  • @hillbillycreeker yes this song is very historical too. Interesting subject matter.

  • TY for the post. STEVE EARLE is always appreciated!

  • I know about the hillbilly highway...having experienced it when I was a child..'57 to Ohio from WV.

  • I dip to this song :)

  • Listening to stuff like this makes me think, what happened to country, really what the fuck

  • @theseth454 This is more Southern Rock then Country.

  • @FivePointSevenLiter Not really. This is true country

  • Great feel good tune, miss CMTV on cable.

  • I wish someone would post the video of "You Belong To Me" I absolutely love that song but can't find it anywhere.

  • Love this song.... makes me want to get up and dance....... good song.. love the way this is done..

  • i think its one of his best

  • Man, what a fantastic songwriter Steve Earle is. Not a wasted word anywhere. And he's always had a great band, too.

Has Steve ever played a prison concert (a la "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison")? If I were doing time, he's the guy I'd want to hear.

  • @JoeRailfan

Yes, he played a concert at a prison in Tennessee as a condition of parole for a drug offense (not the one he was locked up for.) It was broadcast on MTV, and there are a few videos from the concert on you tube. Look up live versions of "I Feel Alright." It was a great stop on his comeback tour after getting clean.

    Or check out vimeo(dot)com/14538666

  • @nilradem Thanks for the tip. Can't believe I hadn't seen it before. "To Hell And Back" (MTV), a Folsom Prison concert for our time. Great job, Steve.

  • i just love the banjo in this song :D

  • Steve Earle isn't a socialist. He's labeled a socialist because he hates the fucking US government and that's what they call you if you hate them. That or a commie. Steve Earle is a bad motherfucker and eats teh liver of socialism with a few fava beans and nice Chianti.

  • @webwelder2000

If you look up interviews with Steve, he describes himself as a socialist, or at least leaning toward socialism, especially on economic questions. He is certainly not a libertarian. He has said that his politics were formed by playing leftist cofeehouses as a teen, though I do think his views were not as consistently socialist in his 20's and 30's as they are now.

  • 1 person is a fag! lol.. thumbs up aye? cause this song is awesome! :P

  • How is he socialist? Unless he explicitly came out and said he was socialist, or advocated for further government involvement in the means of production and more control over the collection and distribution of wealth, then you can't really call him a socialist. Just because you're anti war and anti death penalty doesn't mean you're socialist. I'm against all unnecessary wars and the death penalty, but I'm a libertarian, literally the farthest thing from a socialist.

  • @nevarbackwards

Look up Paste magazine, October 2004, Steve says "I’ve never belonged to any political party. I’m a lot closer to a Socialist than I am anything else, because I absolutely believe everything that Karl Marx said about economics. And I’m supposed to be able to believe that, and I’m supposed to be able to say that I believe that in a democracy."

  • @nilradem That's fucking awesome. He certainly writes some class conscious songs.

If ol' Karl Marx were around today, I think he'd have a copy of "Guitar Town" along with Springsteen's "Darkness on the Edge of Town."

  • Steve hit #37 in Billboard, 5-10-86. God bless!

  • me apacionan estos temas

  • Steve Earle is the biggest underrated song writer of his time. What most music lovers don't understand is that, besides his numerous # 1's sang by himself, he has written over 100 hits for other artists including the great and late Johnny Cash!

  • love this song and glad you put it on here with the lyrics

  • Good song. What a pitty he has such socialist views(wikipedia). But he makes good music.

  • @michaelcorleonepate

    Define socialist please...

But yeah Steve Earle makes good music.

  • I like this song!

  • genius

  • @MrLawson40769 amen

  • @MrLawson40769 FAGGOT DICKHEAD

  • @MrLawson40769 oh look at the 12 year old trolling to get some attention, how cute.

  • @Kloudwolv dat 12yr old got some bad language his dad should give him the belt for that

  • @desertfishy amen to that, the belt shaped me into the honest man i am.

  • the song of my generation the eighties were rocking and partying to steve earle luv whole album

  • Just like growing up with my dad

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Very cool guitar riffs on the instrumental breaks. Earle is still the king of the roots rockers. I heard this back in '86 and was an instant convert.

  • STEVE EARL IS THE MAN ! ! ! ! ! !

  • good song good job steve

  • Great song.

    I love the lyrics!

    Thanks for sharing this :)

  • I still think this is Steve Earle's best song.

  • Steve E put out the best sound time after time, and followed absolutely( NO ONE) My version of the TRUE REBEL.

  • Good song, very talented guy

  • Ya'll talk tuff but fact is this hillbilly would string u up in the swamps for the gators.

  • @leatherhead4 : LOL! and Tracy, too. I wish we could wipe off all the negative You-Tubers. Ruins it for the rest of us. I'm looking for another venue that isn't so rude, but I love the music! Steve Earl has some great songs; he's a real storyteller, even if I don't "drink and drug." He paints pictures with words... his songs are like watching a movie, really.

  • fuck you yah beast

  • j'aime bein la toune .....

  • Jeeezzzzzzzzzz... I like this song. Talk about rock-a-billy HILLBILLY! Let's talk about the music and leave the slurrsss at home, where yall waller in 'em.

  • I have never heard this song; I think it's pretty good! And for all you people who have such negative comments about hillbillys and rednecks, at least we can spell! Your rambling mis-spelled foul language shows that you are more ignorant than any red neck around!! :)

  • @TracyW2265 Very well put.

  • @TracyW2265 another things about us rednecks is that we actually work for everything we have it isnt given to us.

  • @darkknife02

There are plenty of rednecks who get government aid - in fact the statistics show the majority of people on welfare are poor white folks. THe people I see using food stamps in my neighborhood are white. Not that I begrudge them the help they need.

  • @nilradem Rednecks don't use food stamps.........what ur seein is WHITE TRASH.....WAKE UP

  • @eitoobmiz Everybody uses food stamps when their back is up against a wall. Maybe if the big companies would bring back manufacturing jobs there would be more to go around, but when there aren't enough jobs that means somebody somewhere is getting screwed.

  • @pencert don't go spreadin your obama lies here..........EVERYBODY DOES NOT USE FOOD STAMPS WHEN THEIR BACKS ARE UP AGAINST THE WALL.....i'm 53 yr's old and i work a job and a half and i ain't never takin a dime from the scum gov't.if i was to take a dime from the gov't,i would be stealing from my brother tax payer's.i've seen it all, lazy human trash gettin a( NUT CHECK) FROM THE GOV'T COZ THEY DON'T WANT TO WORK etc.

  • @eitoobmiz how bout you shut the f**k up with your repuglickin political drivel and enjoy the song? Is that asking too much nutjob?

  • @prober45 oooooooooohhhhh hit nerve didn't I,you must me one of those lazy parasite bloodsuckers stealin for the workin people. you eatin dorito's and suckin down red bull you bought with fooD stamps as your ENJOYIN THE SONG...
