A couple months ago I found the chrods to "He Stopped Loving Her Today", I played the song a couple times and I could hardly sing it as I was crying, but I kind'a liked the feeling, and it made me want to get drunk. Now today I just found the words and chords to "Turn Around", you know it did the same thing to me, I cried a bit and it felt good. I was born in 1956...thank you Harry Belafonte, Malvina Reynolds and Alan Greene. Cheers k
I have always loved this song. His voice was perfect for this. When my daughter got married I had poster sized pictures of her made from different times of her life and hung them around the room. My daughter and her Dad danced to this and there wasn't a dry eye in the place.
laeryl23: have you listened to this radical old looney lately? he sounds like a shit salesman with a mouth full of samples. he's as relevant as ol' jim-boy carter.
@rte66byhd Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether others agree with it or not. No matter what he believes, it doesn't take away from his career. He will never be washed up, no matter how many people take cheap shots at him. Songs like this are still moving people generations later and will continue to do so.
Song my dad played for me and that I sang to my three daughters. Harry Belafonte had such a wonderful voice. Great performer, great stage presence. Thank-you for the memories = )
he came straight over to me crying and put his arms around me and his head on my neck and whispered did I just leave our daughter on the floor and I told him it was ok because her new husband with tears in his eyes was there ti catch her when she ran into his arms crying. 'there was a standing ovation after that while everyone was crying. THANK YOU FOR PUTING THIS ON
O MY, O MY, O MY!!! For THIS I, as the father of three married moms, have searched for YEARS, hoping. . . I knew it was on this album, which I once owned, but at a time of despair I left behind me, regretting it, and a lot else, to this very day 08/28/2011. Tonight I thought I'd look again. I found the old Kodak Ad, but i KNEW WHAT I WANTED was from Belafonte's "Love is a Gentle Thing"--the title track. THANK YOU, BLESS YOU. DFG (Do you have Belafonte's "Scarlet Ribbons"?)
i love this song . i have sung this to my 2 girls and now sing it for grand children and great grand children.. i hope this song never dies as others have.
It's hard to believe the same Malvina Reynolds who wrote that piece of crap "Little Boxes" also wrote this lovely song.( I remember it as a Kodak commercial.)
I like Josh White Jr.'s version of this best, but only because it's the one I first heard and loved. Harry's is beautiful too. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. Nothing can stop it. My baby is 12 now.
Such a lovely song. Just listened to 83 year old Harry B at the huge rally, on Democracy Now (oct 4, 2010). Wonderful speech, particularly the what we could do with all the war money, lives, everything. Great old Harry!
My Dad sings this to me at random moments and I start crying every time....

Please credit the songwriter: the great Malvina Reynolds, who also wrote 'Little Boxes,' the first-ever protest song against suburban sprawl.
