It was funny. One day i let my eight year old cousin play this while i went running for wrestling, and when i came back he had gotten a close defeat against yoeeb. Later, i got a message from his saying that he destroyed me, and that he was the best general ever. I told him that he had been playing my eight year old cousin and he freaked out. It was rather amusing.
You at first were doing great. Very nice tactic. I just got this game and im always the french. I used the tactic but I didnt keep any in the center. I sent half my force to the right and the half to the left and just closed in. I was fighting my brother and I totally killed all of his men.
I think if you would have token out his artillery earlier in the game, your line infantry would still have full pop in them and they would have been able to fight better

because if you open up his defenses, you can split the battle into different sections and relay on those specific troops to do their job, then attack another section from the flank. and its easier to defend because usually you can get the first shot off your opponent and you can fortify your troops in a number of ways to make it harder to break for the attacker

I hate playing yoeeb everytime I did he just got about 7 or 8 ferguson riflemen 4 or 5 cavalry then 2 or 3 like and 2 24 pounders none of my army was effective but I was a noob and this was like 4 months ago
This just shows the overpowered repeating rifle light infantry, ferguson rifles and windbuche jaegers. They are basically IWIN buttons since they outclass all other rifles by a huge margin.

I think the attempted flanking maneover significantly weakend Prince's army. It was too much to hope the Yoeeb would not have noticed. The flanking would have worked only when the armies were distracted.
honestly, people are not using cavalry to their full extent. a single spoiling attack to the front would take out the skirmishers and a pincer movement on the counter-attack on the right and the battle wold have been his...

Muskets don't allow you to go prone, idiot. A musket is one step up (or down? I think up) from an Arquebuiser (sp). They're not Mosin-Nagants or Springfields, not AK-74s or M16A2s, but muskets with a range of, what, 150 yards?
it would be cool if fire was a factor. so if you know and enemy was in the forest, you can burn them out. or you can burn grassy plains. it would make you think how to avoid the fire and out-flank you opponent. that would be cool
I'm also a little disappointed that the trees are not susceptible to artillery fire. In the American Civil War, for example, it was common for batteries to combat the presence of enemy troop in a tree line, by aiming for the tops of the trees, or sending explosive shells into the forest in the hopes of destroying their cover, and scaring the bejeezus out of the men.

You should have pressed in on their centre when you attacked the flanks, which would have prevented him from defending each flank simulteanously and crushing your army piecemeal.

Historically and for obvious reasons defending was much easier than attacking. A reason the British had such trouble in America during the French and Indian War, 75- 83 war and 1812 war. The British were almost constantly having to dislodge defending armies.
There should be an option to give the "attacking force" more gold/units. Thus you could also play battles on favorable terrain which would be defended by the weaker side.
That makes no sense. All of the hardcore Rome Total War players always played on flat maps because it stressed maneuver. It also took away the power of camping.
Have you played online yet? People are getting 100-0 records due to them hosting maps, and camping on mountains, hill, plateaus, etc. It's funny how none of this existed in Rome Total War or Medieval II Total War because of the existence of flat maps.
People should have an option between playing balanced or imbalanced maps.
When I played Shogun we normally all played the 'TERRAIN HEAVY' maps in non-Honour mode so you gained nothing from winning. It was good fun. The map was Yamato I think, very hilly, but great fun to play on.
all im saying is that terrain had a big effect on battles in the gunpowder ge; battle of waterloo revolved around the 2 farmhouses of la haye sainte and hougoumont, so to take that out completely would insane; it could easily become just 2 lines shooting at eachother. i think that the houses and walls should resolve around a more 'take and hold' ethic; whereby it is impossible to camp in order to gain the terrain advantage, by puting things like walls and houses outside the deployment zone
i hope by flat map you dont mean a map without any terrain advantage, because if so then i disagree. i think there must be advantageous terrain that can be exploited, but not in the deployment zone, the player should have to move to gain control of it, making it a game of maneuover, not camping. otherwise, the maps would be barren and boring, as is the case in rome, not saying that rome was bad, just that the maps are almost featureless
In Rome and Medieval II, you had a choice between flat & balanced maps, and the gorgeous (yet imbalanced) maps. Empire only offers imbalanced maps.
You would not believe how many people have achieved impossible skill ratings due to them hosting on maps where they get a superior terrain advantage.
Some people prefer balance for their battles. That's why myself and the other hardcore RTW players always played on flat maps. Camping on terrain just means you got lucky in deployment.
i disagree with koroshiya978; as in real life you could only camp if it were a way to achieve your strategic aims; so if you were trying to advance into enemy territory then camping would not be a viable option, so it would not always be valid. also artilley only did more damage when in musket range; using grape shot.
I think some people are being a bit unfair to yoeeb. In real life "camping" is a valid strategy and artillery killed a heck more people than muskets. I think it does show that E:TW still has many flaws and that TW needs a new way of doing maps. Perhaps adding capture points that force people to split their force up and if someone camps they lose if they don't take any initiative at all.
This isn't real life. Also, in real life, both commanders did NOT start off with an equal of resources to work with. If a commander camped on a strong defensive position, the enemy commander would've had more resources at his disposal to uproot him. Here, I have equal money for attacking his defensive position.
Also, Yoeeb was a bit harsh to me off the battlefield. He's lucky I didn't report everything that he said to me. The only thing I mentioned about him was that he was stalking me.

