  • Well, I guess perfection truely does lie with one, but a close 2nd, I give him.

  • why 5 dislikes ??? are u kidding me.

  • Division Bell has such awesome songs! We love you Dave!

  • Muito bacana ^^

  • he's always THE BEST!!!!

  • He messed up pretty bad singing the same verse twice....but he's so good you almost don't notice.

  • There are a lot of good guitarists out there who are really good at playing the guitar. Gilmour is just really good at playing music, he just happens to be good at playing the guitar.

  • Great music !

  • Gilmour could lead the choir in Heaven and no Angel would say a word.

  • @ghostorhid2 I glad you favorited this song I send you my love. I love you too Susie. You help me understand my sexuality. I not ashamed to be lesbian like you no more. It good feeling. Thank you my Agent CAS. I so happy!-JJ.**

  • David Gilmour makes my soul cry . Hes the reason the sun rises every day .

  • he needs power to sing ... but he can play guitar epic

  • Messed up the lyrics at 1:26- you can see him searching for the correct verse before singing. Great song though!

  • he is the best

  • The solo is pretty good, but I think he has some better solos. Slightly more emotion comes out of the strat tone.

  • @imtormentor i agree the strat has a more sweet, piercing sound

  • awsome

  • magnifico!!!!!!!!!

  • duo-jet

  • simply magnific, a great david

  • this was uploaded on my birthday :)

  • again another wow! He's just about as good as you - lol

  • would you people please listen to guitar tracks iv uploaded on here?

it'd mean alot to get some constructive critics. i come out with guitar songs

once sometimes twice a week. i record them off my tascam in my bedroom.

  • he denies it but this has to be a poke at Waters

  • I was going to be a film director and it was at my last day at film school that i heard comfortably numb and high hopes. I was 23 and the next day i decided to give it all up and become a guitarist!

  • @alexanderduncan amen!

  • The wall of communism is down. The new wall of consumption is ready for us.

    FTT(Hungary)

  • Pink Floyd wrote "Dogs".

  • lol broken chair 88 idk how many times i seen you say that on different videos lol keep it up bro :D i support you yes they did write dogs

  • roger waters is an asshole for breaking up the best band in the world

  • i think roger did what he knew had to happen - his actions led to a gilmour led floyd. True he tried to sue them, but imagine if he hadn't left the band, we'd still be listening to songs about the war and his father.

  • What a voice ........ wow

  • The first time I heard A Great Day For Freedon, I cried. The first time music had affected me that deeply.

  • same thing happened with me, but it was Comfortably Numb

  • It's not the difficulty of his playing, I have heard several guitarist able to play his style, its the fact that he comes up with this material in the first place that blows me away, and has for more than 35 years.

  • I agree with that man. Nobody can compose a solo like Gilmour.

  • @Raisingwolves,my sentiments exactly.Well said .

Take a leaf from the mans book and dont copy, find your own thing/way/style/satisfaction.

  • what about echoes on the meddle album-great guitar playing........

  • david gilmore-one of the best if not the best guitarist in the world-only dave can make a guitar sing and wine.........

  • gilmour

  • I stand corrected-David Gilmour-thanks....still the best.....

  • I would add Mark Knopfler

  • he just walks away like its nothing lol

  • El mejor guitarrista sin dudas

  • Ya, there is a mistake in lyrics.

Oh my God, this is the very first time I notice a mistake like this in way above 2000 hours of listening to live material.

He did noticed it too. You can see it in is face.

That's the mark of a pro. The show must go on.

AMAZING, thanks for the performance and thanks for the post.

  • wateva DG plays he plays at his best.. this solo is also amazing and the beauty is its not very highly pitched yet increases ur blood circulation.. Comfortably numb has a scale fm very low to very high n that gets into ur nerve like a coke.. wish DG live long n keep playing..

  • does any body notice he says one verse twice?

  • very very good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the first time that I heard David to play I wanted to learn how to play guitar, now that I know I realized that He is a God.

La primera vez que escuché a David tocar la guitarra me dieron ganas de aprenter, ahora que sé me doy cuenta de que Él es un Dios

  • Great camera Work on this one

  • this solo is TOTALLY FANTASTIC

moj ideal solowki, piekniejszej byc nie moze:)

  • Not his best solo. Comfortably numb and coming back to life are better. So is Take a breath.

  • nice solo, but the comfortably numb solo is the best he ever played, definitly

  • its spelled Gilmour learn how to read and spell.

  • Maybe you are, but it's an epic solo. Beautifully wonderful and emotional.

  • so when is your next mission?

  • yes ^^ he forgot it ^^ absoulutly profeesionell he just kept on singing i love that guy. and i like the way he looks in his solos live its like he wants to say : fuck what the fuck am i playing ? but it sound so great

  • haha he misses "life devalues day by day" and then gives a wicked smile @1:44. Gilmour's the best!!!!

