Dear TheLordofwar91, I don't usually do this but your post in the light of this woman's unnecessary suffering at the hands of unfathomably selfish insurance executives has left me little choice. You're a fool, and your assertion that we just rely on God to take care of us and not actually take any action to make changes to make sure everyone in this country, and not just people who have money to burn by giving it to insurance companies, is simply absurd. I pray someday you'll actually feel love
She said, "Blue Cross/Blue Shield has power over life and death...". I hope no one thinks the government would do better! Yes, clearly changes are needed so people like this poor woman aren't dumped off their insurance when they desperately need it. But Obamacare will make things worse, not better.
First off she goes to church and believes in God so she shouldn't be scared for her life. and she should know God will take her to see him when he chooses to. second, if she prays and believes in him he will provide (which im assuming she did because she is STILL ALIVE! God provided for her) third, insurance companies should not be able to drop you just like that. that is something we should work on. however he need to remember insurance companies don't make a lot of money. Only about 4% profit.
as bad as this sounds people do die. with or with out health care. and if you are a honest hard worker and aren't lazy you should be fine. or if you believe and honor God he will provide. however, if you are lazy and dont work,or dont work hard you will die. and if you don't have health care that is your own fault. you need to work harder and STOP BLOGGING IN YOUR MOMS BASEMENT ALL DAY ABOUT HOW STUPID CONSERVATIVES ARE! get off your fat lazy ass and get a job! 'cause im sure not paying for you
as i watch this tears are streaming down my face. my god, can you imagine what this poor woman went thru. can you imagine being told you have breast cancer, and your insurance company dropping you a week before surgery. what words can i say? how to define my anger?
My husband is going through rescession with BCBS. One week after his approved surgery he laid helpless in bed wrapped bandages and while making a casual call to BCBS an agent told me that the insurance policy was rescended (cancelled). I had never heard that word before. She was rude and condescending to me, like she had scored a hit. It is immoral what insurance companies and LOBBISTS are doing to us regular people.
The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous,
We are oft to blame in this, Tis too much proved that with devotion's visage And pious action we do sugar o'er The devil himself.
Barbara Wagner !!!, obamanites We will never let such tyranny in America this lady and her story and government run healthcare in Oregon speak volumes to the evils you wish to impose on the people, they refused her cancer treatment and offered to pay for her assisted suicide don't believe it read about it on abc@com.
Death panels this is what it will come to politicians in million dollar houses offering Barbara Wagner !!! assisted suicide over proper treatment so they can be rich. Do you think they would have denied the governor of Oregon the same treatment ? 41!! 41!!
Alfrunk, have you listened to this testimony? Acne is an inflammatory condition. It'd be appropriate to make a note that chronic inflammatory condition may, if untreated, lead to a malignancy. The insurance company used that generic statement to deny treatment for a type of breast cancer which has a well understood genetic cause. It's aggressive, that's all in the textbooks. Maybe if there was a public option that need would have been met
alfrunk, I do not love hearing from the economically illiterate right, who fail to understand this simple fact. It was the economic policies you promoted which led to the current recession! Some of us are trying to help the people your policies hurt. You are simply trying to tell them "it wasn't me! A big boy did it and ran away"
repukeslie7, Insurance companies are not the villains because they pay their CEO's to much? If I'm aiming for a 4% profit margin, as in dividends to my shareholders. If I score high then I can cream off the rest for myself. The more claims I can deny the more money for me. The insurance company is the villain because they collude to earn that extra profit.
You do have health care in the US. It's how you ration it that's at issue. As it stands access to health care in the US is rationed solely by the effect on the profitability of the policy for the insurance company. Introducing a public option means they have to change their business model to compete on access. You want to get treatment quicker, take out a policy. You want to wait go public.
Insurance companies spread lies that the legislation would include "Death Panels." The real "Death Panels" are at Insurance companies holding private policies (that are paid up!) where their clients have a catastrophic illness and they try (as they did with Robin) to "get rid of" them.
"Getting rid of them" means certain death. That's not a death panel but a hit squad.
How about this analogy, imagine you are in a capitalist country which prides profit above all else. Now imagine companies getting more profit for denying healthcare to it's customers.
Now imagine health insurance and employment aren't tied together (the way they wouldn't be in a truly capitalist society). And imagine because of the millions of people who don't have insurance there is a huge profit motive for an entrepreneur to provide an affordable insurance plan to said millions. And imagine other entrepreneurs following his example do the same. Now imagine there are thousands of options for people to choose exactly the kind of care they want. Sadly, this is an analogy.
Kinda like how your beloved government is advising postponement of mammograms until age 50? What a great entity to have in charge of health care, huh you parasitic slackass??
The best part is when government makes a mistake it corrects itself through public backlash.
When companies fuck up they get rewarded for it.
So yeah I trust the government over corporations. I respect your insult though for it shows that you're on the wrong side of history due to your hate.
Wow your lack of comprehension is astounding. Who rewards the companies that fuck up? GOVERNMENT. Where did the fuck up companies get their bailouts? God I hate having to explain the obvious to simple minded goofs like you. And that's not hate it's truth, regardless of how you feel about it. Effeminate weirdo.
@Alfrunk Canada's banks are healthier than ours because they're regulated.
It's not my fault that government is beholdened to private interests. Take money out of politics and the system will fix itself but it's quite stupid to assume all government is evil when only ours needs fixing.
Just posting to say: I live in Canada, where we have UHC, and we're all laughing at the US right now. Seriously. Anything you've heard about us waiting months for cancer treatment is a lie. If we need serious treatment, we get it within days. If you have a sniffle, you wait.
It's just triage. Triage and UHC is good enough for the US Military and Iraq. Why isn't it good enough for the American people?
Wow another misguided goofball canadian trying to tell everyone how to live. Your facts are so off it's not even worth debating. "Canada: Land of the not quite right."
You should try leaving the country once in a while, I find it offensive that you believe that socialised healthcare consists of death panels that deny people coverage. My goverment's healthcare system is not run on the premises of profit so why would they deny people healthcare?
