Mullen advised those in the military who disagree with policy to "vote with their feet." Hope Mullen and the President give General Conway help with his boots.
I find the whole "sexual" argument against DADT hilarious.
Straight soldiers are already showering, bunking, and fighting alongside gay soldiers. This has been true throughout history.
Put another way -- you're in a firefight, and someone gay is providing covering fire. At that very moment, someone tells you that the person is gay. Would you: a) welcome the cover fire, or b) kick them out of the military?
that makes no sense....all the gay men would be uncomfortable being watched by stra8 chicks...and the str8 men would certainly be eyeing the lesbians...the only solution is for str8 dudes to get over their own insecurities...if the direction of the US national defense is determined b y men's fears of showering, your country is in big big trouble.
When I was at university we had co-ed shower rooms and it worked out fine for all. Our dorm had zero date rapes (others had many) and the boys and girls got along well. There were small dividers for privacy and it was very frowned upon to be creepy. Not every situation is sexual and to think otherwise is kinda retrograde. If you know anything about the living conditions of the military in war zones, sex is not a priority. If you're horny, you go to the last stall and beat off. Gay or straight.
Petroniaskho is clearly from an enlightened country where sexuality is not repressed. I belonged to naturist clubs like Lupin in Los Gatos, and Del Sol of Sacramento. Men and women, boys and girls all shower together. If you think you might pop a woody, you focus on a spot on the wall and you think about 101 Dalmations. But you are there to get clean, not shop for dates. Gay men learn not to look around when they are in 7th grade. Keep your eyes to yourself.
iamavet - being able to shower and bunk with opposite sex. If you spent your life dealing with the fact that you are attracted to the girls in your locker room and shower, you would also be able to handle it. On the other hand, guys are not as likely to be victims. Some women would feel threatened by guys stealing glances. If a guy caught another guy looking, he would punch his lights out after school.
How about EVERYONE showers together and rooms regardless of sex?
That way EVERYONE is uncomfortable EQUALLY? Or is it too much to ask that? That EVERYONE be treated equally (and as such equally uncomfortable) or not at all?

What a great idea -
Gay men should shower with the straight women and gay woman should shower with the straight men.

I was being sarcastic.
However if gay men can shower with str8 men, why can't str8 men shower with str8 women?
Seems like a similar scenario -being able to shower and bunk with people you are sexually attracted to.