  • When the human Ego is seen through by all. The Wall will desolve.

  • better than comfortably numb? i dont think so.

  • Music is a form of defination that represent human brain capacity to create shapes and patterns. Some people are extremely lucky to have the ability to play around with it....

  • I think its far from his best guitar solos. But that is a good thing, cos it speaks of how great the rest are... for instance comfortably numb.

  • It's a Gretsch

  • what guitar is that? I don't recognize it.

  • It's a late '50's Gretsch Duo Jet. Awesome guitar.

My favorite solo is in Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

  • Amazing feel! Just amazing. He's got such a great tone, I can't think of any new players with the same "mojo"??

  • what else can i say? is a monster. The best. FEDERICO LOPEZ. CHIVILCOY. BUENOS AIRES. ARGENTINA.

  • Hi Mr?Ken^^~♪

    My Enjoy!

    thank you very much.

  • his face looks kinda funny in solo

  • yeah, his face is connected to the strings, all his life

  • He feels what he's doing!!

  • este hombre revoluciono el mundo del ro ck, no importa el genero...

  • I really don't get what some people mean when they say "Gilmour has not such great technique"... Are you crazy???

What do you think Technique is??? If you can't or don't want to play fast it doesn't mean your technique is bad!!!

Look at his hands, listen to what he plays and you will notice his technique is amazing.

1 more thing: Don't you think playing fast is a matter of practice? if any guitar player wants to do it he would practice 10hs a day to achieve it! Thats not what DG looks for!

  • Well sid sebazo...speed isn't everything...just ask your girl...

  • Haha

  • i agree, where as 'speed' and getting out your best 12bar licks as quick as you can is usually enough for most 'famous' guitar legends.. with Gilmour its not about either, its about patience, building drama, the suspension of disbelief, eloquence & beauty.. David Gilmour is the best example in the world today of Guitar technique. i mean, if not... who the hell is ?! Coldplays guitarist ? Jon Bovi's Guitarist ? the Edge ? Noel Gallagher ?

    dont think so .

  • Gimour plays with such emotion and passion. Speed does show that you are a very skilled guitarist, but not necessarily a good musician. to me, alot of times, the best guitar solos are the most moving/emotional, rather than technically difficult.

  • @sebazo agree...gilmour says more with one note than what any fast player can say in a whole solo...best guitar player ever

  • @sebazo Gilmour song with his soul!!! He is the best!!!!

  • @sebazo you are perfectly right. just his bending is beyond amazing!!

  • David makes every note a melody. You can hear a David Gilmour guitar solo one time, and sing it back to yourself in your head days later. Only the creme of the crop can play that movingly and memorably.

  • Where was this played?

  • I guess is in Gdansk

  • It was Paris 23rd January 2002

  • @Mrpeumo not gdansk, search the gdansk performance of this song, best performance i have ever seen!

  • Paris

  • See the GOD HAS descended!!

  • Why the Gretsch, damnit?

Meh, the solo is good, but this song isn't really all that great. Roger Waters was definitely the better lyricist.

  • i agree, waters was the better lyricist.. um, but this song, and it's subject matter in particular - very, very roger waters.

i know roger said unkind things about the division bell album, but its rogers wobbling on about WW2 and the faulklands that kindda helped me key into this song.. its one of my favourites off its album, i actually prefer it to Coming Back to Life, which i thought i'd never say for my first few years of knowing them.

  • is that a rickenbacker?

  • that'd be a Gretsch Duo Jet

  • vai has a lot of soul in his playing the person without soul in his music is yngwie malmsteen. He just shreds up and down in scales and herman lee sucks. Gilmour's playing is just godly it takes you to another universe

  • malisimo lo tuyo ehh

  • they sure are great guitarrists, but they are the virtuose kind, and gilmour just play his sound with soul and perfection, and he doesnt need any killing riff to show his skill

  • this certainly isn't his best playing (the live one with the strat is much better), but the album version is the most majestic solo I've ever heard.

  • sickspastic, I couldn't agree more, other than the fact that he my favourite guitarist, so IMO he is the best. But I 100% agree with you

  • this is chill... I'm still high from last night... very nicccee

  • it really doesn´t mather who is the best, they all are good players, but gilmour´s music (and floyd´s)represents an aspect in the rock that goes beyond the popularity, and entertainment...

  • Amazing song and solo! Gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists.

