Sleep in your homes and stay out of the woods and these type of attacks will not happen. Why sleep, and camp in the woods where there are bears. A bear can kill a man in seconds. it just doesn't make sense to me. You will not see me walking in the woods knowing there are 1500 lbs bears.

It's unfortunate life was lost. The camper, sow and cubs. Bears have been shot before yet more attacks still occur. What are they accomplishing? Here's my spin on it. It's possible and the likelihood high the bear that actually killed ran away. The surviving camper left the body to raise help. Then a sow and cubs found the scent of what would be their last meal. Sow's with cubs typically don't seek human company. A territorial male bear on the other hand fits the bill in my opinion.

I hiked up on a huge black bear that was eating a campers backpack.

I have seen several black bears while hiking in mountains, but do not make a habit of recording. When I saw the bear eating a campers backpack I decided to bring the bear footage that friends always ask for when I return from NC mountains..

I got a little to close, and I'm lucky the bear did not charge. The bear stomped the ground and I got out of its way and the bear proceeded to get another backpack.
