Punks usually are the biggest sellouts, despite always talking the talk more than artists of any other musical genre. Iggy "Smash the system, but make sure you're covered for the damage costs incurred" Pop, John 'Discovery Channel' Lydon and Alexei "was a communist, but will voice over any ad you want for cash" Sayle are three of the most annoying ones.

As much as punk changed music, it's mostly just NME-approved posturing. The much maligned prog acts had/have way more integrity and balls.

It's not about money and it's not about him trying to sell us a product. But, man, put a shirt on, sit behind a desk and do it. Gyrating half-naked like he did on-stage when he was twenty, scandalizing crowds, is simply turning himself into a caricature. What was once sexy, dionysian, provocative performance is now reduced to a harmless, limp marketing tool. Unless it's meant as some sort of self-depricating, ironic humour. Sure, times have changed but still, some things should be held sacred.

I just watched Iggy's most recent Letterman appearance. Very hard to watch. It was Iggy trying to be Iggy in all the wrong places--bad moves all labored and weak. His most recent CD, Préliminaires, was a good way for him to shift gears and get away from the 40 year old and younger Iggy persona--like Robert Plant has done over the past few years...easing off the 25 year old Plant moves and screams. Your point is well taken. Shirt on, mellowed out Iggy is what we should hope for--or demand