I know facts may not be your strong suit, but if you bothered to read the bill you would see that they WILL ration care. Try informing yourself, you may not embarrass yourself as much.
and I find it offensive that we have a president who suggested our doctors would put the dollar in front of a patients care..
Now what?
The simple truth is NO PLAN is perfect but our government in this country has a long track record of failure after failure when it comes to social programs.
All I want is for everyone to stop lying. Insurance companies, for their faults, are not the villain here...they operate on a less than 4% profit margin.....the government operates in a deficit....
Insurance companies, for their faults, are not the villain here...they operate on a less than 4% profit margin.....the government operates in a deficit....
Their profit margins would be higher if they didn't pay their CEOs $1.6 BILLION (no typo there.) That is what United Healthcare's Bill McGuire made in 1 year. Why should insurance companies be making one dime off the backs of people's misery and deaths? Get rid of them They are the real death panels.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Acne? Why don't you tell the truth Robin?
The REAL reason your policy was cancelled....why do both you and our president LIE about why it was cancelled?
It was cancelled because YOU LIED on your application, not about acne but because you conveniently failed to tell the insurance company you had a pre-existing HEART CONDITION!
ahaahah you idiots talk about nonexistent death panels and wave your hands and yell "free market" when cases of insurance death panels come up. have you any shame?
Public opinion not going your way? Time to haul out the cancer kids and parade them in public. Not going to work this time, this is sick and pathetic, NO OBAMACARE!
This is sad about what is happened to this woman. But you know it's so funny how people try to interpret what is going on which the new health plan. If it will help out from this kind of stuff happening then it should be passed. The insurance companies don't care about us they just want the insurance premiums. They just don't give a $h!t!!!! PASS THE BILL!!!!!!!!!!!
what prevents this kind of thing from happening more often is that there are other insurance companies out there competing with blue cross and blue shield such that if they screw you over, you can go somewhere else. that gives them incentive not to screw you over (or at least not to screw too many people over too badly). more competition is better. remove the federal rules that prohibit interstate insurance so someone can pick an insurance company from any state in the union.
health insurance companies are evil and always trying to scam people out of their money. that's why we need stricter regulations on them via legislation supported by judicial decisions that protect victims. what we dont need is for the govt to become an evil scamming insurance company itself, as it would surely become the worst offender quickly not to mention put all the other companies out of business.
Guess what? In an Obama healthcare system, you would still be waiting to have your surgery! There is, without a doubt, oversight that needs to be instituted, but the government has NO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS given to them to run healthcare. Allow us to buy healthcare like we can car insurance Nancy! Take away the government boarders that limit people from being able to buy affordable insurance! That will lower costs without RAISING MY TAXES!!
1. Healthcare companies MUST become privately held enities that answer ONLY to the patronage, not wall street.
2. The United States govt. does NOT have any money with which to intervene unless they further dilute the value of your dollars by printing money out of thin air or borrow from foreign investors on the credit of people yet to be born. Does anyone realize how massive the national debt has become?? THOUSANDS of BILLIONS! Wake up!!
Almost no one is talking about an actual free market answer to reducing costs and restoring healthcare decisions to where they belong -- between patients and doctors.
Instead of creating a massive, tangled web of bureaucracy to address obstacles arising from government overregulation, we demand that Congress actually allow the free market to work.
I pay humongous premiums to my insurance co, and have for many years; rarely ever having them pay for anything (cuz I have a large deductible) as I'm a healthy person. I fear something might happen to me like Robin, cuz I had a small lesion removed (benign).
The U.S. is the biggest, baddest corporation in the world. If that sounds stupid to you, we are at an impass. Power structures, especially that of the U.S. Federal Government, seek to reinforce themselves. There are provisions in this bill that are terrible. If you switch employer, after 2013, you must adhere to the government plan, where is the choice in that?
If the proposed system is so good, why did congress and the President write an exemption for themselves? If it is not good enough for them, then it is not good enough for us. Next question, who is going to pay for this? Raise taxes equally for EVERYONE. Meet these two conditions, and then I might be in favor for it.
Her story is very compelling and you can multiply her experience thousands of times over. The dirty dark secret of dealing with health insurance carriers when you present a claim and you're original application wasn't 100% accurate. This is what happens when health insurance carriers become for profit and their stock price is driven by Wall Street analysts.
I am just interested in how you would propose to go about making your system fairer for all.
But if someone hasn't been paying medical insurance, do they have to die? At different times in life we can all find ourselves in difficulties not of our making (look at the global financial crisis). From the outside, many Americans appear cold and close hearted to those less fortunate.
I'd be interested to hear. This is not an attack.
A public health care system didn't destroy Australia, our economy is in better shape, and the majority of Australian's commit to their own health care plans with a tax benefit for it. The difference is that is someone in the middle gets caught out, our insurance companies don't hunt for every reason not to cover us. What is so wrong about closing that gap?
the difference is, in what obama is proposing, employers who use their own health care plans with private insurers dont get a tax benefit for it, they get a penalty fine that just so happens to be in the amount of how much the govt option would be. so its either get driven out of business or use the govt option. not to mention the insurance companies will falter or go out of business because nothing that needs to make a profit can compete with the govt program that doesnt need to make a profit.
You friggin Moron .... did you not listen to what the women said in this video... or is your fucking brain to small to understand.... SHE DID TAKE care of her own health care and she got fucked over by a corrupt system .... just wait until it happens to you ... I hope it does...
Do you not think that JFK was 'gambling with our lives" during the Cuban Missile Crisis? Imagine what it would be like had they called Kennedy's bluff. Liberal dimwit.
kennedy wasnt bluffing. we had a forward military base in turkey with nukes pointed at russia. they sought to have a forward base of their own. khruschev and kennedy made a deal such that they would pull out of cuba if we pulled out of turkey and we did (for a time. we're currently back in turkey, most likely with nukes pointed at russia). that's bargaining, not bluffing.

