Brian was an alcoholic , in that book Steve tell a story .Brian was in june 74 beaten up by some guys after a few drinks in a local bar .They followed and beaten him up , and they kicked him very badly in the throat .This was a disastre , Brian lost the power in his voice and from that moment Steve take over soms lead song It s so sad , you see a man of 45 , very sick .
I went to see Brian and his new band when they visited my country not that long before he died. He was shaking and he screamed out the words and didn't sound too great. But it was incredible no one cared, this was Brian Connoly that we all loved we just sang with him and cheered him on. I was infront of the stage and he kept looking into my eyes not because he was interested in me but it was like it helped him give it everything he had. I love the photos I took that day:)
@MissWitchiepoo do you know that Les Gray was his mate , the both of them drunk theirself till death .I was in my younger life also a big drinker .If i didn r stop in 1987 i did, t sit here anymore .
@walter4092 I know Les Gray was an alcoholic too. I saw him at the same concert as the Sweet that year. I was surprised at how tiny he was and not at all like in his younger days. But that is how it was for these guys back then I think most of them had these problems just think of the Bay City Rollers. It's hard to stop drinking and look at life without the fog, it takes courage and determination and it seems to me that you have both Walter. So good for you!!
R.I.P. Brian you are safe now. But you left behind a legacy and your name will live on. Your fans won,t let you be forgotten, you were the VOICE of Sweet. We will always keep your name alive in music. You were SWEET.
@mozzieanneisme some courage he shows in this vid... he was top of his game and the best looking man by a mile in 1973..........remember him on t.o.t.pops at his best.....r.i.p brian...from paul in birkenhead..

Bit of a shocker. He definitely lost his voice. And the song is called Block Buster - not Blockbuster - just listen to the words.

Brian is my hero. I think this is a pretty good live performance and the programmamakers filmed him with respect if you know what i mean.
I wish the awful docu 'don't leave me this way' had nice respectful footage like this!
