  • i meant to say it only had an intake, header, stock exhaust in my previous comment. but yeah. we dont need boost or nitrous, and we dont need to swap motors either. but it actually cost less to mod a honda to be faster than a V8. unless its an old domestic car that isnt worth anything, so its cheap, then yeah, that one would be cheaper to make faster.

It takes boost for your 4cyl to equal my 8cyl. I also had transmission work done and gears to handle the torque after ls6 Intake mani, ebay headers, vortec aluminum high flow heads(ported), 223 dur cam with ls7 rods and lifters, banks ram air intake, diablo sport tune.

  • @killtankbts a k20a2 in my 00 civic coupe, when it only had an intake, and "swap header" (which is really restrictive, and made to have the swap complete), and stock exhaust, had me beatng 05-09 and 2010 GT's. i beat my friends 07 GT by about 3-4 car lengths to 150 MPH, and i wanst topped out. i know there is more to tuning a car. are you stupid? do you know what the argument was about? i dont think so. some idiots think we have to have a turbo, or we HAVE to swap motors to beat a V8.

  • @killtankbts you know what most k20 and bolt-ons to 00 and below year civics do in a quarter mile? mostly LOW 13's. some are doing high 12's with a full interior k20 swapped civic that only has bolt-ons and a tune. thats just intake, header, exhaust + tune. one is a 99-00 Si with 210whp who ran 12.9. one is a 93 hatch with 214whp that ran 12.8. most k20's with bolt-ons and a tune make 220whp and with the intake manifold from an 06-10 Si, can make 230whp.

  • @killtankbts thats what i was saying. we dont need a turbo to beat a V8. we may swap motors, but we dont need to do that either. we could also build our original motors. theres all motor singlecams running 9's. thats all N/A. no nitrous being used either.

    but when i was losing power, and dynoed 184whp, i was raping cobalt SS/SC's. ive even walked the turbo ones. to the wheels, they only make ~235whp. and they weigh over 400lbs more. i got an exhaust (still restricitve, and dynoed 204whp now.

I don't need a 3rd vehicle since I have my s-10 to get me to and from work and the Silvy to play in although I have been thinking about purchasing a 06 GTO and letting my girlfriend have the s-10.   • @joescivic I don't like fords but the 2011 gt is a beast! Its not my dick it little hahaha I just think the cars are annoying. Nothing beats the sound and torque of the rumbling muscle of a v8. My first car was a Geo metro, saved up and bought a 91 camaro retired police interceptor and since then I can't go back to a 4cyl unless its a putter to get back and fourth to work. I can respect any car that goes fast. I think ricers give you guys a bad name.

  • cobalts are some pretty quick cars, i got a 07 ls coupe with stock everything, on a roll at 100 or so you pull it out of drive into low and it runs real good. race all kinds of poeple, 03 5.9 ram, civics and even run with a 04 gt in which in my opinion is slow for a stang, got pummeled by a c5 z06 vette

  • @syphrus23 actually its pretty quick,i raced a Saturn don't know what kind of car it was but it had twin cam written on the side, raced on a 10 roll, i run with him to 70 mph than he walked off and left me but that is a friend of mines car. mustangs are just slow, not enough horse and to heavy

  • @rmf09020 Mines an 04 stock model with the same engine as the cobalts 2.2L. Acceleration for my car is close to the 2.4L speed. Its slow but it's still an economy car.

  • @syphrus23 my car has light tires and runs on ethanol(flex fuel pump) and haven't had no 4 cylinder or a v6 to run with me yet besides a 300hp twin cam Saturn but i have a set of all terrain tires for winter i use too

Friend of mine has a 2009 zr1 vette, fastest car ill ever ride in. 640 hp 604 pound foot torque and weighs 3300 pounds, does 96 mph in 2nd gear but costs 103 grand s0 ill just stick with the camaro ss

  • dude an automatic w a big stall and shift kit doesnt shift hard at all. i had a 91 formula firebird w a 350 rocket in it w a 700/r-4 trans and 3k stall and shift kit and everytime it would shift gears it would throw my damn soda bottle out of the cup holder.

  • yea and at the line when u launched it u gave it gas to torque you ring and pinion gear white holding the brake...in a standard u hold the clutch at a launch and when u slam gears with out a clutch like real driver do u break shit..autos are smooth. thats what i ment.

Meaning I have twice as much potential. You could slap a turbo on your riceburner....if you want to keep up with my car when it is stock.   • agostini90, running a 13.0 on 13 psi is terrible either your car is screwed up terribly or you cant drive right. I put very little money into my 06 Mustang GT and am already in the mid 12s. Remember it goes stiffen, suspension, then power no point in getting ridiculous HP if you cant get it to the ground.

  • i think for a 2 litre 4 cylinder 13.0 is not that bad. and im workin on suspenstion and tires and a stock mustand is in the 13's so i belive u do run 12's and dont get me rong im not saying mustangs are garbage and all i love them all i said was why automatic and every one started to freek out, i dident mean no harm.

  • alright I was worried I was dealing with a fan boy here. Mines a stick shift with a hurst short shifter and t handle but most drag cars are automatic since launching with a manual can be pretty difficult because it makes your times fairly inconsistent.

  • Although i drive a cobalt auto, and it runs low 13's, high 12's. You're theory on twice as much potential is somewhat...wrong.

