Because if they pushed it when they are on the other side trying to get the fire out, they would be too close the fire and may so catch on fire.

...Also it was the most efficient attack line at the time. No civilians were in any immediate danger and traffic was 10-15 meters from the burn. It was hard to tell from the video, but there were a number of trees that LOOKED like they were 2-5 meters from the flame... The quicker they supress the couch fire=Less likely to catch tree(s)on fire.
