The idea was that, throughout the video she was having fun (small choreography segement) and being wild (pole dancing segement) and, although she was killing off 'Britney' (quite literally) - the idea was that you never really knew which one was the real her anyway. All the press and the people were holding the 'funeral' for her (metaphor for her media portrayal), yet she had a few more tricks up her sleave and - at the end of it - could just kick back happily as the drama unfolds around her...

@thef I think that you have probably hit the nail on the head there!! Far safer in those concerning days to release a sure-fire hit video featuring just Britney dancing and being saucy around a pole than some twisted, disturbing video featuring her own surreal funeral. I differ in that I wish it HAD been released in its original entirety - I think it would've been such a striking, memorable statement (The Britney I fell in love with doesn't know the meaning of the word 'safe' regarding music)

@thefloacist But you're right. Given how unpredictable she was in those days and how in danger her life seemed, it might have seemed like a highly irresponsible choice to have released the original video if - as many feared - the *worst* had happened.

However, those days are LONG gone & she is a thousand times better in every possible sense... it would be a real treat for fans to see her original concept now. There's probably all sorts of legal, behind-the-scenes stuff preventing it though :(

This is what I don't get. If that whole concept was true (and I'm not saying it isn't, I mean it could be true, but who knows?), then why would they film the pole scene using the full song? Wouldn't they would use a part of the song and move on? But instead she used the whole song.

Each scene (especially dancing and close-ups) are done several times over - and the whole song is usually done so that they can keep cutting back and forth to that scene when editing the video together. If example, the diamond/body suit part in Toxic... That's what (sadly) made it easy to just fill the whole video with that one scene. If you're interested, most of these have been released online (Oops! Toxic, ...Baby One More Time, Slave etc)

The video used to be at YouTube, but it was taken down like, just after it was uploaded. I think that they didn't release it due the death scene. Why? Simple: Everyone thought that Britney would die because of the problems.

Since it was Spears' pure concept, I have some theories to references in the video:

1- The man that realizes that none of the Britneys that he saw was actually Britney: Reference to the mysterious Original Doll, Britney's album that talked about the "Britney wannabes" that appeared since her arrival in music?

2-The Black-Haired Britney kills the Blonde one: Simbolizing that a new Britney is in the scene?

3-Going to a dark club with a stripper: Reference to the crazy days with Hilton and Lohan?
