What`s your take on ratio of front squat to back squat for weight and volume in training and do you confirm a german rule in training- competition WL should be able to front squat his/her best clean for three reps...
ive seen several different exercise videos by california strength but i have to say the squat ones are usually my favorite due to better form than the others - the squat ones have pretty good form and they at least go into the "pit" with heavy weights too - very tiring and tough..
@aminoacids13 In that workout he did 3 sets of 5 with 200kg. His best weight for 5 reps is 210kg. we plan to try to break that next week or the week after.
glen- this may be impossible for you to answer via youtube message, but it's worth a shot. how are olympic lifters able to squat with such frequency? it seems that your guys are squatting many times a week? Is this correct? after i squat it feels that my knees need a couple days of recovery? how does your team avoid the sore knees and still squat??
@shuls89 the guys are only squatting 4 days per week right now, because of the sets of 5. When we drop the sets of 5 we will go more often. Frequency isnt much of a problem for most people as long as the reps and volume are low. The sets of 5 will kill you though if you do them too often.
Just started 5x5 training (power lifts); today it was dead lifts. Will be working in front squats (5x5) in the next few days. In your opinion, how often can one perform 5x5 front squats, allowing for optimum recovery and overall progress?
Coach I really like to do ATG squats but my lower back starts to round at the bottom. Any ideas how to correct this ? flexibility, strengthen certain muscles ?
That would not be good for an Olympic weightlifter. For us, it is best to stay as upright as possible, same as most who use the squat to become better athletes.
is that jared enderton from average broz?!

Jared looks like he is lifting the most per pound bodyweight, is that correct?
torelli 10 months ago
@torelli no, he and Jon weigh about the same, with jared probably weighing 1-2 kilos more. They did their sets with the same weight this week.

Awesome. Keep filming the squat work!

@CaliforniaStrength Is that why oly lifters always use high bar for back squats? I always just thought high bar was used for better depth.

@bigarnold74 send me a video to glennpendlay@yahoo.com of you squatting and I will be happy to take a look at it.
CaliforniaStrength 10 months ago
@bigarnold74 Assuming your posture is correct. It may be psoas/hamstring flexibility related.
