All right, I admit, this song was the very first 45 single I ever purchased, age 10, purchased at Singer Sewing Machines, Los Angeles. In addition to sewing machines, they sold new 45 records. It was 99 cents.
This is exactly what I had in mind. Thanks for the great job You're right about this being different than the Groovy Ghoulies version but I did both versions. I have a new version of the song that I'm just getting started with but I think I need this videographer.
Haven't heard this song in ages!!!! Yes I still love it!!! Putting it on my playlist for 71. Check out my channel, and let me know what you think. Thanks for posting!
yeah that is where i first heard this song! the groovy ghoulies!! remember all those great cartoons that had music with them like this cartoon and the archies, the jackson 5 and osmond cartoons, scooby doo and the others!
Gotta love Youtube!!! Well, the cool people that use Youtube!!! LOL Thanks a million!!! I was 9 yrs old then and remember hearing this song. Didn't know what 'they' were singing about, but it's great to SEE IT!!!!
In response to garageband66, this nuzo song was VERY popular in I believe '71. It went up to #3 or so, at least in the WABC countdowns back then. Dontcha jus' miss this kinda stuff?
Growing up in the 70's.........yea BABY. I did love it and still do. The 70's was the best 10 year era in Rock music ever. thanks for a great memory song !
Actually, Garageband66, the original "Groovy Goolies" version of this song DID mention about "a girl in a black bikini". The "girl" was Witch Hagatha and the "bikini" was actually an 1890's-style bathing suit!!
Man, this is one of my favoritist songs of all time, and I love your video!! Of course, when I picture this song I do it alot more risque'! I've been working on a script for some years now for a live-action movie of MAD magazine's "Spy vs Spy" that will be rated "R" and have plenty of comedy, music, sex, drugs, violence, language, nudity, etc.! In two of the scenes, The Lady Grey Spy sleeps with first The White Spy, then The Black Spy, and in both scenes, "Chick-A-Boom" is the song played!
WOW - Talk about bringing back childhood memories! I loved this song when I was in 4th Grade! I remember it was played quite a bit on Dr. Demento a few years later. Thanks for the memories! And thanks for the pics too!!!
I bought the record "Chick-A-Boom too! Not when it first came out, but more recently-I found a copy of the original single, backed with "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmitt" last summer at a resale! Amazing what kind of treasures you can find when you shop at garage sales and thrift stores!!
OMG, I think that's the original 45 I heard in 1971 when I was ten years old, and an older cousin had to "entertain" me for the afternoon...so he played this record! Assume the B side was by the same artist? god, what a trip...I'm so old...!!
Aww...I don't think you're that old! You can't be much that older than me! I'm in my 40's and I don't think I'm old! Just ol enough to be able to brag about being around when some of these great classics first came out! I found a copy of of this single about 6 months ago at a resale. On the "B" side is "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmitt" also by Daddy Dewdrop. In the very unlikely event that you are not familiar with this song, it's an old campfire favorite.
Didja know that the FIRST time the masses heard this ditty was NOT the Daddy Dewdrop version on radio...but on Saturday Morn TV..as 'the song of the week' on an animated programme called "The Groovie Ghoulies", and played by soemthing called "The Rolling Headstones".
I saw Neil's interview for his latest album, he looked kind of feeble and needed direction getting on and off the stage but seemed better while performing. Is Tom still with the band?
Yes, he's still with the band. They are probably just coming on the stage right now in Omaha for the 4th concert of their North American tour. You can go to Tom's web site, diamondville daht com, for tour updates.
1972, I would have been in the second grade, I used to love watch the Groovy Ghoulies back in the day

@rog2002 Not quite. Other than the fact the last verse is a bit different, the Groovie Goolies version had a "weird computer" behind the first door.