If it isn't Blue Cross choosing for you, it will be the Federal Government. Which is worse? I don't think Health Care is a "right", if it is, why isn't cable television and the internet a "right" as well. We need reform from the administrative and legal side of this issue. The government and taxpayers can NOT do more (especially when hospitals are closing due to serving illegal aliens)
The difference is that the bureaucrat that sits in the health insurance company is given bonuses and pay raises for denying people coverage.
Having a police department isn't a right either; I can't imagine a private police department with "dog the bounty hunter" style cops.
You are wrong about illegal residents, they use hospitals much less than Americans on the average because they fear being deported; besides, the illegal residents is a problem that must be fixed separately.
Yeah, because you're just grinning from ear to ear thinking about the money you're making while you have a time bomb in your body.
I can see her after her speech, high-fivin' her friends.
The health insurance companies need to be put out of business in favor of single payer. If they don't want to insure people, let them do something else.
You certainly don't do yourself any favours. Perhaps looking into other countries options might help you. If, indeed, you can believe that anyone dos anything better than America.
The art of deception? When looking into, say perhaps, Australia's health care system? Hardly - until you live with it, you can hardly call it a lie.
I don't know why so many Americans are so worried about money when their own countrymen are dying from a corrupt system. The rest of the world knows it's corrupt - why don't you?
Hey bro.... people here in the USA knows it's a messed up system ... it's the powers above us that want to keep the system in place because it's such a big money maker... truly disgusting...
it is truly disgusting, but what's scarier is now the govt (answerable to no one and above free market competition) wants to get in on this money making scheme. not a good idea! reform the private insurance companies and dont let them screw people over like they did this woman, but certainly dont let the govt move in and start doing the same
Private insurance doesn't belong in health care.... Auto home and life it works.... in health care it DOES not work ... it's a system based on denying care... EVEN if laws are passed there gonna raise rates so high on people with pre existing conditions there gonna force people into dropping there coverage... it's ugly... government is NOT only thinking about profit and government will NOT let you die... government controls what the hospitals can charge ...
Same crappy insurance. Long term health costs gets paid by the tax payer anyway when the insurance companies force us in to bankruptcy by canceling or not paying and arguing it for a long time. They are the only ones profiting. why not let the government run it. At least we have a voice.
I kind of like the Idea of just paying premiums and getting what the docs say that you need with out all of the mark up. Lets make it health care and not a business decision.
There is also a mark-up by hospitals; the insurance companies pay about 1/3 of what you are supposed to pay the hospital. This information is hidden from you. If you check the statements from the health insurance company after they pay the hospital, they tell you how much "you saved" they don't tell you how much they paid. Even Joe Barton who is a Republican would be denied coverage because he had a heart attack; he was happy he had federal provided insurance!
Where have you offered any compassion? Better yet, Where have I asked any of you? Moving along.....
Yes, my Father did pass in Oct. 2008, you can choose not to believe it, that is your right, but it is true. He wasn't as lucky as Robin Beaton here, she lived, he didn't. Having said that, she should have NEVER been dropped.
I don't compare pain, it doesn't work, but I am assume you still have your parents. I don't. You think you're empathetic? Maybe pathetic, not empathetic.
i am a big supporter of milton friedmand and chicago school of economics, but access to health is a human right. denying this access is a crime against humanity, especially in developed world. in american terms I would be hardcore republican. but i am a social democrat in Europe.
The insurance companies have a VERY sweet deal; they get to cherry pick from the healthy, while medicare and medicaid have to pay for the less healthy and older population. The incredible complexity of the billing deals between the insurance companies and the hospitals has EVOLVED to maximize hospital & insurance company revenue; that's it. Why would I care about what is fair for health insurance companies when they DON'T care about what's fair for people!?! Screw them.
Robin Beaton had her treatments delayed for months, making her condition much worse. She had to ask for charity from her congressman; she should have NEVER had to be in that position. Her Republican congressman helped her, BUT later when he interviewed the health insurance cronies he really very hard tried to help their case, and just couldn't. Joe Barton, her congressman is one of the congressmen submitting he republican plan which probably supports the status quo. Sad. I support a Public plan
The unfairness of the US health care system is not a war between the rich and the poor. Robin Beaton was an entrepreneur; she is hard working... she had to give her business, her savings, everything to the Hospitals. She was responsible, she bought insurance coverage, when the insurance company retroactively cancelled her contract, the hospital wouldn't treat her. The insurance companies have been getting away with too much, and they are doing it in concert with the hospitals.
Exactly. The same point I have tried to make in my videos. This affects ALL of us. Rich, poor, employed, disabled, all races and religions. Everyone is at risk in the current system.
Alisoninrome, please believe me I meant no disrespect to this issue at all. I suspect that you are reacting to my response to a callous individual that deserved to be put in his place. I believe that when certain people loudly blather their stupidity, they need to be confronted and we need not cringe or shrink from confronting them in fear of offending their feelings, limited as they are. Read my post again. The quoted comments are ones that this individual has use in his attack against me.
mtb416 you've been sucking on the Rush cock for so long that it has rotted your small brain. Why is it that you fucked up Repubs always say Both parties are to blame when your ass-hole party has been running the show and the country into the ground all these years. Maybe you need a little 'cancer' in your 26 year old life to give you a little more perspective and compassion......DOUCHE BAG!.......sorry for the caps.
mtb416-- Like you pointed out in your earlier post that, "there are a lot of fake posters putting up sob stories", and yours, as far as I'm concerned, is just as fake! Is your fathers death anymore real and painful than anyone elses? Or is it, that you're not Republican and you're not Democrat but you are 'YOU'? "Bitches Ain't Shit", when they think they are the center of the fucking universe. When you can't show any compassion for other people don't be expecting any for yourself.
Learn how to do a Gall stone flush for yourself it saved my life when Workmans comp gave me steriods trying to kill me for contracting HBV @ work and they never paid me only gave me drugs to destroy me Dept of Human services only helps illegals and under-age mothers its a death sentence to be American in America !
You're abusive reactions do not help our cause. This is a serious issue to be promoted with facts, not verbal abuse. You don't change anyone's mind with that.

