do you think this amp would sound awesome with a marshall cab with 25 watt greenbacks, also, have you played a uberschall? i like classic rock zep,old van halen. my modern would be dokken,ratt I'm not looking for new metal I think the uberschall might be limited I want george lynch's tone and classic plexi
I haven't tried the greenbacks so I can't say but have read on the forums of folks having success with it. Only played TwinJet and didn't like it as much as XTC, too fizy and saturated for my taste. For Lynch tones I would go more for Soldano SLO then Ecstasy.
For the blue channel, are you using anything for a boost? Because my blue channel does not have as much gain as you. I have the 20th Anniversary model btw.
No boosts in front, straight in and the Channel boost ... the original tubes that came with the amp were very high-gain (all Chinese). Notice when I go to Red Channel it feedbacks immediately. Since then, I swapped those for some NOS and now there's less gain but more definition, clarity and punch.
Hey :). I've been debating on this Bogner XTC head or the Dr. Z Remedy head and I can't decide on the one I want! Since you're an XTC owner, would you say the amp is pretty versatile? I play everything from old school funk (Average White Band stuff) to classic rock.
XTC was designed with being able to reproduce many different sounds so yeah, versatility is definitely one of it's strong points. Dr. Z Remedy is an amazing amp as well but you might have to put a few pedals in front of it to be able to cover a wider range of sounds. If you want plug+play, then get the Remedy, if you want tons of options and a wider tonal palette, get the XTC.
@nshc Hey, thank you for the response. I definitely have a lot more to think about now when deciding on which one to get in the future. Thanks for the help!
@nshc Got a question for you. Does the blue channel have enough gain to play Van Halen, whitesnake, etc? I wanna buyt one xtc, but yesterday I got to try a used one at GC an I was very dissapointed. Based on your video and other, this amp sounds amazing, but when I got to play it, it dissapointed me. It lacked amout of distortion in CH2 and 3, or I expected more. Any thought? Thanks!
@mesaboogie2007 Structure switch has to be set to "H" (as in: high) to have as much gain as in my video. I think it has plenty of gain IMHO, especially with the Boost ON. XTC voicing is not really "VH" style but gain wise it's got plenty.
i own a Mesa Electra Dyne amp, but man, this seems to be the ticket. I tried my first one more than 7 years ago, amps have come and go and i never bought me one thinking i could get the sounds of the XTC from another amp, i might just buy one this week and stop wasting money on other things. I will also keep the ED, cause it is really one hell of an amp!
Hey man, yeah ... Bogners are very specific sounding, if that's the sound you're looking for nothing else will really do. Not a matter of being "the best" but just unique sounding and very distinctive. 101b is a monster amp, I wanted one for years, finally got it and never been happier since.

@nshc if you plug the guitar in the low imput, does that reduce the wattage? Amazing that you look so young and have such nice toys...
bz1bz1 1 year ago
@bz1bz1
plugging into low input does not reduce wattage, just lowers input gain.
There is a half power switch on the back to switch from 100W to 50W but that does not reduce the overall volume by half (only shaves a few dB's off).
PS ... I only "look" young unfortunately ... LOL
