will any power supply fit into any computer please help i have a hp pavilion verde se a6645f and i need a new power supply because im getting a new graphics card HELP PLEASE
I have 250 w stock in my hp desktop but the onboard video card is no good so I got a visiontek 1 gb pci express x 16 card, but it says needs a minimum of 400 w power supply, so do I need to get a new power supply, do all of them fit same size? my comp is a hp p6627c.
@newnoob I've got stock 256 MB DDR1 ram (Not even DDR2! have to pay extra for just RAM!) a crappy Intel GFX card with a whopping 64mb of video ram in it, an Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz (The only good part of the whole thing. Lol!) single core, some stock decent audio card (which is good, I would NEED a new one.)and an 80 GB hard drive. Beat that! :P And, not everyone can afford an awesome gaming computer, let alone needs one, so, no one cares how bad it is compared to yours, don't boast. No one cares.
@newnoob2009 oh and by the way im 14 and my parents didnt buy me this... beast of a computer... i stopped being lazy and went to get a job and i did. so i got 900 and got an early christmass present of 200 bucks so i made that thing.
@newnoob2009 Not expensive? LOL! how is 1200 bucks not expensive? What do you do for a living? You must make a lot of money for that to be considered inexpensive. And, yes that's my computer, wanna buy me a new one? You're more than welcome to. :P Ok... I know it does, I didn't say it didn't, I just told you not to brag and that the computer in the video isn't the worst, mine is and I'm proud of it. :P
THE MOTHERBOARD CONNECTOR WONT BUDGE. im about to take a knife and pry it out because im yankin it my hardest and pushing down the tab with my the my hardest. PLEASE HELP
i have a dell dimmension 8400 and the psu went up in smoke. i was thinking about getting a 400 watt psu to replace the fried 300 watt thats in there now. will this fry my mother board? should i get a 300watt instead?
@MLGProXBuddy175X No it won if you get a 400 watt psu it will only take what it needs in your case only 300 watts. So you could get it. It will be better, just in case, you have more wattage.
@killerkid317 Out of curiosity, do you think that I could "transplant" my current power supply which I have in this old 2006 PC (which I am using to type this comment) to a new 2010 PC? You see, my computer is unbelievably slow, so I've been considering getting a new PC. I found a new 2010 model PC and it has some pretty good hardware, except for the power supply. It's power supply is a mere 250 watts, while this one has a power supply of 300 watts. Do you think it's possible?
can i replace my PSU on my dell inspiron 546...del said that it would fry my motherboard if i installed a 400 to 500 watt PSU. should i listen to dell or should i not believe them...
Thats the biggest load of bullshit ive ever heard, the watts is just how much give and take of power to the computer componnets, you could have a 100 watt to a 1000 watt power pack, 400 - 500 seems right for a dell, never believe companys like that, they bully you into believing that you need to buy something really expensive
@ACDCFan15Swe Hey, thats abit of a high wattage, depending on what spec computer your building or have. I'd say anything from a 800 Watt + would suit the job. Components in the machine dont constantly require there maximum wattage (Your 500 -500 watt graphics card), the power pack with give out what is necessary depending on performance and resources being used.
Dell is so much shit :>

Wait so if a graphics card requires like 500w PSU that is what it consumes or its already factored in with the computers requirements?

@MartyHITD Im planning on buying a card that requires around 500-550 watts so how strong should the power supply be?

@MartyHITD "400 - 500 seems right for a dell"??? What an asinine comment! Dell sells computers with radically different power requirements.
