@Sneak1in CFLs can't be too close unless they're touching, this guy has way too many tho so the heat from all of them in close proximity was hurting the plants, not the light itself.

@Israeli3030 2-3 inches away is ideal, and with proper ventilation you will not burn the plants. if he would have kept them at that distance from the beginning he would not have such long spaces between his nodes.

the reason none of the pros like cfls is because. well there huge for starters., massively bulky. and akward.. tons of cords etc.. and there much more fragile. hps bulbs are surprisingly durable.. with cfls the ballast is in there too.. that adds another 15 percent heat.,. and you need 40 percent more fluoro to equal the same light output that any given hps has...if cfls are all you have by all means they do work well but the weight is usually less and the speed of plant growth is often slower.

@rootbound420 if you know how to do some basic wiring, you can set up your own fixture that has just one cord. too many cords is not a valid argument as there are many ways around it. and in a small box like this, hes better off with cfls. an hps lamp in that box would be retarded and put out way too much heat. even with ten cfls in a small box, with proper ventilation it wont be nearly as hot as an hps lamp. and its often surprising what you can accomplish with cfls in terms of yield.

by the looks of it. those blue lights on the top dont look like they belong there.. lol.. i can see its hitting mostly just the top of the light hood but...... yea you dont want any light in there at all. if possible.. even if you have a fan or thermometer that has a light on it or whatever.. tape over it... and that cabinet is perfectly large enough for a 150 watt hps you could even do a 250 air cooled in that

all this needs is a screen and it could yeild more than any one of you guys talking like you know. CFLs have better colour spectrum than hps and with combination of coloured bulbs this could easily pull more than a few ozs per crop only if a scrog screen is used might i add.

You need more space for flowring! They double triple their size during that time.. that's why if ur going to do it from start to finish in their you need to flower them much earlier.. like at week 3 or 4 of veg good luck! :]

@whyUspeakin hahaha any 6500k bulb will vedge a plant dude, the only light you need to spend alot of money on is a HPS or HID bulb for flowering...anything else used besides fluorescents for vedging though is a waste of money on the electric bill and and the cost of a HID 6500k bulb is ridic;ulous, $ 70.00 and up for a fucking bulb...you should get your shit straight...CFL's are no different than a T-5 fluorescent light fixture..

@imcrzy4me i do not disagree that cfls are fine in veg. that being said i would rather run a 400 watt hps to veg with. you can get one with the bulb for $150. $20 for a bulb. i use fluorescent in veg sometimes but i also give them sun and hps when i can. btw a t-5 IS a fluorescent. point being.. cfls are the bare minimum, growing in a 2ft box is redundant, there is real ppl that is passionate about growing and wonders why any1 would want to show this weak shit online.
