what's your opinion about the olympus E510 ? are u pleaced with this model ? it's better like for exemple : canon 1000d ? it's great to start in do photos ?or save monny abd buy the canon 1000d ?
The 510 is a nice camera, remember with Olympus you are using a FourThirds format, this allows for smaller bodies, and also creates a factor of x2 for any lens (50mm=100mm) now the 510 has been replaced with the 520, and also there's the 620, more compact, back-lit keys, swivel backscreen. Internal stabilization is great, and Zuiko makes amazing sharp lenses, even the kit lenses. Go to camera stores and try Canon and Olympus and see what feels best. =)
Zuiko12-60mm SWD, I also own the Zuiko 50-200mm, along with a 1.4x EC-14 teleconverter. It keeps me balanced, all I lack is a macro lens, but then I haven't had the eye or subjects for using one.
Yes a lot, larger glass, better in low light, better elements and extremely sharp images, and uses the SWD motors for compatible bodies to have very fast focusing, and weather sealed.
14-25 is one of their SuperHighGrade lenses, its f2.0 is fixed throughout the zoom range, where the 12-60mm at its widest is 2.8, and as you zoom closes to 4.0 minimum.
Nope, would be nice if they had a separate usb port on the grip itself. But if you have a way of using the E-system cameras tethered to a laptop please toss me info on how, I've not had any luck. and I mean without grip.
ah yeah I know of Olympus S2, but don't want to buy it for just that one feature. I'm still watching the many stand alone programs for use with lightroom to cover Oly bodies for mac, there are a few for windows, but my photo-work is on my travel macbook pro.
My tripod I picked up for $50, thats with shipping, on ebay from Amvona, they no longer auction there, they have a website. Its model: AT-858-BL. it came with a head and tripod case from the auction. I like it a lot, really solid and stable, I have since added an Manfrotto 486RC2 ballhead.
I bought this grip for my 510 too. I can't for the life of me figure out what the "beep" mode is. That tiny button on the front that you use to program the remote control also seems to have some other "beep" mode. The instructions are so poorly translated, I can't decipher the meaning of this button. Any ideas?
i have the e-520 and yes, the e51r works with it and functions great. my copy actually was defective (battery drained really fast even when set to off position), but ownuser's customer service is top notch. i mailed the grip in, they fixed it and sent it back, now it works just fine and i can really enjoy it!
Btw, the E-510 has 0, 2 and 12 sec timer. its not only 0-2 sec ;)
I think there are 2 big issues with this grip. The first one, is not so band and cand be overseen since Olympus hasn't build a cable plugin for a Grip in the battery hole, is that you have to attach that USB to the camera, which won't let you reach the ISO button propperly.
The other one, which I find more anoying, is that batterys run out(quickly)when in the grip -while camera is off-. (Due to having AA mode switched on?dunno)
My mention of the 0-2 seconds is for the wireless remote by Olympus. Yes for self timer its up to 12, but my mentioning was for the remote.
The ISO can still be easily handled just twist your thumb more so its flat to the usb plug. or just use the OK and wheel it.
As for the batteries this seems odd to me, are you leaving the grip turned on? on the right side it says (on, off, then the remote icon)with mine off and in bag for a month now I pulled out out and still have half my battery power.
make sure you keep your grip set to the AA position, and that you turn it off when you're finished. if the battery drains even faster than that, you might want to contact ownuser about a possible defect.
hmm depends on your location, and you mean 12 business days? mine came within weeks and also direct from their site, I also had direct email communication with them. If you are worried try emailing them and tell them your location and date of purchase, I went through paypal and was contacted when it shipped.
Hmm I'd poke them some more, I always got replies in a day or 2, it takes a few business days to get things set then a day to get it shipped out, then depending on the handling, thats why some things can take up to three weeks. Just keep poking them, sure things are ok.
Thanks! Up until this last year, my work was with kit lenses, I still used my old MK1 kits from the E500. this year I upgraded to the ZD 50-200mm (non SWD) and the ZD 12-60mm SWD. It is planned in my coming amateur videos on accessories and next steps to look to. For now, I'm cramming college studies. So keep an eye open here. Don't worry about new glass yet, Olympus has amazing kit lenses and some of the sharpest.
i am definitely enjoying my 14-42mm kit lens. the week after i ordered my kit the 2 lens kit came out, pissed me off pretty bad! i'll probably get that 40-150 as i also want a good inexpensive telephoto right now. before i get any high grade lenses though i want to look into getting a good tripod and i think i'll get the battery grip too, i found a great price on it.
Keep in mind weight also, lighter is more when it comes to camera equipment, make sure you study the uses and needs. That grip wont improve any thing but hand comfort for longer periods of portrait angles and a boost in battery power. you could get a spare battery keep it charged and with your gear if power is needed, save some money and get some circular polarizers, if you find you need the vertical grip in your use go for it. skip the 40-150, grab the 70-300, grab a tripod and ball head!
Wel - The batterigrip has arrived and boy am i glad i made this decision. The E510 feels like a brand new much better camera. Ok, the Usb lead sticks out a bit but it is right there where it does not matter much.
Thanks for the review.
I can only say like you - It is a great buy !
And the extra included items like the ext. battery compartment and the remote just makes this inventment worthwile.
It does at first, its like its in the way, but don't think there is any real way around it, You just get use to rotating your hand up more to regain access to the controls, it sticks out a Centimeter from the back.
With this battery grip, do you notice any speed improvement (eg: Auto Focus swd lens) compare to original battery?
vlsion09 2 years ago
@vlsion09 Don't think so, it works through the USB port as the 510/520 has no dedicated grip, works same as the on camera shutter button.

If you plug into the usb port does that mean you can't use it with tethered shooting to a laptop with studio 2.

You tried Olympus "studio 2" software ?
That is supposed to facilitate tethering.

Nice video.
Just a few questions though. Does the new grip work with the e-520? and if so, can you auto focus with the shutter buttons on the grip?
thanks

Hi EASala
I actually have the same problem as you have with my grip. If i leave it in the bag for like 14 days both batteries are totally depleted.
Have you found a solution ?
