  • I got this for Christmas in 1980 along with an Atari 2600 and Space Invaders At the age of Nine I never had the patience to build the thing My friend who used to come around built loads of other cool things out of it with moving parts I guess he was more technically minded It was a cool toy though

  • I always that the distributor cap was cool!

  • I will upload the building manual directly (pdf) if i've found one in an good state, got one somewhere but in an terrible state after 25 years in an box where kids played with, kept the fully assembled 8860 out of the box.

  • Have one fully assembled, didn't touch it for more than 25 years, only 1 piece missing, piece is still available atm. Piece probably lost in my mother's vacuum cleaner at that time... :P. It's an grey (roof) block at the front. The rubbers for the movable chairs are broken, still got building manual but no box. Thinking of buying an other one to make this one complete. The rest is for sale to get another person happy.

  • I still have this kit I'm going to give it to my son when he is older

  • @mixsetup I already did the same! :)

  • Yes, is was my first Lego Technik Modell. I have 2 until i sell them cause of my studium. Nowadays i remember it, and wanna buy it at ebay. It was the best Lego Technik car ever.

  • I got this for Christmas 1981 and found it in the attic today. It was in quite a few parts, I'd previously thought my (much younger) brother had destroyed it. I've just watched this and realised how the bits should go together. It's followed me thousands of miles and several relocations, all that's missing is the rubber band on the fan and now I can't part with the thing!

  • I have exact the same car :)

  • oh i remember christmas 1985! best present ever lol. it took all of christmas day to build but worth it.

still have it in its box. will never part with it :)

  • I had this set, I would love to be able to find it some where for sale

  • My second set in 1981 after the gokart. BTW Your compression is very low in one cylinder.

  • is it possible to make it RHD?

  • @Vassilika1 Yes, of course.

  • @vonsmallhausenPL

    I know, I was just kidding ;-)

I had this Car as one of my first Lego Technic back in the early 80's. Always loved the real differential, and the inner front-wheel that takes the smaller radius than the outer front wheel, recent technic cars don't do that.

A piytty I gave alle my Lego away when I was 16 :-(

    Today I bought this one (8860) again, can't wait to rebuild it. (I'm 38 now :-) )

    cheers, Chris

PS: sorry my grenglish, frenglish, germish, what ever....

  • @Vassilika1 Yeh, dead easy, just take the wheel off from the left, move the steering column to the right, refit the steering wheel, that's all there is to it :-)

I have this set still in my loft, got it new for Christmas many moons ago.

I made many many variations of this model combining several other lego sets withit to make a full roof, rear seats, doors and even a working slide and tilt sunroof!

    Ahh, the memories :-)

  • @R1CH130

It was a joke... ;-) I have Lego Technic since 1984, also the 8860 :-)

  • nice. this was my first technic set and i loved it! if i remember rightly when building the gearing system they had intended to add an extra gear (3 instead of 2?) but obviously decided it would be too complex, however some of the steps/parts were left in unnecessarily/by mistake which made it a bit cramped. i enjoyed seeing a "mistake" in a lego set. i think you could also add a motor i the grey box on the front. it does look properly old school now!

  • @metubenow It's correct that it has three gears, but only two in the finished model. The reason is the gearing, First gear, the one that isn't used in the regular instruction, put quite a strain on the gears when you just roll the kit by hand. But if you put an electric motor in the kit, the first and second gears will be used and third gear will be blocked so you don't overheat the motor. It's all in the instructions, IIRC.

  • This model was bought for my brother in the eairly 80s and we always had trouble with the gearing system. I'm now trying to go about restoring it and was wandering if anyone could give me any advice as to how I might be able to resolve the above issue.

  • @Hassles100 i had the same problem it shifts lousy or shifts i9nto 2 gears at once what i did all the small cogs in the gearbox i made slimmer so there is a bit more space between the gears and i also use modern gears cos they are much stronger and the shift better for the teeth on those gears are less sharp

  • I have two boxes of it!!!!

  • if any 1 has 1 of these i would love to buy it plz plz

  • anyone know where i can get the instructions to re-build it

  • I have them still got original kit all boxed and in tact can e mail you a scanned copy if want. Just have to get it down from the loft were it has been for 20 years

  • Check your inbox. :]

  • I loved that set, just made a song called 'technic lego chassis rap' and googling your video made me wish I'd never lost it.

  • A real classic. I love how it is actually composed of bits and pieces rather than the modern LEGO cars where the body work are large blocks and units.

  • I was hoping someone else would feel the same way I do! I completely Agree with you. My Aunt Turned me on to Expert Builder Legos in 1980 when I got my first GO-Cart Set #948.After I got that I went on to get 948,956.I always wanted to get the 954,8858,8860. Any way I think that the LEGOS that they are making now are composed of those Block and unit and you are only able to make 1 thing like the "Specialty legos-Star wars, and movie related ones." These expert builder required more ingenuity.

  • wow

    nice work!

  • that is a very cool car

  • i remember when i got this for christmas when i was a kid and i pet dog bit into some of the components,it was upsetting to say the least, but now i have it back in all its glory on this video, cheers for the upload

  • make a chassis to it then it's cooler

  • It is a chassis you doofus.

  • Srry i meant a body

  • boxer engine :P this is like Porsche:)

  • arent you missing a piston?

  • i have the next model, the red car whit suspension on front

Whit the black dogz on the end, lol.

  • i got one too but my brother broke it

  • I had one too - totally excellent

  • IS THAT 4 WHEAL DRIVE

  • ...no jsut look at it. thers no C.V. shaft or annything connecting to the front wheels

  • Samochód fajny, tak samo pies mam takiego samego.

  • I got that car about 23 years ago. I still have it. The best lego set ever.

  • 24 x 43 :P