Women in the U.S. have the GREATEST chance, by far, of surviving breast cancer, over 80%!!! IN the first 2 stages, it is 100% survival rate!!!!
Do we really want to mess with this?!!?!
Reform yes, sweeping coverage, even for those who are just leeches on the system, NO!
America is not a "cradle to grave" society, this is why we excel where others fail. This is why we are the only remaining superpower. This is why we are the richest. This is why our volunteer military is the best of the best
Dude mtb416, try hard to think. Medicaid already covers the poorest in the US. We are talking about hard working Americans that are left out there. Robin Beaton, the lady on this video was screwed by a employees at a health insurance company that probably were paid bonuses to try to screw her out of the coverage she had legally purchased. Mrs. Beaton's case is not unique, she mentioned two girls from her cancer meeting group who were also dropped. Do you EVEN have insurance?

I know there are a lot of fake posters putting up sob stories. The "left" is using this tactic to build up the perception that our system is in worse shape than it really is. It needs to be reformed, but don't buy every sob story you read, especially on YouTube. You don't have to believe me, but I know the "left" has people posting these fake sob stories across the web to incite people. DON'T BE FOOLED. There are many bad stories, but there are more good, sorry, these are the facts.
I am an independent, I consider myself to be of the Center, I DO NOT TRUST the health insurance companies. They have a pretty sweet deal, they only insure who they think is healthy AND low risk at a huge premium. Medicare and Medicaid absorb the riskier portion of the population (older and unhealthier). I SUPPORT A PUBLIC PLAN which will put the corrupt health insurance companies. The insurance companies will NOT treat you any better because you defend them.
mtb416, Why would you insult me? What is your solution? I am putting a fact out there: Health Insurance companies are there to opportunistically minimize risk and increase revenue. They have bureaucrats sitting on a chair at the insurance companies looking to maximize their bonus and job performance by denying you medical service.
This is not a fake. She could not go on public record saying this if it were untrue or she would be sued by BCBS. I worked in healthcare finance for 15 years. These things DO happen every day. You may not agree on the solution to the healthcare crisis, but calling this a fake is both silly and heartless.

