I have 1 question and I dont know if you will really be able to explain it to me in words. I have always been told about an under painting. but dont really under stand what that means or how to do it. Every painting you do starts out looking like random color and shapes here and there that honestly looks nothing like what you are trying to paint. But then out of nowhere it starts to take shape and before i know it, it looks like a masterpiece. Do you think you could take the time and show this?

@TylersArtShack I'm painting the dark shapes I see first, then the mid value shapes, then the light shapes. Squint or go blurry eyed at your subject and that's what you paint, just those dark, mid and light shapes. Once you learn to do that you begin to have a sense for how to move things around to make a better painting.

There's not really much underpainting in this particular piece - I don't paint over top of the first dark layers much. Google 'underpainting' to find wikipedia info.
