I am sure the S-300 will work perfectly Russia, but it is very easy to overwhelm any system. All one has to do is launch 1000 missiles and guess what, 900 will land with no problem on target. Yes, 100 of them where shot down but so what, the objective was eliminated. Now, if Russia had 1000, S-300 ready, pehaps, the story line of my example would change,

@jmorello123 Have you forgotten that in a real combat scenario, the Russian forces will have deployed a number of other systems designed to cope with "saturation attacks"? The S-300 would be used only to eliminate "high value targets" targets while systems like the Pantsyr S-1, and Tor M-1 can engage large number of incoming cruise missiles, drones, and combat aircraft at medium ranges. These are available in very large numbers in the Russian military, and are much less expensive.

@IAmOpenMinded I appreciate Ur reply, it was intelligent, however, I just looked up at Wikipedia free Encyclopedia under: “Nuclear weapons and and the United State” and they have roughly 5,113 warheads. At peak stockpile in 1967 the US had over 32,225 warheads in it's arsenal with the missile range 8,100 mi. Every missile has the potential to be nuclear armed, so, every missile is a high value target. Now, does one suggest that any missile coming at Mach 3 is just a conventional bomb?

My comments are from my own research as the subject matter does interest me:-) Since the US and USSR (Now Russia) began the START treaties several years ago, both sides have reduced their arsenals considerably. Both sides have roughly the same number of warheads, though the Russian weapons tend to be of higher kilo/mega tonnage. All I can say is that if the US, and NATO allies ever launched (Con't)

@jmorello123 (Con't) such a missile offensive against the Russian Republic, and or it's allies, then what does it matter how many are intercepted by Russia's anti air units as they can reply in kind with their own barrage of nuclear tipped ballistic missiles as well. Remember the "MAD" doctrine, which stands for Mutually Assured Destruction? That's what kept either side from firing a nuclear warhead as a FIRST STRIKE move. The S-300/400 still increases Russia's chances for survival.

Well, if these are the "very realistic" scenarios that these Russian systems are tested in, then I can only imagine how good they are in a real war situation... A drone that doesn't execute any type of defensive maneuvers and which doesn't launch decoys is very easy to hit. I bet that this is exactly how they tested the S-400 too. So fact that many experts (which never saw it in action ) claim it to be the best in the world is just laughable.

Which drone or if anything can execute maneuver when missile fired is going at speeds of almost 1000m per second?Drone doesn't have a pilot,they are as maneuverable as (two old people screw) neither will ever know when this missile is locked onto it.There was a drone in Georgia shot by Mig-29,why didn't it defend?Interesting thing is that missile from that plane is twice slower than S-300 one.S300/400/500 hit targets from distances most radars carried by crafts can't even cover.

@BoxyTheSpaceDog Because the drones are much slower and don't maneuver like a normal fighter jet. That's why that MiG-29 shot down that Georgian drone so easy. The drones today are not made for speed and maneuverability or speed. They're not more maneuverable than regular fighter jets like you think... So the S-300 shooting down a drone that doesn't maneuver and doesn't use decoys is not at all a realistic test. At least not more realistic than the test the Americans are conducting for the

According to the narrator, the drone used in that exercise had the speed of 700m/s, that is 2,520km/h, which matches the top speeds of most modern fighters. Concerning maneuvers, target drones are generally preprogrammed with various flight paths and most can be remote controlled, so they do maneuver, as for evasive maneuvers, a human pilot would not be able to carry out such maneuvers at the speed of 2,520km/h, ...
