  • Amazing, Sermons from days of old

are being told again and they are pretty

    good, just like God.

  • Mr. Maher, the Orthodox Christians have been chanting "Christ is risen from the dead trampling down death by death and to those in the tombs bestowing life" for close to 2000 years now...You discovering "this guy" St. John Chrystostom, literally meaning the "golden mouthed" the great theologian and father of the Church whose liturgy we sstill celebrate today, is the terrible result of the falling away of our christian brother and sisters from the Mother Church..

  • Jesus is Risen and it took God's only Son to conquer death to reunite humanity back with God after original sin. True, God owns heaven and earth, hell is not the absence of God's Love, it's where souls have rejected God's love. And God can't go against one's free will, as Love is Free! And that is how God made us!

  • Love the song ... But Hell doesn't belong to God's enemy. It belongs to God. And God is not working at odds with himself in defeating death. He defeated death by slaying our evil at the cross and quarantining unrepentant evil in Hell.

  • We say "Christ is Risen!" The other responds "Indeed He is Risen".

  • Christ is Risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!

St. John Chrysostom (means "golden mouthed" and is not his real name) wrote the Orthodox Liturgy that we still use every Sunday. The sermon is read every Easter in every Orthodox church in the world.

We proclaim "Christ is Risen from the dead trampling down death by death and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!" every Pascha and for 40 days after.

  • Wow -- Nice to see Matt admit that his inspiration was the sermon read at every Every Orthodox Christian celebration of Christ's resurrection known as Pascha.

in fact that sermon has been read for 1700 years in teh original and ancient Orthodox Christian Church. If you liked the meaning behind the song -- you woe it to yourself to discover Orthodox Christianity.

The sermon itself is much more moving than the song here. IMO.

  • @129archangel interesting web site. not likely to sway anyone not already interested in the Orthodox Church. Anyone seeking a Savior is not likely to be concerned about Autocephaly. (Having said that, I loved reading it! Just one of the ways that I'm strange.) The Q&A section was good. The replies showed more humility and "approachability" than I'd have expected. Thanks for the reference! Regards.

  • Matt, this is a great song. I had your cd in my car as I was driving back and forth from the hospital to see my dad. This song gave me comfort, made my cry every time I heard it, but I would listen to it again and again. It is a victory song. Looks like my dad's going to make it. I can't wait to share it with him. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us.