then id guess whenever you fight someone you decide to charge them straight off instead of having your missile units shoot them first? using your missile units to fire would make you a camper, in the end everyone camps. and if yeoob was a noob how come he beat POM? and dont say cause he camped.. thats a strategy commonly used. if yeoob is a noob he should be an easy beat so why dont you go online and fight him. that way we will know.

yes i have seen his videos. and personally i still think its strategy. if whoever doesn't think so maybe he should get some powerful cannons to screw up his opponents formation and then take advantage of the opening. every strategy has a weakness and POM didn't find Yeoobs. which apparently as i see it is simply using some cannons. i know camping may seem pathetic. but light infantry have a weakness. and everything has a backside

And the cannons in the game are diffrent, the ones in this particular battle are very accurately designed, so read up on your history before you start making stupid accusations!

I dont like Empire total war. Canons sucks. theay are not strong enoughf. Muskets don't allow you to go prone, idiot. A musket is one step up (or down? I think up) from an Arquebuiser (sp). They're not Mosin-Nagants or Springfields, not AK-74s or M16A2s, but muskets with a range of, what, 150 yards?

it would be cool if fire was a factor. so if you know and enemy was in the forest, you can burn them out. or you can burn grassy plains. it would make you think how to avoid the fire and out-flank you opponent. that would be cool

I'm also a little disappointed that the trees are not susceptible to artillery fire. In the American Civil War, for example, it was common for batteries to combat the presence of enemy troop in a tree line, by aiming for the tops of the trees, or sending explosive shells into the forest in the hopes of destroying their cover, and scaring the bejeezus out of the men.

You should have pressed in on their centre when you attacked the flanks, which would have prevented him from defending each flank simulteanously and crushing your army piecemeal.

Historically and for obvious reasons defending was much easier than attacking. A reason the British had such trouble in America during the French and Indian War, 75- 83 war and 1812 war. The British were almost constantly having to dislodge defending armies.

There should be an option to give the "attacking force" more gold/units. Thus you could also play battles on favorable terrain which would be defended by the weaker side.

That makes no sense. All of the hardcore Rome Total War players always played on flat maps because it stressed maneuver. It also took away the power of camping.
Have you played online yet? People are getting 100-0 records due to them hosting maps, and camping on mountains, hill, plateaus, etc. It's funny how none of this existed in Rome Total War or Medieval II Total War because of the existence of flat maps.
People should have an option between playing balanced or imbalanced maps.

When I played Shogun we normally all played the 'TERRAIN HEAVY' maps in non-Honour mode so you gained nothing from winning. It was good fun. The map was Yamato I think, very hilly, but great fun to play on.

all im saying is that terrain had a big effect on battles in the gunpowder ge; battle of waterloo revolved around the 2 farmhouses of la haye sainte and hougoumont, so to take that out completely would insane; it could easily become just 2 lines shooting at eachother. i think that the houses and walls should resolve around a more 'take and hold' ethic; whereby it is impossible to camp in order to gain the terrain advantage, by puting things like walls and houses outside the deployment zone

i hope by flat map you dont mean a map without any terrain advantage, because if so then i disagree. i think there must be advantageous terrain that can be exploited, but not in the deployment zone, the player should have to move to gain control of it, making it a game of maneuover, not camping. otherwise, the maps would be barren and boring, as is the case in rome, not saying that rome was bad, just that the maps are almost featureless

In Rome and Medieval II, you had a choice between flat & balanced maps, and the gorgeous (yet imbalanced) maps. Empire only offers imbalanced maps.
You would not believe how many people have achieved impossible skill ratings due to them hosting on maps where they get a superior terrain advantage.
Some people prefer balance for their battles. That's why myself and the other hardcore RTW players always played on flat maps. Camping on terrain just means you got lucky in deployment.

i disagree with koroshiya978; as in real life you could only camp if it were a way to achieve your strategic aims; so if you were trying to advance into enemy territory then camping would not be a viable option, so it would not always be valid. also artilley only did more damage when in musket range; using grape shot.

I think some people are being a bit unfair to yoeeb. In real life "camping" is a valid strategy and artillery killed a heck more people than muskets. I think it does show that E:TW still has many flaws and that TW needs a new way of doing maps. Perhaps adding capture points that force people to split their force up and if someone camps they lose if they don't take any initiative at all.

This isn't real life. Also, in real life, both commanders did NOT start off with an equal of resources to work with. If a commander camped on a strong defensive position, the enemy commander would've had more resources at his disposal to uproot him. Here, I have equal money for attacking his defensive position.
Also, Yoeeb was a bit harsh to me off the battlefield. He's lucky I didn't report everything that he said to me. The only thing I mentioned about him was that he was stalking me.