You're an idiot. I never said Beaton's story is fake. Try reading a book, or at least my posts, which again, never say that this woman is lying. I am for reform, she should have never been dropped. The left uses this event as a reason for nationalized healthcare, to make you hate insurance companies, this is what I am against. Get a life, and some intelligence.
And you are sick! Yes, we do want a nationalized health care plan. One that works similar to medicare and that does NOT deny healthcare like insurance companies do. You are a SICKO for supporting private insurance!
So what's wrong with a combination of the two? Australia has a system such as that - and whilst it's far from perfect, it doesn't leave people dying in the street like this.
Why is nationalized healthcare so bad? Do you work in an insurance company, have shares or whatnot? Or you're just one of those people who think that nationalized healthcare is a way to "socialism" (i wonder if you know what socialism is)?
The thing is, your healthcare is as good as your roads and streets...
Do you know what socialism is? Do you know what a 'Single-Payer' system is? I highly doubt it.
First of all, the number of people uninsured is an embellishment on behalf of Obama.
Second of all, you seem to be black, which means no matter what Obama does you will support him. Did you know Obama's family owned slaves? Did you know he has ZERO slave blood? He attended nicer schools than 99.9% of white kids.
If you know any numbers, which you don't, this plan is too expensive, end of story.
You have just shown that the REAL reason you are against this has very little if anything to do with healthcare cost than to do with Pres. Obama. You say his family owned slaves. Most if not all of the pres. of the US did, so that is a nil point. He doesn't have slave blood. Are you referring to only US slaves, because many countries had slaves? Another nil point. Nicer Schools than white kids? How dare a half black kid get better than a "pure" white. Now you've told on yourself mtb416.
My talking about Obama's slave owning past and schools has nothing to do with the improper assumption that this bothers me, it is simply another reason that this is not your "normal" American black male, subsequently his interests are not congruent with the greater black community, rather, he uses his color as a device for political expediency, and since he is indeed our first President of color I find the implementation of such a device to be more shallow than ever. Racism-The democrats motto
Not your "normal" American black male? Talk about an improper assumption. Are YOU an American Black male? No? So what makes you an expert on what the "normal" American black male. A few acquaintances? You haven't a clue of what you're speaking in reference to the "greater black community." You see only what you wish to see & you base your beliefs on what you see in the media & what fits into your box of what SHOULD interest the black community. I'd wager a bet with you, but that would be cruel
Why can't I say "normal black male"? Obama said "typical white people", along with many other racial statements that grouped whites. The "normal" American black male does have slave blood, did NOT go to expensive schools, the likes of which 99% of white kids never go to or can afford. Obama is NOT a normal black male in America, obviously. One, he is President, second, and mostly, he does not have any of the scars of slavery, he is a false prophet, and I think the black community was duped.
Didn't say you couldn't say it, just don't think you are the one to define what the "normal black male" is or should be. America is not the only country to have practiced slavery, in fact a lot of countries in Africa. I'm sure his father's family was exposed to oppression & suffered "scars" by the British. Only people that wish to belittle him refer to him as a prophet.
No, fear of the unknown and unfamiliar is the most rational of fears. But, if things don't change, if chances aren't taken and new approaches aren't made, then we become a dinosaur. If you don't trust the gov't then by all means go to or stay with the private system if you don't mind funding castles in Ireland or fluffing up Swiss accounts. But, please don't complain if you find yourself, or a loved one sick & no longer covered because you'll be on your own.
The insurance company that dropped Beaton was clearly wrong. The tools that insurance companies have set up to care for people are good, but there desire to reject people must be regulated. She was clearly covered, this is why this story is so ridiculous.
As for your last sentence, my Father recently passed from cancer, but he was not as lucky as Ms. Beaton here, his cancer is much more rare and has much much higher mortality rates. He was covered, but medicine only goes so far still.
I wasn't actually referring to xenophobia, but funny you should bring it up because of the true meaning of the word. I'd say a large portion of Americans are indeed suffering from that disorder, which isn't rational at all. No I was referring to a fear that is unrelated to an actual group of people or a person, but more to a situation or state of being instead.
My condolences on your father, and I am glad he was covered. But, the mandate for a private for profit insurers is to cut cost and increase the bottom line. It's inevitable that they will try to keep from paying out more than they take in. I don't know if you've seen this before, or heard about it, but you might find it interesting.
Now, the fact that you've turned a video on healthcare reform into a why black people shouldn't have voted for Obama rant, lets me know that you are choosing to play the race card in your argument, so I'm not going to continue. Peace.
We need healthcare reform, but ObamaCare is simply too expensive with too many controls.
Single payer is not a good idea, and will lessen our care. Why you trust me government so much is a mystery to me. I do not trust corporations any more than I trust the government, but at least I can take my business elsewhere. When the government does wrong, who do I report it to? The government? Do you see this terrible problem you encounter?
mtb416: Obama's wife has "slave blood," therefore so do his children.
Even the Lewin Group, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of UnitedHealth, and is frequently cited by the republic party, says the average family will pay $209 less in their premiums under a public option. Plus, unlike this case, it won't matter what problems you had in the past. No ins co CEO will be able to dictate your life for you - YOU will be in total control. And no more medical bankruptcies!
I know exactly what Socialism is. I've read my Marx, Engels and even some Trotsky.
I also read Samuelson, Friedman and Hayek. I know exactly what a Single payer system is and with all it's flaws is far better than the Russian roulette that unregulated private insurance is. As for numbers, there are between 40 and 50 million of Americans uninsured. As for the color of my skin, does it matter? And why I appear to be black?
So with all your "studies" are you just trying to prove your acceptance of socialism, or trying to say that you "understand" it. You're a fool, trying reading a book on finance.
And yes, if the US survived Dubya, it will survive Obama and the pack that you're part of.
You are either too stupid to know what you're doing or you're just trying to protect your investment portfolio. Any sane person will know that Obama's bill will do nothing to the private insurance. But it will force them to lower prices and revise the pre-existing conditions policy. And a profiteer can't have that. There's nothing wrong with profit. But blood profit.......
actually there are not 40-50 million uninsured americans. the 46-47 million figure that obama liked to use up until recently included illegal immigrants, temporary legal immigants and other non-citizens. not including them, the figure that obama himself used last night dropped to 30 million. people who voluntarily do not want insurance should be subtracted from this figure. even still, should we sacrifice the coverage plans of 250 million insured americans to give 30 million something crappy?
And another thing, why don't you go wave a birth certificate to a town hall meeting? And scream your ass off when someone tries to explain what is the healthcare bill all about? And don't forget to tell the government to take it's filthy hands of your Medicare...
People like you are either very rich, very stupid or on a leach trying to please it's masters.
If it's the latter, I hope the bread crumbs are enough to make you forget the asinine things you write here... "you must be black".....
You're grasping at straws. Just call me a "birther" like you want to, even though you would be wrong. The U.S. will survive the mistake that is Obama.
Haven't you been listening to the Republicans all these years, it's all about the "Free Market", "Capitalism", "The Private Sector", "De-regulation", "The Great Communicator: Ronald Regan", "More De-regulation", "Read My Lips: No New Taxes", "Let the market place decide", "De-regulate the Insurance industry, and costs will go down", and so on. Do we have to continue to listen to the lies from these pigs and continue to be their victims?

