I literally just turned up the heat and put a sweater on. No matter how many times I listen to this i get mad chills throughout my whole body. At first my arms get goose bumpy, and I'm like hells ya, next thing you know even the hair on my big toe are standing on end. I've tried to find Dj's that can do the same stuff that KK is able to do and I just can't.
Whenever I get depressed I watch this. It reminds me of the creativity and beauty that still lies in this world. I know that may sound corny but sometimes music is better medicine than we all realize.
I think Kid Koala is a genius. Comparing many of the brilliantly skilled but ultimately soulless turntablalists to him is like comparing a virtuoso session player to a truly expressive and meaningful musician. He turns it into an art in the true sense of the word.
OK, Im kind of new to turntableism. My friend showed me this video but I still don't understand what he's actually doing that's so great. I mean... isn't he just changing from one record of moon river to another of the same? What's the merit in that? Im not shiting on Kid Koala, he's awesome... Im genuinely confused. Help!
It's a live remix...done well. Try listening to it without watching the video, and keep in mind that he's using records of the original track. AND it it's an easy song to ruin as well...
@Mikefromcabo The really good part is that he is playing entire parts of the song (actual notes) with only a record. That strange sound you here that sounds like a siren (Going from a high pitch to low pitch) is the 'notes' or 'instrument' he is using. He scratches to find the tone he needs for the note...and essentially plays a record as if it were like any other instrument with strings or keys. Pretty cool.
@Mikefromcabo I'm not sure myself, I think he's only got the vocals playing on one disk, and is playing the actual notes with the other record (which isn't moon river) plus extra effects to give it that cosmic sensation
i would really appreciate if you would pull your head out of your ass and look around. if you dont like the song i respect that, but if you dont like it because its scratched thats some pathetic and absolutely outdated bullshit,
For someone who lists Trance as one of their favoured genres of music, it comes as no surprise why you can't appreciate the beauty, the musicality and the technicality of the Kid's 'Moon River' rendition.
Of all the turntablist vids I see, and of which I must say I often can't fully grasp what's going on, Kid Koala makes quite clear here that he's absolutely brilliant with a turntable (or three)!
Kid Koala has WAY more hand control than Woody. But they have two different styles of turntablism. Kid Koala has some of the sickest hand control I've ever seen. Watch his Drunk Trumpet routine and you'll see what I mean. No one can touch that.
