The earthquake thing is completely true, I live in Canterbury, New Zealand where the Christchurch earthquakes happened and are still happening. During the last major quake my mother was on the phone to my grandmother and she heard her freak out a good couple of seconds before we felt earthquake where we were.

a friend of mine was telling me a story about a friend of her fathers who survived the attack. He worked in the twin towers & there was a man selling food from a cart outside. Every morning he went there and bought something, so he & the man became friends and then the morning before the attack the man at the stand said "you work hard, take the morning off" & convinced him to leave. Turns out that man at the stand was a terrorist but he saved that man's life because they had become friends

Thats crazy! I was just thinking about that the other day. Imagine if people were tweeting their final words, or where they were or even if they were ok and they are with such and such. Imagine how many more lives maybe could have been saved or how they would have been able to contact their families in the hope of saying goodbye. What you're saying is very true. During the attacks on Norway this summer I kept my father up to date (he was being evacuated from one a building close to where the bomb went off) by checking all the news sites and seeing what other people were saying. So definitely social media played an important role - also for letting people know that you are okay.