Your name is fitting, you ARE a CLOWN.
A CLOWN who believes that only the Republicans are to blame. Ever heard of the Community Reinvestment Act? An act that helped destroy the mortgage industry, put there by a DEMOCRATIC congress in 2006.
Do your homework, douche bag. BOTH PARTIES are to BLAME.
Sorry for the caps, but a person of such limited capacity, like yourself, needs to have things repeated and spelled out to insure proper understanding. Go jump off a cliff, don't forget the kool-aid.
what does community reinvestment act have to do with health care... The problem wasn't the community reinvestment act, the problem was that those mortgages were improperly labeled as non-risky, in fact they were labeled as very safe, investments through deregulation.
I'm tired of hearing people who think we have SUCH a good health system... It sucks if you don't have any. Sucks unless you are wealthy or healthy.
And for all those fuckers who don't think health should be for everyone. Then don't call the cops the next time you are in need, or firemen when your house is burning down or read a fucking library book.
For a country that wouldn't even be here if not for the "HELP" of France, we sure forget our own citizens right quick!
If you want low taxes, low inflation, and affordable health care, we should have a war on big government, high overhead, high taxes, unfathomable inflation, and big government waste.
The should just make insurance companies not for profit. That way they'll be tax free, not worrying about pleasing shareholders, premiums would be lower, and the people running them wouldn't be giving themselves massive raises for firing people and cutting people out of their insurance. Plus people would still be able to chose based on who provides the best service.
yup. it can't be done. Private company. You put up a barrier and they'll just find another way like not insure you at all if you have it in your family.
they only rescind if u lie on your application and it never happens on group policies

God provided for her) third, insurance companies should not be able to drop you just like that. that is something we should work on. however he need to remember insurance companies don't make a lot of money. Only about 4% profit.

Thank God for people like Joe Barton.

Maybe if there was a public option that need would have been met
skippypithie 2 years ago
alfrunk, I do not love hearing from the economically illiterate right, who fail to understand this simple fact. It was the economic policies you promoted which led to the current recession! Some of us are trying to help the people your policies hurt. You are simply trying to tell them "it wasn't me! A big boy did it and ran away"
skippypithie 2 years ago
repukeslie7, Insurance companies are not the villains because they pay their CEO's to much? If I'm aiming for a 4% profit margin, as in dividends to my shareholders. If I score high then I can cream off the rest for myself. The more claims I can deny the more money for me. The insurance company is the villain because they collude to earn that extra profit.
skippypithie 2 years ago

That's not a death panel but a hit squad.

numnunums 2 years ago 3
Now imagine health insurance and employment aren't tied together (the way they wouldn't be in a truly capitalist society). And imagine because of the millions of people who don't have insurance there is a huge profit motive for an entrepreneur to provide an affordable insurance plan to said millions. And imagine other entrepreneurs following his example do the same. Now imagine there are thousands of options for people to choose exactly the kind of care they want. Sadly, this is an analogy.

BreeSoSeksi 2 years ago 2
what prevents this kind of thing from happening more often is that there are other insurance companies out there competing with blue cross and blue shield such that if they screw you over, you can go somewhere else. that gives them incentive not to screw you over (or at least not to screw too many people over too badly). more competition is better. remove the federal rules that prohibit interstate insurance so someone can pick an insurance company from any state in the union.

health insurance companies are evil and always trying to scam people out of their money. that's why we need stricter regulations on them via legislation supported by judicial decisions that protect victims. what we dont need is for the govt to become an evil scamming insurance company itself, as it would surely become the worst offender quickly not to mention put all the other companies out of business.

69QuIzAcK69 2 years ago
69QuIzAcK69 2 years ago
Wake up!!
shinynewmachine 2 years ago
Almost no one is talking about an actual free market answer to reducing costs and restoring healthcare decisions to where they belong -- between patients and doctors.
Instead of creating a massive, tangled web of bureaucracy to address obstacles arising from government overregulation, we demand that Congress actually allow the free market to work.

