Iraq Is In A State of Civil War. So that means so was Britain when the PIRA was active, and so is Spain today because ETA is still active. Both IRA and ETA are said to be terrorist organizations but this is based on ethnic identity. India also has tribal separatist rebels who are quite active. That's not considered a civil war. This is all about partisans playing with labels for political ends, not accurately describing a terror campaign. The IRA are freedom Fighters.

With all due respect to these knowledge banks, I wonder what would their recommended response be if their country was invaded and institutions destroyed?

What shall a person do if his/her family was killed by US bombing? go to Courts? Media? wait aren't they destroyed already? Of coarse he'll go to extreme measures to revenge. "Every action has equal and opposite reaction"

Let's not forget that the state of Israel was founded by terrorists like David Ben Gurion, Menachim Begin, Yitzak Shamir and Ariel Sharon, all former prime ministers of Israel who conducted terroristic attacks and massacres against native Palestinians and against the British who were trying to maintain order in the region.

The modern state of Israel uses U.S.-made cluster bombs against civilians.

US military will slaughter civilians indiscriminately, torture and rape them (record it to spread terror) to try and show the resistance that this is what will happen if you fight us; this psychological tactic is used to try and break the will of people to resist. there is so much "terrorism" literature that only tries to apply it the official US enemies; its disgusting and dishonest intellectual culture. the issue would be better served by examining the terrorism of US and its effect.

"unfortunate damage" of civilian deaths is a purposeful action. purposeful bombing of a village in afghanistan with civilians in it is an intended killing of civilians in order to eliminate political/military rivals. calling it "unfortunate damage" is just confusing the issue and ignoring the choices taken by US forces to take civilians lives to sustain there conquest. terrorism is one of the main US/israeli military tactics in iraq/palestine in order to try and break the will of resistance.

It's disgusting that you virtually never hear that "Shock and Awe" is clearly and explicitly terror. The idea isn't exactly clouded! "We will engage in huge, destructive acts to terrify the population such that they will do what we tell them." It's one of the clearest examples of terrorism in history. And agree with it or not - whether you accept the ends, or the means in the service of those ends - that's what it is.
