This is a concept that I have been struggling with for a while - the 2 state solution. If they had accepted back in 1948 and in 2000, they could no longer consider themselves an occupied people. Even though they are NOT occupied, it is better for 'them' to let world opinion think they are.
But let's say they are now a 'country'. Every time they send a rocket or kidnap an Israeli soldier, Israel will of course retaliate. They can no longer cry 'we are victims of brutal occupation'.

1. Arabs must give up the "right of return".
