  • David, this is outstanding for me....lots of work in editing...love how the end returns to the non-discernable lights of the carnival ride. Lots of powerful existential angst with you acting the narrator-steady and sure of nothing. Sean

  • what a great way to present this.

  • @MacNutz2 i love david randall curtis..he's a jewel in the youtube crown....huge talent.

  • Thought my comment hadn't been posted so clicked three times, hence below three identical comments, but this track is worth three identitcal comments at LEAST! Gorgoeus. Gorgeous. Gorgeous.

  • Amazing, mary, truly beautiful. Keith Moon in a starry starry night, eh? Wow. Stunning. xxxxxx

  • Amazing, mary, truly beautiful. Keith Moon in a starry starry night, eh? Wow. Stunning.

  • I've been a silent stalker fan since this vid, to this day an all-time most important in my internet discoveries. I'd like to mow your lawn or wax your car one of these days if that wouldn't be too creepy.

  • I'm Joshuhhh--your art is sadistically hilarious and seriously brilliant! I think I may have written that poem before I got amnesia :-P but copywrites are for corporeality lol.... the word of the minute is transpersonal~

  • Hahaha!! Yeah, man. I dig DRC. Great guy. I can't hang with you poets, but I can admire. And he does have a mesmerizing voice.

  • Oh my! How in god's name did I miss this? And since when did MGD come in a light version? Damn, David, this is such a tremendously cool production. Good poetry, well integrated with the audio-visuals.

"This is what we'll warn our children to avoid"... and that "final guilty smile."

    I love all of it.

  • @sonofwalt what is MGD?

  • @marycigarettes lol, Miller Genuine Draft.

  • @sonofwalt hahaha...please forgive my ignorance...mine is gin and tonic.

  • @marycigarettes me LOVES G & T! :)

  • @sonofwalt isn't it just the best?!...icey cold..crisp and fragrant...it is the supreme lubricant for good satisfying social intercourse

  • @marycigarettes Agreed!

  • needed uplifting this morning..so, here I am :)

  • What a truly majestic performance from start to finish, awesomely artistic.

  • Remember the first time you heard Led Zep's first album ? Or 'waiting for my Man' by Velvet Underground ?....That is the sense of elation I got the first time I heard Mary Cigarettes. You continue to elate with everything you do. Rock n Roll Angel don't come close. GENIUS !

  • Very good...marvellous

  • Nice nice nice nice nice nice on ice !!! Gimme some vodka and let me drink this poetry!

  • here for my daily nicotine intake and I can face the day.

  • I keep coming back to this piece, and it never ceases to amaze me, that combination, that sound. You have really created something here that is enduring.

  • A wonderful collaboration between the two of you, my good friends, and an excellent balance of styles to create a new thing delivered up from you both. An excellent piece in which one compliments the other nicely, rather like a cumulative chain reaction coming to new fruition. Great work, my friends.

  • thanks michael....for the longest time i've wanted to put a musical frame around this amazing poem of davids......i believe it was through david that my own on running conversation with your good self began!...so i have a lot to thank david for.....so glad you like it.

  • Comme je l'ai dit jamais de déception!! Et Mr.Curtis ...... bien vous avez une nouvelle groupie! Bravo! A vous deux!!

    Emilie

  • Hi Mary,

Thanks for reminding me of this poem and what a fine poet David is. He writes with irony and wit and brings his poetry to life with his amazing laid-back delivery. In addition, he goes out of his way to promote and encourage other poets and musicians on u-tube, which I think is cool.

  • Of course, your setting for the poem is superb; the fair ground with its thrills and sense of danger is a great metaphor, as is the howling medium.

I hope your trip NYC brings good memories,

    Regards,

    Peter

  • hi peter..i'm having a great time, though feeling very tired now.....so glad you got the fairground metaphor...thats exactly what i was trying to evoke .......thanks for taking the time to write.

  • I absolutely fuckin' love this. And you really are a Rock n Roll angel because this is of another world

  • hey baby!

  • how's things? found a piccy of Leee on the Ian Hunter website forum

  • i'm exhausted tim...keep forgetting to eat.....my favourite thing is the village vanguard ...an old jazz basement thats been there for 70 years....and last night i saw jose feliciano backed by the les paul trio at the eridium jazz club beforeheading off to the vanguard

  • Forgetting to eat is something I never do (sadly). Believe It or not I'm painting my hallway listening to Silverlake and getting in some great brush strokes to ' I'm not paranoid'...So your inspiration works in mysterious ways :) Have fun my friend x

  • i bet you have a great stroke,luv!

