Yes, I had actually forgotten about the Schoenberg connection. Webern's first piece- Opus 1- was a Passacaglia for orchestra. Then there is the "Klangfarben" setting of my theme.
But the kind "neurotic" part that really reminds me of Schoenberg is at 6:14 and esp. 6:33. It just came out that way. The harmonic ideas are closer to Hindemith!
This has to be my favorite of your compositions so far. It reminds me of early Schoenberg and the Passacaglia in Britten's "Death in Venice".

I really enjoyed it. Hindemith is a composer we don't hear enough of in England - I love his "Mathis der Maler" Symphony.
