frances the mute, possibly one of the most incredible and unorthodox albums by the mars volta. de-loused is still my favorite even though i love everything they write. but frances is just an insane album, you really have to listen to it numerous times to wrap your head around it

i guess they felt he was the only one not enjoying the live shows, and that he brought the mood down. a quote from Omar i read somewhere. its a shame, pridgen is a skilled musician, but theodore has a knowledge that comes out in his jams that his succesor simply doesnt have yet. but whatever, right? their band, their call, we're just all along for the ride

He was able to stay in pitch until late '07, what you're seeing in this video is a gold standard volta performance. Jon left just as Cedric hit his prime vocally.

I don't think they ever do the intro live though. They could have, maybe on a bootleg i'm unaware of but as far as I'm concerned, they skip to the breakdown all the time.