  • thanks shannon....he is great isn't he?!....i love his style.

  • Marycigarettes dear, you know how much I enjoy your work. What a fantastic collaboration choice. I'm at a loss for words. Wonderful.

  • so beautifully worded..

    a reflection of youth i guess :)

    loved the entire compilation.

  • very well done....you complement each other...

  • Excellent poem and excellent production!

  • This is incredible..

    love the Leonard Cohen mention..

love the whole feel of this...

    'careless innocence"..says it best

    faved

    Robby

  • Robby63: Thank you... but I'm not sure what you mean by the "Cohen mention" - ? --- I adore Cohen, now I am hoping I did not steal one of his lines for this poem without realizing it... :P

  • it was me david..i put cohen in the tags, simply cause i figured cohens audience would like your words.

  • Don't worry, David..I was just referring to the Leonard Cohen mention over in the sidebar..and I did think this piece had a lot of Cohen's flavor..especially with the music as a backdrop..:)

  • thats fantastic robby...cohen uses keyboards and all the drum machine thing really well....thanks!

  • oh David, thanks for sharing this. I actually was brought to tears. what a gorgeous piece of work. Wonderful. Broad strokes painted over our better judgment? Wow....wonderful stuff

  • Brilliant collaboration between two brilliant minds! =)

  • TheRavenOfPoe: Well, ONE brilliant mind... and then MINE :p

    (Thanks for the comment ;)

  • Hey Julia(roadbiketraveller)

(i should have subbed you but i tend to forget the details on my journey, please forgive me but i've caught up to you now...somewhat breathless!)

Catch your breath n remember this...

If it weren't for a Van Gogh there'd be no Inspiration

for the likes of DRC and Mary...

    or me or you...

Inspiration and Life goes on and on.... : )))

  • Mary,

    I was there,

can't comment totally sensibly right now,

    Just got back,

    found solace in this,

is there really no meaning ?,

    actually, there has to be,

Yup, - there is,- 'cos if there is not - there is no point.

    .x.

  • Sweet this is one of DRC's I hadn't seen. Excellent choice for a DRC/MC Blend...

Gonna playlist this one I think. :-)

    Well done.

  • I never knew you and DRC had done a collab, this was incredible, I found this on yout FaceBook page!! Fiv'd & Fav'd!!

  • glad you like it...i dont actually have a facebook page...i sweet guy in canada did that page for me.

  • Vision: Thank you very much. Mary will disagree, but he is the one that owns and did all the hard work on this video. One of the major highlights of my life is his deciding to do a video with one of my poems in it... it is a dream come true...

  • stream of consciousness, is that what it's all about? :D

  • i dunno...is what about ,what about?

i thought it was about the madness of youth and the way we reflect on it years later...hope you liked it anyway.

  • is that what life is all about..That's what I meant. Life being all about stream of consciousness is an interesting take on life.

  • youre gonna have to ask the poet himself i b guess...but i think its simply about wild youth and how we reflect on it when we get old.

  • whhhoaaa...well...i´ve thoroughly enjoyed it...

okay, favorited because i want DRC to keep this one up for the next 6 months..lol

you crack me up, YOU BRAT!

  • he calls me a brat too!..its his favourite term of endearment

  • God you look good in feathers!

Love the poem, the stuff you wrote on the side...

    Especially the music!!

Thank you Love, another in my faves... ; )))

    *****

  • Totally seriously greate!

  • Way cool man !!!

    5*****

  • This is seriously cool !

  • I have often doubted so,

    often doubted.

As voices revolve and enlighten this portal,

    evolve, trangressing the drowning commercials

sourced from the wider slippage of marketeers thunderings and lightenings

Can these artists really rise above the mediocrity of the spoon fed oblivions.

    I have often doubted, so.

    You both remain above.

    I doubt no more.

  • LloysHywelBevan: That is such a nice comment. Thank you. To me, this is really Mary's video (he did all the hard work) -- I am honored by your comment and by the fact that Mary did this video.

  • hipnotic!! congrats to you both ;)

  • K^^L crazy good !

  • I have just gotta say Mary and David...I'm suffering from a nasty bout of Flu at the moment, but this is wonderful...thank's for the Cheer Up...Billy...

  • Good choice in beer. 5 stars.

  • A video to be watched many times...and listened to many times..deep, avant-garde with lots of informations from your souls...

    I will return...many times

Thank you for all you are creating, MaryCigs

  • thank you brazil lady!!!

  • Wonderful! As a fan of both artists here this is fantastic. Great stuff.

    :o)

  • I certainly do. It's a hypnotic mixture that I will re-visit.