  • I wouldn't say Gilmour is the best guitarist ever, but he is certainly the best feeling guitarist. The feelings he invokes in you are indescribable. The way he catptures the feeling of each and every song with his solos is amazing, and the way he can express a whole emotion with just a single note is phenomenal. No guitarist does feeling as well as Gilmour, and that's a fact

  • nowhere near the best guitar solo. but he IS the best guitarist. solo's in Mother and comfortably numb put this to shame though

  • Clapton, Slash, Blackmore, Van Halen, Hendrix, and Knopfler take turns delivering DAVID GILMOUR's newspaper on their bicycles each day.

  • Haha. Brilliant :)

  • Gilmour is THE BEST, hands down.

  • I don't know, because there are a lot of great guitar players, for example Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante, Rory Gallagher, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour of course, Slash, Eric Clapton... So I think there is no one who's the best, because they're all brilliant. But that's just my opinion^^

  • I know...I think you have to search the best guitarist in a specific contest. For example (I like all of them) Mark Knopfler,Gilmour and Clapton have a similar way to play the guitar and for me David is the best of them. Richie Blackmore and Jimi Hendrix are quite similar(either of them

loved improvising and breaking the patterns of rhythm)but I prefer Blackmore for the technique. Van Halen is better than Slash because nobody before him played the guitar like him and so on...

  • Those other guys couldn't polish David's shoes...

  • There are a subgroup of amazing guitarists, like Guthrie Govan, Brett Garsed, Frank Gambale, Ron Thal, and Greg Howe just to name a few.

  • David has so much more soul in his playing than the soulless Vai. And without soul you are just making noise...

  • [you make me laugh.]

    Like I care.

[dont pretend you know what soul, or A soul is.]

    I am not pretending.

[soul has nothing to do with music]

Soul is at the essence of any artistic form of expression.

  • bullshit

  • I wish there were no worthless, mouthy fucks like you on youtube. people leave comments about the ARTIST, or SONG. But stupid bastards like you think you know everything about everything. stupid-ass

  • What you said? :|

    The "Soulless Steve vai" ??

    Dude, come on... :S:S:S:S

Steve vai has a lot of soul in his playing, just as an enormous technique aswell!

Steve was considered the best guitarrist alive, just listen to "For the love of God", "Lotus Feet", "Tender Surrender",...

  • Robert:

See what I just said to copperbomb.

  • SOULLESS!? dude you're picking on the wrong guitarist... pick on someone who just shreds, but steve vai!? have you heard the sound theories cd with the orchestra!? i think not, go buy the fuckin dvd and tell me vai doesn't have soul when he plays. not saying david has more or less, but dont fuckin talk shit about vai

  • Keep on talking copperbomb as you only reveal your blind acceptance of the notion that number of notes = great playing rather than what is said with the notes played. Vai has technical tools but the problem with people like that is they neglect the aspects of playing which truly round someone out and make them a master of expression.

Refined vibrato, pacing, knowing what not to play and when to build tension, etc.: all areas where Vai has nowhere near Gilmour's manifested capabilities.

  • It was cute how he apologeticly smiled and sang the verses in reverse order. And the solo was just great, his licks with just those few tones as well as everything else fits perfectly into your ears and makes piece and calm.

  • everyone is human, he forgot the sencond verse, oops. concentrating on the pedalboard, playing guitar and singint taxies the mind. I messed up many a time singing.

  • u know how many songs Floyd has written it is amazing they remember most of them.

  • sorry kingy17 but for me the best solo is in comfortably numb...it is also longer but in any case mr Gilmour is of course the best guitarist ever!!

  • It's difficult to disagree with Pageykid as Comfortably Numb so good. I was lucky enough to see two "Wall" Concerts so I know how good David's CN solo is, but the solo in this performance is one complete solo.

  • What I mean by that is that most solos are made up of a number of "pieces" but this feels like David knew what he was going to play form the start. He was usually at his best when he was relaxed, and this was at the end of his "mini" tour...he had no pressure from "band members", he had not played much until these few gigs and he was able to play this in a very relaxed mood...he plays good then.

  • perhaps not the best, but one of the best ;)

  • who's your favourite?

  • A forgotten gem from the division Bell. To me it is a deeper and more musically and lyricaly expressive album than AMLOR. Though I think "On the Turning Away" is a classic

  • david gilmour 4 ever the best

  • Gilmour is god.

  • good to see them live

  • Slipped Away, Slipped Away....

  • These is slow solo, but really great and wounderfull to listen. But for all fools who dirt Gilmour, listen. The best solos broke out not because they are fast or technicaly great. Gilmour also has fast solos, but better are brick in the wall or somthing with good melody and feel. Why are stairway to heaven and comfortably numb one of best solos? Becouse they are extremly fast? Or maybe sound really nice and enjoyable to listen?

  • Great comments lpavletinet you said it all

  • ooops. Oh well one Fup in 40 years.

