  • I used to read these books alot. My favorite was about arthur and the knights of the round table.

  • Time Life books are EXQUISITE. I have about 6 from the "Time Frame" series and love looking at them now and then. The quality of the pages and covers is SUPERB. It doesn't even look 25 years old. They really made them great back then...

  • Great to see this ad - I have 20 of the books - tales of terror is the only one missing. They don't make 'em like this anymore . .

  • I just won the entire 21 volume set on ebay!!!! I've been looking for these books since I first saw these commercials starting all the way back in 1985.I can't tell you how stoked I am to have finally be able to now read every story thats contained in those beautiful books. And,the fact that they are all FIRST EDITIONS is a nice plus too.Thank you for posting this commercial,it was a fond memory from my adolescence!

  • PHENOMENAL books. Finally got the whole set on Amazon and worth every penny.

  • how much did they cost you?

  • @ardenatortwat

Ack! My heart literally aches because I cannot have those priceless books. Even if I had the money and found a complete set, my mother would throw away those wonderful encyclopedias of folklore and claim that they were the devil's work. Oh, I am envious of you, and very, very sad. u,.u,

  • @AuroraCelest You could go to your local library and read the books there. Seems like you need to tell your mom you live in America and Religious freedom is absolute, unlike other countries. I believe parts of the Bible are forged during the Puritan times, that is why a lot of the things in there don't make sense. Like If God hates homos why are they on earth? or "Thou shall not commit adultery, well how come Bill Clinton ain't dead yet"

  • @willdav713

I did go to the library and they only had six books. TT^TT Besides, although my mother is very religous, she really does care for me. I just wish she would trust me to not to be so foolish as to dabble with black magic. But Goddamn!!! I think this is the first time ever in my life that I truly wanted something. But in two years, I'm going to college and buying the entire set! :)

  • @willdav713 You clearly have no grasp of the history of the transmission of the biblical text, nor any clue about the original languages in which the books were written. Granted, the Puritans were nuts, but you'll have a hard time proving they forged the bible. One small community, versus the rest of the Jews and Christians on the planet. Don't cha think we would have noticed their forgery? Even if they did alter their copies, no one else would have followed them. Epic lol.

  • @boyakasha777 are you 2,010 years old? The Bible was rewritten several times, I can't ask William Tindale the man who wrote the King James Version back in 1624. Neither can you. But if adultery is a sin Why is Bill Clinton alive and well? If homosexuality is a sin Why do we have homosexuals? Many Native Americans had their own teachings and it is the Anglos that brought Christianity into the New World. But who was in America in 1624? The Puritans, Anglos who brought slaves and Native Americans

  • @willdav713 I didn't have to be 2,010 years old, I just had to learn Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. So I guess I don't have to ask Tindale either, since I can read it for myself. However the question you are asking are freewill / theological questions. If you translate from Hebrew, the biblical witness is still against adultery and homosexual acts, at least, male homosexual acts; women are not specifically mentioned. This will not solve your theological problems with the text,

  • @willdav713 anymore than a knowledge of Hebrew will solve the question of why bad things happen to good people etc. There are several good books on theology out there, find one that appeals and good luck; I'm more of an exegete than a theologian, so I'll leave it to the experts to answer your theological questions. However, it is true that an adulterated biblical text or errors in the transmission aren't the problem. That I can and did answer. In general the King James isn't a bad translation

  • @willdav713 as far as the OT is concerned, although it does use an inferior manuscript for the NT. But the translation is of course several hundred years old, and you can benefit from a more modern translation. The New Oxford Study Bible is a good one and it has a lot of essays and text critical notes, all in readable modern English. In seven years translating the bible, I've never encountered a malicious alteration when checking any other translations, although I might have used another word.

  • I found a whole bunch of them on ebay for pretty cheap. There were 21 books in the series.

  • Those booka re the BEST! They are old though. My high school library was getting rid of them because they were so worn and I made off with the Christmas one and the Magical beasts one. Some other kid got the rest.

  • Mannnnn, I remember this commercial. My brothers and I used to change the words to some parts of it to get a good laugh. I cannot believe that someone found these, wow, thanks.

  • I LOVE THESE BOOKS. My mom ordered these before I was born(1992), when I discovered them in our spare bedroom I would read them and get nightmares from the pictures(mostly in the "ghosts" and "night creatures" ones). So she hid them until I got older and all I was allowed to look at was the "tales of valour". Now I have read almost everything in them. The cool thing is they are written like all of that stuff happened.

  • I would love to find one of these now....omg!!! Never heard of them before!!! I wonder how much i can get a set for now?

  • the ghost analagy especially the one in the hall, claws curled, teeth clicked. After seeing them on nick at night, Iwas afraid to fall asleep.

  • I have a complete set of these - all 21 volumes - given to me by my ex who got them in a garage sale for $15.00! They are a treasure trove of folklore & mysticism. If you find copies, keep them. You will be hard pressed to find accurate folklore information anywhere else! I highly recommend these books to everyone whether you're into RPGs, Metaphysicsa & Magick, or just like simple folklore from around the world. These books are a library of information all their own. Get and use them!

  • Yeah, they were scary as fuck tome as a child. There was another Mysteriesof the Unknown commercial that had music almost as scary as the Unsolve Mysteries theme.

  • I got that commerical check that one out, How can you explain it. Also check out Mystic Places by user Elithecat the 1st commerical they did.

  • my grama still has those books ive read them all there awesome, although that commercial scared me when it came out (i was only 10) lol

  • man what!?!...as soon as I saw that rabbit's foot at the beginning, I would fly out of the room..that sh*t uses to scare the hell out of me...the part with the ghost coming down the hall...WHAT!!!.. and what was crazy is that they used to show this during kid's programming in the middle of the afternoon on Nickelodeon..lol..its funny now but I was spooked many nights from that commercial...I remember the Mysteries of the Unknown commercials too...I want the 80's back...lol

  • I am like some of the other posters, there was something so scary to me about these commercials when i was like 8 or 9 years old. It definitely brings back memories.

  • Great ad. It would be nice to see a less jerky version.

  • Which Time-Life book series was it that had the commercial that said:

"If you traveled around the earth at light speed for one year, when you returned to earth you would be the same age, but your child would be an old man."

    ??

  • i second the previous comment. these time life commercials used to really freak me out as a kid, especially the one about aliens and ufos...

  • I remmeber these type of commercials. They used to freaked me out when was a kid. I pretty much knew how Shaggy and Scooby Doo felt.

  • i had thses books but my mom took them becouse she i was getting to into them or something but they were cool illistrations were beautiful i wish i find them again my favorite was night creatures and Ghost.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I remember seeing these ads when I was five and being freaked out by them. They're kind'a cheesy by today's standards, but still bring back fond memories. I'm currently collecting the books and am re-reading Tales of Terror to get in the Halloween mood.

  • I love these books!

  • these books are awesome my roommate and I have almost all of them...the illustrations are soo cool.

  • OH MY GOD. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I love this series.