  • There is so much I love about this collaboration, however my words won't do it justice so I shall merely say thanks...

    X

  • there is! i hummed and hahhed about doing this for over a year...this last while i couldnt move forward until i'd pulled my finger out and framed what i told david i'd do all those moons ago...he's amazing don't you think?!

  • This is such an incredible meeting of two visionary minds. The poem alone stirs memories of my own that both thrill and haunt me at the same time. Coupled with the perfect music and dreamy visual I find myself left with a yearning to return to those days when I could afford to be so wreckless (or at least I thought I could afford to at the time). We are the lucky ones and I consider myself lucky to have found you guys. Bravo... I am astounded once again.

  • DRC is a poet of our time and you are a music maker of our time and together you are timeless!

    p.s. love "created thusly" :-) 5* Fav.

  • PoetLina: What a kind comment--but Mary is far cooler than I could ever hope to be! I think YOU are the poet of our time!

  • yes! 'thusly is good' a caught a friend of mine using the word when he was being terse ,and i HAD to hijack it..i've been saying 'thusly' at every given opportunity.....thanks for kind encouragement, lina.

  • we're grateful to have you for the audience...it's nothing without a switched on audience.

  • marycigarettes: MoC: totally alone and ontop of the competition. The originality of this post will live the test of time...As others have said...the editing is exceptional with quality and creativity. marycigarettes. you have given the viewer more than most others could dream of. • AHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhsigh..............................................................................................insight wed to insight. Poetry begs(requires/demands) thought, deep thinking, pondering, wondering, relating. Highly enjoyed my journey here---outstanding move mary on opportunity and creativity that reached out and grabbed you--love those moments of GRAB--your individual art blesses one another many fold, highly complimentary!wow!...XosLaurieLee

    ;-);-);-)

  • cheers laurie.......and youre poetry in motion when you slide around on your guitar and sing.

  • Mary, thanks once again for giving me "something to look forward to coming down the line". Great insight here into the quashing of individualism, the loss of childhood innocence, and the dumbing down of the majority of society who blindly go along with it. Is it from government, laziness, or just plain in-bred stupidity? I dunno, but it's happening.

  • Big surprise Dave. You`re a great talented man,you made something specila in this beautiful collabs

  • This is one of my favorite poems by David. Your video is a vibrant re-articulation that both stays true to the poem and pulls it towards new enhancement. So very fineAnd I must now rethink boas, as you make them look soooo the necessary accessory.

  • This is absolutely FANTASTIC. A brilliant collaboration. Thanks to both of you! Stars and hugs..Jan and Susan ♥

  • Wow! Superb collab! Sensational video and atmosphere created! Brilliance by both parties! Excellent soudtrack Mary! Fuckin' luv ya man! So glad your pumpin' out all this work! Cheers baby!

  • nice production, chaps.

  • This is a stunning collaborative piece, thank you for uplaod. andrewnorris1 is right; videos like this are what makes YouTube a place worth returning to over and over. Quirky, atmospheric and synthesizing film, visuals, music and poetry. An aesthetic somewhere between pop art (cultural references) and impressionism (movement, light, etc). Once again, thank-you.

  • This is the kind of video that makes youtube such a fantastic outlet for so much creativity that before struggled to find an audience. Before I saw this I would have doubted such a combination compatible, it is great to have ones preconceptions challenged and thrown out the window. This is just so brilliant. Your individual characters shine out, well done I am running out of superlatives. 5* and Fav

  • the music has a fabulous groove to It. How I'd love to be a fly on the wall of that music room buzzing round that crystal chandelier :)

Thank you both for slowing me down long enuf to realize that. XX
  • Bobbie, and not only let those feelings run freely into our older age, but not let them be taken away from our children before they even have them.

  • I'm gathering my thoughts

playing chicken with my own impressionistic feelings while listening to this gorgeous mix of David and Mary

  • The beauty of YouTube is that it makes this sort of creative venture possible. This is where the value lies, not in the regurgitation of mainstream output. Fantastic thrill, watching two people I have got to know here magically come together!

  • yes yes! it feels very special like finding treasure

  • ... treasure freely shared. Therein lies the magic!

  • bobbie!!!!

  • i agree andrew....suddenly poets have their own platform thanks to youtube......and i'm amazed how many of them their are......thanks for taking time to write and lets us know you like it

  • brilliantly one! Wow.

  • I absolutely love this. I found David through you and this works so well. I do not have the vocabulary to intellectualise my thoughts as you two do but this is stunningly beautiful

  • hi tim.....you DO have the vocabulary and communicate really well.......so glad you like it.