  • Fuck. You., Andrewkafp. First off, he prefers DavID. Secondly, it doesn't MATTER in the long run how "Technically" good a musician is, or how fast they shred or whatever, WHAT MATTERS IS what they say through their music and DavID Gilmour (and all of Pink Floyd for that matter) have said some pretty damn good stuff!!!!!

His voice is still great by the way. And his guitar playing is too.

  • the best

  • the guitar is just putty in the hands of a true master

  • Hey this old dude rocks.

  • a great day for listen Gilmour

  • I'm a novice guitar player and I recently started watching videos of guitar players on youtube. After watching videos of people like Paul Gilbert or Steve Vai basically masturbating with their guitars, it awesome to see someone like David Gilmour show what can truly be done with it. Granted, as a lifelong Floyd fan, I'm definately biased.

  • You can learn technical stuff in a few months. But to play with as much emotion as Gilmour, takes MUCH MUCH longer.

  • Nah, you're not right. It's quite simple to match level of most of all shreders, but to write musik like Dave Gilmour - it's realy rare. Search in youtube how many people plays like vai and how many plays like Gilmour.

  • to andrewkafp- it's easier maybe if you're referring to covering their songs simply because of how fast those guys play. Gilmour's music, songwriting, and solos are much more timeless than those musicians you listed, whose approach to music is more kin to sportsmanship than creativity through sounds. Sometimes less is more.

  • i think i prefer the album the division bell to dark side of the moon. this song is amazing. Gilmour in my opinion is the greatest singer/guitarist ever.if you like this song you should check out lost for words and coming back to life.

  • I love how anyone who disses Gilmour gets owned in future comments. Like who can beat Gilmour? Everything he creates has so much feeling.

  • right there with ya, kid

  • er wheres the strat baby?

  • actually.. my father in law has a pretty big library of just different classic rock stuff from 70s and 80s and "the police" is in there, and he likes them occasionally..but personally myself...I honestly cannot handle stings annoying grating strange almost falsetto voice.. peter cetera is in my voices I LOOOAAAATHE list for the same reason.cant stand dudes whose register is just a little weirdly high.. tommy shaw and Getty lee are in there too.. the bands are fine..but the voices kill me.

  • Haha, I loved his face when he realized he messed up. Gilmour's the best though, what can I say. Amazing solo.

  • Yeah, definitely one of his better solos - very inspiring, and the writing for this song is very good. However, I think if you're a pretty avid Floyd/Gilmour fan, you know he screwed up (I'm asuming it wasn't intention) on the second verse. He sang the same set of lyrics twice. The song definitely isn't written that way... lol But still good solo at the end.

  • huh? I acknowledge the greatness of the song and his original solo, then honestly comment this is not his best performance - not even close - and I suddenly don't have a brain?? OK, dad....I have a feeling I know a bit more about it than you, but more power to ya

  • Sorry about the comment above CrunchThyme, I think I had drank too much sauce when I made it ! Music's about opinions at the end of the day...

  • david is the best teacher how to play guitar

    Pink Floyd nr1

  • Crunch,

I agree. David has done a lot better than this. And frankly I find the post-Waters Floyd stuff overall to be stuff I cannot listen to very often. Nonetheless, this is still a good solo and David's sense of dynamics is amazing.

  • i would agree that the album version of this is his best solo, but this performance is a little off

  • You have either got something wrong with your ears or your brian ! ! THIS IS THE BEST !

  • not many can play with such subtlety, restraint and sound so bluesy yet so english,a guitarists guitarist, love ya dave, pink floyd total genius no one comes close.

  • thanks kingy17 for uploadin this...i am a great fan of Sir David Gilmour...i think cj933's comments arent even arguable..love the song..

  • I first saw David play live in 1974 and I think this is his best ever solo - and that is saying something !

  • Gilmour is a rare jewel. Excellent solo. I would give it 5 stars myself.

  • cj3393, ur a knob, and i bet u suck knob too.

    You dont beat gilmour.

  • Good coment kingy17

  • great solo, not sure about the facial expressions though !!

  • who gives a crap about " facial expressions' .. YOU sing and perform as well as Dave and one or two things happen.. YOU will have some " facial expressions" and or you will have such a huge devoted fan base that loves your talent and music, that no one will even notice or give a crap about them .... because theyre PART OF SINGING.

  • omg and some ppl think this guys better than jimi hendrix shittttt! fuck no. this music makes me wanna turn gay .

  • If you don't like this, then you must be gay !

  • You wanna turn gay?! XD

  • so what do you listen to? crappy immature metal? or crappy uninspired rap?

  • I love your pseudonym...dazed and confucious lol

  • wow you need a pickle to suck on eh gaywad?

  • must have worked then huh?

  • Stay lost fool. When you figure it out, then come back an listen to floyd