The U.S. is the biggest, baddest corporation in the world. If that sounds stupid to you, we are at an impass. If you switch employer, after 2013, you must adhere to the government plan, where is the choice in that?
mtb416 2 years ago
If the proposed system is so good, why did congress and the President write an exemption for themselves? If it is not good enough for them, then it is not good enough for us. Next question, who is going to pay for this? Raise taxes equally for EVERYONE. Meet these two conditions, and then I might be in favor for it.

Her story is very compelling and you can multiply her experience thousands of times over. A public health care system didn't destroy Australia, our economy is in better shape, and the majority of Australian's commit to their own health care plans with a tax benefit for it. The difference is that is someone in the middle gets caught out, our insurance companies don't hunt for every reason not to cover us. What is so wrong about closing that gap?
chiwuwu 2 years ago
You think I have something against "closing the gap"? Do you people even read my posts before you judge me!!
mtb416 2 years ago
the difference is, in what obama is proposing, employers who use their own health care plans with private insurers dont get a tax benefit for it, they get a penalty fine that just so happens to be in the amount of how much the govt option would be. so its either get driven out of business or use the govt option. not to mention the insurance companies will falter or go out of business because nothing that needs to make a profit can compete with the govt program that doesnt need to make a profit.

The difference is that the bureaucrat that sits in the health insurance company is given bonuses and pay raises for denying people coverage.

CorydonFirst 2 years ago 4
There is also a mark-up by hospitals; the insurance companies pay about 1/3 of what you are supposed to pay the hospital. This information is hidden from you. If you check the statements from the health insurance company after they pay the hospital, they tell you how much "you saved" they don't tell you how much they paid. Even Joe Barton who is a Republican would be denied coverage because he had a heart attack; he was happy he had federal provided insurance!

Screw them.
onlyrey 2 years ago
Robin Beaton had her treatments delayed for months, making her condition much worse. She had to ask for charity from her congressman; she should have NEVER had to be in that position. Her Republican congressman helped her, BUT later when he interviewed the health insurance cronies he really very hard tried to help their case, and just couldn't. Joe Barton, her congressman is one of the congressmen submitting he republican plan which probably supports the status quo. Sad. I support a Public plan

ozarkdem 2 years ago 4
The unfairness of the US health care system is not a war between the rich and the poor. Robin Beaton was an entrepreneur; she is hard working... she had to give her business, her savings, everything to the Hospitals. She was responsible, she bought insurance coverage, when the insurance company retroactively cancelled her contract, the hospital wouldn't treat her. The insurance companies have been getting away with too much, and they are doing it in concert with the hospitals.

mtb416-- Like you pointed out in your earlier post that, "there are a lot of fake posters putting up sob stories", and yours, as far as I'm concerned, is just as fake!

There are many bad stories, but there are more good, sorry, these are the facts.
mtb416 2 years ago

They have bureaucrats sitting on a chair at the insurance companies looking to maximize their bonus and job performance by denying you medical service.
onlyrey 2 years ago
This is not a fake. She could not go on public record saying this if it were untrue or she would be sued by BCBS. I worked in healthcare finance for 15 years. These things DO happen every day. You may not agree on the solution to the healthcare crisis, but calling this a fake is both silly and heartless.

You're an idiot. I never said Beaton's story is fake. Try reading a book, or at least my posts, which again, never say that this woman is lying. I am for reform, she should have never been dropped. The left uses this event as a reason for nationalized healthcare, to make you hate insurance companies, this is what I am against. Get a life, and some intelligence.
mtb416 2 years ago
And you are sick! Yes, we do want a nationalized health care plan. One that works similar to medicare and that does NOT deny healthcare like insurance companies do. You are a SICKO for supporting private insurance!
cutis1000 2 years ago
So what's wrong with a combination of the two? Australia has a system such as that - and whilst it's far from perfect, it doesn't leave people dying in the street like this.
chiwuwu 2 years ago
Why is nationalized healthcare so bad? Do you work in an insurance company, have shares or whatnot? Or you're just one of those people who think that nationalized healthcare is a way to "socialism" (i wonder if you know what socialism is)?
The thing is, your healthcare is as good as your roads and streets...
thewyrm666 2 years ago
Do you know what socialism is? Do you know what a 'Single-Payer' system is? I highly doubt it.
First of all, the number of people uninsured is an embellishment on behalf of Obama.
Second of all, you seem to be black, which means no matter what Obama does you will support him. Did you know Obama's family owned slaves? Did you know he has ZERO slave blood? He attended nicer schools than 99.9% of white kids.
If you know any numbers, which you don't, this plan is too expensive, end of story.
mtb416 2 years ago
You have just shown that the REAL reason you are against this has very little if anything to do with healthcare cost than to do with Pres. Obama. You say his family owned slaves. Most if not all of the pres. of the US did, so that is a nil point. He doesn't have slave blood. Are you referring to only US slaves, because many countries had slaves? Another nil point. Nicer Schools than white kids? How dare a half black kid get better than a "pure" white. Now you've told on yourself mtb416.
tbjw1 2 years ago
My talking about Obama's slave owning past and schools has nothing to do with the improper assumption that this bothers me, it is simply another reason that this is not your "normal" American black male, subsequently his interests are not congruent with the greater black community, rather, he uses his color as a device for political expediency, and since he is indeed our first President of color I find the implementation of such a device to be more shallow than ever. Racism-The democrats motto
mtb416 2 years ago
Not your "normal" American black male? Talk about an improper assumption. Are YOU an American Black male? No? So what makes you an expert on what the "normal" American black male. A few acquaintances? You haven't a clue of what you're speaking in reference to the "greater black community." You see only what you wish to see & you base your beliefs on what you see in the media & what fits into your box of what SHOULD interest the black community. I'd wager a bet with you, but that would be cruel
tbjw1 2 years ago 2
Why can't I say "normal black male"? Obama said "typical white people", along with many other racial statements that grouped whites. The "normal" American black male does have slave blood, did NOT go to expensive schools, the likes of which 99% of white kids never go to or can afford. Obama is NOT a normal black male in America, obviously. One, he is President, second, and mostly, he does not have any of the scars of slavery, he is a false prophet, and I think the black community was duped.
mtb416 2 years ago
Didn't say you couldn't say it, just don't think you are the one to define what the "normal black male" is or should be. America is not the only country to have practiced slavery, in fact a lot of countries in Africa. I'm sure his father's family was exposed to oppression & suffered "scars" by the British. Only people that wish to belittle him refer to him as a prophet.

