  • anyone who speaks negatively on this page is just projecting their own failures, IAN was the best of all time he suffered epileptic seizures while on stage he suffered alot for his mistakes and we love him for that R.I.P. IAN

  • I'm gonna go and get one of their shirts, they have this one which is like a silhouette of Mickeys head and it's amazing lolollllllllll.

  • so you say.....

  • My 2 favourit bands are Black Sabbath and Joy Division. And honestly this live vid sounds very much like Black Sabbath in their early gigs. Fucking awesome

  • we'll share a drink and step outside........

  • Génial... dommage qu'elle soit incomplète !

  • The best...

    From Argentina.

  • This is incredible.. but Ian starts sucking at 2:27

  • RENATO RUSSO

  • best artist of all time´` R. I.P, Ian Curtis. never be exceeded

  • why cant bernard play that well in studio?

  • holy shit...WHY THIS SONG ISN'T COMPLETE :'(

  • @Thesagga it is a complete song ??

  • @holleyoake123 nope

  • @Thesagga why do i have the full virsion on my ipod then ???

  • @holleyoake123 put it on youtube then or tell us which concert it is

  • love the way he dance

  • I love watching Ian up close....

  • the strain's too much can't take much more

    waiting for me this time

    hoping for something else

  • i have a such feeling like it's nirvana in background playing this song with ian on vox... like cobain guitar, like grohl drums

  • @nik50990 to me anyway, i find Ian Curtis as a British Kurt Cobain

  • kafkaesque, thats how i like to describe it, gloomy, alienated, miserable but still...INCREDIBLE. Best Joy Division song

  • @jonterranova25 oh, you're french..

  • @jonterranova25 no i'm from carlisle

  • Great sounding and Ian voice is full of suffering.

  • its the musicians tooo

  • Unknown place ? ;-) GREATEST CITY ON EARTH;EINDHOVEN , EFFENAAR.

  • i can't fucking deal with this. any song sung by ian, and played by the band fucking rips my soul out to be exposed to this heart wrenching music. it's brilliant. i don't know how to express myself more than i can

  • you've said it all my friend.

  • Can't believe they went from this, to a pure queer New order sound (no means to disrespect gay people at all, just dont know how else to describe it)

  • @iguisard Listen to Movement if you haven't already. It is my favorite New Order album and maintained something close to their Joy Division sound. I detest them steering away from this directions as well.

  • @punisher6574 My friend they had to change, his death????

  • Amazing, brings to mind those slaughtered drug dealers in Mexico. These guys really were pressured by the London "nick" I bet.

  • Could be wrong but it looks like footage from Amsterdam Paradiso show on January 11, 1980.

  • very fun at 1min with dancing curtis!

  • The rest, that is supposed to come is missing !...you're a tease...you're a ball bag ! How can you do this to us! Perfect performance though, shall not be forgotten, as little as i say !

  • FrxBass, Please tell me that courtney love reference was a misprint although she was "present" in the nineties.

  • EXCELENTTTTT

  • to sem poslušal kosem bil star 17 let

  • pretty much an untouchable band, live or otherwise

  • @grandpaconway Maybe not to you dumbass, but to me, it means alot. RIP Ian

  • @YesterdaysBlur Ok. Me too...who are you responding too?

  • The light just under Ian's face.... best effect ever

  • shivers,,,fuck this is good...playing this at 70 decibel right now :-)

  • Just like Cobain too you could feel how passionate they were, and serious.. you know, when you consider suicide in your musical prime/fame, things in your head arent working well and when they perform, I just feel like he feels the need ''To let it all out''. Personally, I love and fit really well charismatic singers; such as Ian Curtis, Shannon Hoon, Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, EARLY-MID Billy Corgan...many more.. they were such passionate singers/band I miss the 90's so bad

  • @FrxBass well well, i mean let's not overgloryfy i think. The music this band made has for me the upper hand on the emotional side, although this varyies for thesongs, this one for example ian really did some great songwriting and a great performance. But i mean loads of people are fucked up in the head and concider suicide everyday, they are often artists but also all other kinds of geniouses. i just think taking them as an idol is overpowering

  • There iz Brian Eno...then joy division...then?

  • im getting ian curtis face on my arm.. this will complete my sleeve<3

    RIP IAN

    im never alone anymore:)<3

  • @YesterdaysBlur Nah, an ink image of something menas nothing

  • @Grandpaconway Huh?

