As a teenager (1954) a group of us church kids would go up to Los Angeles to attend the 11 PM Sunday service at Echoes of Eden African American church.
The preacher and choir director sat in large white easy chairs on the platform and the pulpit came out of the floor on a lift.
The first half-hour was on the radio.
I will always remember that massive choir singing "I'm So Glad Jesus Lifted Me". As a new Christian it was quite encouraging.