Fear of government is the most rational of all fears.
mtb416 2 years ago
typo!...trust *the* government so..
mtb416 2 years ago
No, fear of the unknown and unfamiliar is the most rational of fears. But, if things don't change, if chances aren't taken and new approaches aren't made, then we become a dinosaur. If you don't trust the gov't then by all means go to or stay with the private system if you don't mind funding castles in Ireland or fluffing up Swiss accounts. But, please don't complain if you find yourself, or a loved one sick & no longer covered because you'll be on your own.
tbjw1 2 years ago 3
The insurance company that dropped Beaton was clearly wrong. The tools that insurance companies have set up to care for people are good, but there desire to reject people must be regulated. She was clearly covered, this is why this story is so ridiculous.
As for your last sentence, my Father recently passed from cancer, but he was not as lucky as Ms. Beaton here, his cancer is much more rare and has much much higher mortality rates. He was covered, but medicine only goes so far still.

Xenophobia is a condition, not the greatest of all fears.
mtb416 2 years ago
I wasn't actually referring to xenophobia, but funny you should bring it up because of the true meaning of the word. I'd say a large portion of Americans are indeed suffering from that disorder, which isn't rational at all. No I was referring to a fear that is unrelated to an actual group of people or a person, but more to a situation or state of being instead.

My condolences on your father, and I am glad he was covered. But, the mandate for a private for profit insurers is to cut cost and increase the bottom line. It's inevitable that they will try to keep from paying out more than they take in. I don't know if you've seen this before, or heard about it, but you might find it interesting.

tbjw1 2 years ago 6
You're right, we have both gotten off-track.

Go get an education, how about that wyrm666?
mtb416 2 years ago
Well, since I have time, I will answer you.
And why I appear to be black?
thewyrm666 2 years ago
So with all your "studies" are you just trying to prove your acceptance of socialism, or trying to say that you "understand" it. You're a fool, trying reading a book on finance.
mtb416 2 years ago
Google Hayek you tool...
But blood profit.......
thewyrm666 2 years ago 3
actually there are not 40-50 million uninsured americans. the 46-47 million figure that obama liked to use up until recently included illegal immigrants, temporary legal immigants and other non-citizens. not including them, the figure that obama himself used last night dropped to 30 million. people who voluntarily do not want insurance should be subtracted from this figure. even still, should we sacrifice the coverage plans of 250 million insured americans to give 30 million something crappy?

And another thing, why don't you go wave a birth certificate to a town hall meeting? And scream your ass off when someone tries to explain what is the healthcare bill all about? And don't forget to tell the government to take it's filthy hands of your Medicare...
People like you are either very rich, very stupid or on a leach trying to please it's masters.
If it's the latter, I hope the bread crumbs are enough to make you forget the asinine things you write here... "you must be black".....

Go jump off a cliff, don't forget the kool-aid.
mtb416 2 years ago
what does community reinvestment act have to do with health care... The problem wasn't the community reinvestment act, the problem was that those mortgages were improperly labeled as non-risky, in fact they were labeled as very safe, investments through deregulation.

America has the best health care system in the world...for healthy people.
If your sick the main goal of the insurance companies is NOT to help you even though you paid money for that help.
93rardo 2 years ago 6
I'm tired of hearing people who think we have SUCH a good health system... It sucks if you don't have any. Sucks unless you are wealthy or healthy.
And for all those fuckers who don't think health should be for everyone. Then don't call the cops the next time you are in need, or firemen when your house is burning down or read a fucking library book.
For a country that wouldn't even be here if not for the "HELP" of France, we sure forget our own citizens right quick!

The should just make insurance companies not for profit. That way they'll be tax free, not worrying about pleasing shareholders, premiums would be lower, and the people running them wouldn't be giving themselves massive raises for firing people and cutting people out of their insurance. Plus people would still be able to chose based on who provides the best service.
owl975 2 years ago 2
Why don't we just make it harder for these insurance companies to deny people with real problems? Are you telling me that can't be done?
