I don't know how she sounded live, but her vocalization is some of the most beautiful ever heard. She is very musical, and has one of the most beautiful vibratos bar none. A truly beautiful voice and technique. Her "Queen" is as good as any and more beautiful than 99% of the coloraturas out there today.
Since this song is on a Spanish subject, by a French composer, there is already considerable pastiche taking place. There is nothing particularly "Viennese" about Streich's singing here, and the tune has NOTHING to do with Seville; it concerns CADIZ. LOL
More Vienna than Seville (or Paris) here, that's for sure, but who can resist such exquisite vocalization, such gentle charm? One of the loveliest of singers.
Love her diction, and what a lovely voice! Hurrah for Rita Streich!

I love Delibes!
Did you know that Les Filles de Cadix was written for a solo vioce?
One of the only operas ever composed for one singer.
Rita Streich sings this so perfectly.
Thanks for posting!

Fabulous. No one sings this piece like this today. Her diction is even better than that of native french-speaking singers.