    Building up a 4cyl can make just as much/more than a v8. However, building a v8 could make even more.

    All depends on how much money you want to spend.

    I drive a auto, hurt my knee when in the Marines. I cant work a stick longer than 15min at a time before it wants to give out on me.

  • @soccerbuff12002 you dont necessarily need boost to keep up with a v8. a k20 in a eg is plenty to smoke a mustang gt. funny that you think just because it has four more cylinders it has twice the potential. just remember with extra cylinders comes extra weight. so a v12 has three times the potential of a i4? power to weight ration is the key. imo.

  • @Cisco121490 yep, but not just the "EG", but also my EJ8 2000 civic coupe.all it had was my k20a2, and intake, header, exhaust. beat many 05-09 and a couple 2010 GT's. and 1 with full bolt-ons. my friends 07 GT with pypes lost by about 3-4 car lengths. thats when i was losing power from my stock exhaust being smaller than the RSX-S exhaust, and it only dynoed 184whp. basically what a stock k20a2 makes to the wheels. i now got an exhaust (still restrictive), and it dynoed 204whp.

    It doesnt take alot of money to make an "auto" fast.

    Its cheaper(in some, not all) on transmissions to do performance rebuilds than it is to put in a high end clutch.

    Auto = Perfect Shifts Every Time, No worries of missing a gear.

    Its just personal preference.

  • That poor guy in the cobalt spent way to much money for his I only spent 19,995 because I knew the dealership GM and got mine with way more mods than simple exaust and intake and a little ecu tune. Plus I sold cars and know how buy a car without getting ripped off. At least I can drive my car and know that I have a nice fast car that I didn't get ripped off on and people still come up to me not knowing what kind of car it is because theres not that many of them seen.

  • The Japanese have been doing this forever which is why rice rockets are so popular. They build these engines like this because thats what they have to work with. And soon enough thats all were going to be able to have. The reason they built the 08 cobalt ss turbocharged is because my car supercharged doesn't meet the 08 air restriction laws which are about to get a hell of a lot strictor. The cobalt might be a 2 liter mountain dew bottle but its all about how you charge it and build a engine that small to do what your car with a huge v8 does. Think about that for a second. One of the first things Obama did this week was bypass the fuel restriction law that bush set for 2020 to 2011 which means that your gas guzzler will be history.

  • Are you saying the mustang is the king of the street? Their cool and all but I dont think I'd go that far. Supercharged Cobalts run mid 14s and thats pretty consistent, if not faster, with every Mustang GT up until 2005. And do you remember back in 96-98 when Ford starting using the 4.6? They ran low 15s at best with 215hp. 10 years later and they've still only managed 300hp. The 3 valve 4.6s run respectable times but they aren't untouchable.

  • The 2009 mustang gt will be 400hp. And mine runs 13's consistently....and that is with an auto. If it was a manual I'm sure I would have even faster consistent times.

  • I got my stage 2, Injen intake, Gm touring exaust, with the G85 for 19,995. They even threw in the 3m clear protective bra for the front and the mirrors for free. All in all I'm really happy for my setup because I smoke Piecestangs all day long. Yes I know all about the new mustangs that I beat the shit out of when I worked at the Ford stealership. Piece of shit boxes. Okay if you like driving a fucking slow box through traffic.

  • Good run man. Thanks for giving props to the Cobalt. Its really a decent car, I have one, stage 2 ($1500 installed) and I paid $24,500 new for the car, so for $26,000 I got a quick little car that does high 13's. So I am pretty happy with it. The mustang does about the same with the V8, and there are lots of mods for both. It really depends on what your tastes are.

  • the standard motor has a 2.2 ecotec. the ss s/c has a smaller 2.0 ecotec motor but with a supercharger and better exhaust. it also has a body kit for better downforce but i seriously doubt if it does anything. but the new ss cobalts have turbos

    i have an 2008 ss, i just smoked a camaro z28 today. its super fast. Its an I4 but it packs a punch its light weight and it has 260 hp, smoke any fat heavy v8.

  • Actually, it did look the mustang lost the first time I watched it... There was a glare in the boards... but after watching it a few times, saw otherwise. I agree however that it seems a little awkward that a stock Cobalt (even though it is factory S/C, keeps up with a mustang GT. More power to him though. I have a stock 07 GT myself, and pull 13.8. All I have done is threw a tuner on it. Try adding that soccerbuff... you'll be pullin faster times in NO TIME! :)

  • it gets it up to 415 to the wheels, but the s/c kit itself is $5k, i might sell the car anyways in another year when i finish my degree to join the service so the s/c might not be worth it....plus i lose the warranty

  • you mentioned the new camaro also, well it looks like it isnt coming out til 2010, 2 years before the new 35 mpg standard gas law is coming, yep all cars must be 35 mpg or better out of the factory. Loks like chevy is a bit late, plus by then a stock GT is said to run 12s, which the new big ass heavy camaro will most likely not run.   • its not coming out in 2010.....production starts in november and should to be in dealers by jan/feb 09....but it is going to be a 2010 model....and how the hell do you know if the camaro is going to be heavy? the camaro has ALWAYS out performed the mustang...i never said i didnt respect the mustang by the way...i was just stating MY opinion that is pretty sad that it almost lost to a 4 banger considering the mustang is a V8.