  • @YesterdaysBlur Haha seriously? Wow, Ian Curtis was a visionary but you're actually getting a permanent tattoo of his face on your arm? Why do people thumbs this up?

  • @slangshotstudios would u rather he get a tat of a ...tiger or... a dragon or... some dumb buddist symbol..or...his MOM.u is... CUNT.

  • @alifelesscritic God, you're retarded. Both you and the person getting the ridiculous tattoo of Ian Curtis. I'll leave it at that.

  • @YesterdaysBlur That is awesome, please post a video of it <3

  • Best and most real video on YouTube

  • Ian was just the perfect performer. He felt every word AND he knew how to dance like a mofo. Love that man. RIP

  • Perfect and unsurpassable...

  • i think i would sell my soul to the Devil to have been there for this!

  • musice to die for....lierally!!!

  • speachless

  • unknown pl...easures

  • 3 people have cocks for eyes (and ears)

  • it sounds a lot like the version from "still". can anyone confirm it?

  • a dark disturbing experience

  • Simply ELECTRIFYING!!

  • My spine is chilling. Heartbreaking.

  • I invey the person who filmed this.

  • ultimate passion for crying out loud pain...beautiful

  • It fucking gets to you!

  • It's recorded at their concert in Eindhoven, Netherlands at 18th January 1980.

  • Beautiful

  • Wow, he changes the words.. I've walked on water, run through fire, can't seem to 'take' it anymore.. That sounds so sinister..

  • Awesome stuff! I think this was filmed at Eindhoven in January 1980.

  • anyone else assosiate joydivision to winter? The death of all things

  • @Neighborhoodbordness The repetitious end.

  • @Neighborhoodbordness yeah, in particular one winter when i was in university and i had a really bad time as winter came on...listened to JD non stop as i drove around getting ready to commit suicide...thankfully i didn't succeed!

  • @DougglesMagnificent I also hate winter as I feel depression creep in during those times. Thats good that you did not succeed as life is too precious to give up. I guess Ian didn't understand that.....

  • @DougglesMagnificent you failed at suicide? loser, go hang yourself.

  • @batterycock didn't even try, dumbass! oooh look at controversial you lolz

  • This is the Paridiso Club Amsterdam in early '79 where I and several people saw HIM disappear on stage that night. And the voice rang out. Never got over this performance

  • a dark disturbing viewing experience

  • epik song

  • Joy Division live are the heaviest metal

  • The first song I listened to in 2011 :'D

  • 0:55

  • 3 people accidentally pressed the dislike button.

  • Best live version I have ever heard of this song. Too bad it's incomplete. I never get tired of watching it.

  • played this masterpiece 10000 times, but that bloody counter doesn't add up!

  • OMF god EPIC

  • i love this song

  • Got to be the best Joy Division track . Great to see a live version .

  • fuck yeah Joy Division

  • no unknow place, but effenaar in eindhoven (netherlands), filmed by dick verdult.

  • @sudhish86 kind of understand what you mean but perhaps you could sum up what you mean in more detail?? think you left a few ppl hanging..

  • "a loaded gun won't set you free...so they say..."

  • I love when he screams.. it's so real, I don't know how else to describe it

  • R.I.P.

  • The quintessential Joy Division track. The sheer lugubriosity of the bass guitar blows me into another world.

  • @nashark1, that and " a change of scene. a change of style, with no regret" ( with his lyrical tone) sums up how he feels about people.

  • My favorite youtube clip! I watch this when I need food for the soul!

  • @chrisridenhour I am glad i have found them - greatest music i've ever heard and Ian's voice - I LOVE YOU, IAN

  • Sure, every time I hear this song I want to kill myself, but it's so damn good...

  • i remember my old band covered this song. and every time that epic guitar part kicked at the start i couldnt help but smile cause it was so awsome. no other song has done that to me so much

  • its frome" here are the young men" video, i think it's in Holland

  • amazing live version!!!

  • No age song. Intense, epic, dramatic.

  • i really dont like live albums but if u want to hear joy division the way they were meant to b heard u gotta listen to their live stuff. this vid gives me chills most underrated band in history.

  • damn they were so fucking heavy live!!!

  • Wow, haunting performance, beautiful. I love how Ian disappears into the shadows while dancing madly. Thanks for the upload.

  • ....bloody intense,,,it'll never fade

  • hard to beleive this is from the 70's. It would sound so fresh if it was released today.. and destroying all the crap in the charts aswell

  • There is nothing being sung by anyone today that even remotely approaches the visceralness of this song.

  • Truly influential music. It's kind of sad being one of the few people in the South that listens to this stuff.

  • @punisher6574 im from the south

  • @punisher6574 im from the south

  • @harodirt77 Awesome. Like I said though, hard finding people here that do.

  • most underrated singer, if only control was released earlier than joy division would be acknowledged early

  • I took the blame - he means it.

  • best version of this song. a shame i can't find this live version on album somewhere...

  • @boomhauwer2 This gig is on several bootlegs, check the Joy Division Central site page for the gig - joydiv (dot) org (forward slash) c180180 (dot) htm

  • Awesome.

  • Go Ian go !!!! Epic group, epic song !!!

  • Great music, really wish Hannett hadn't diluted the band's power so much on record.

  • @AndPlus

I agree. I believe he really took away most from Unknown Pleasures. It would be like him producing a Dead Kennedys record (no pun meant) and removing all of the physical roar in favor of atmosphere (again no pun meant). Though he did master the shit out of Closer. Props to that.

  • @pandoraglory Snap I agree once again! Yeah his production sound did actually suit the Closer songs perfectly.

  • Hmm, the most powerful performance ever, diferent colours diferent shades...

  • Shadowplay, Transmission, New Dawn Fades, Digital, Love will tear us apart, shes lost control, Dead souls, Candidate, 24 hours, These days.

The list goes on, you wil have to go along way to find a bad JD song

  • Ian is God

  • Best songs of all time?

  • @81trillo81 eh, maybe. Really close for sure

  • Best video ever!

  • this is the best song ever so moody and dark ian you were a genius and music isnt quite the same without you !!!!!!!!

  • Best ever

  • my favourite JD song

  • grazie Ian

  • cant believe it but this song is so much better live... maybe its the faster pace

  • so fucking good!!!

  • Thank you Ian

  • epic no __ legendary¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • a dark dangerous disturbing performance

  • this is rarity and the best song ever written.....long live to joy division...they are truly gods

  • Reprise

  • damn, i wish i could of seen them live. i have a cover of this song uploaded to my channel. i'd really appreciate some feedback, thanks

  • he looks so godly like...like a ghost....what an amazing performance! i wish i was there for it!!! RIP Ian!!!!

  • Sumner et Hook ... j'adore

  • Too bad it goes dark when he starts dancing in the beginning. I would have loved to see that.

  • FUCKING EPIC!

  • one time joy d played in belgium borroughs was there played some films in another part of the arts building, concerts paitings and cinema all going on same time, ian got there and asked for a book thinking now im famous maybe he will give me one for free, he loved william borroughs books, borroughs replied: fuck off kid... ian left all red while the others laughed, seems like bourroughs didnt knew joy division...

  • I love ian curtis i fucking love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Deep freaking meaningful lyrics

that you dont even have a word to

describe because his lyrics are too

    unique! <33

  • What Ilike so much of Joy division is the roughness of the music. It adds someting edgy to the songs and then Curtis' voice. Quite special...

  • greatest band ever in my opinion

  • Powerfull performance!

  • music has never been the same... <3

  • gotta love joy division in this light.

  • Cuts like a sharp knife....but I'm addicted to this song like a junkie....JD is my drug of choice!!!

  • the lighting is so incredibly creepy.

  • im a lil disappointed in all the live versions of this song, the "it was me.." refrain at the end he performs lower than the album version..otherwise perfection

  • effenaar club, eindhoven 18.1.80 of couse...

    see ebay : 220506181570

    cheers,mickey

  • Best song, best clip... Forever...

  • Check out Fall of the Fortress. definitely influenced by JD.

  • rarely, am i ever at a loss for words but this.... this is just.... Wow, fucking wow

  • no doubt one of the best rock songs ever recorded, If I ever met someone that didnt like JD or had ever heard of them...this is the song I would make them listen to, if they didnt like it, they have no business listening to music.

  • I COULD'NT AGREE MORE WITH THAT...

gusebumps..( is that the word ?)

  • @Connor796 - Agreed. I didn't like Joy Division the first time I heard them. It took this song to make me start to appreciate them.

  • @Connor796 Are you Tony Wilson in disguise?

I actually re roofed Factory records roof and met Tony, scruffy bastard, but a lovely, charming short arse.

    A legend,missed.
