  • A underbraid is done with (3)three strands of hair, fishscales are done with (2)two. For those who know better, should have saw that. Cute braids, I need something to hold my daughters hair down....it is super long. I'm gonna try these but with less wax.

  • Coming from an professional The hair style is nice and this video sud be use as a learning vid. Use the info you receive here and put your own twist on it. If you feel like any of the steps can be damaging try something else to achieve the look. Be a good day

  • i like this video been looking for it for the longest great job!!

  • I like the style it looks great!

  • Those are called underbraids in detroit.....

  • Thats seriously a lot of wax. I dont care what anyone says but she pretty much just used a whole candle on this little girls hair. I have dreads, tried wax to palmroll and I HATE wax in my hair. This is how you damage someones hair. All that heat on top of wax and the on top of heat.

  • so damn wat its cute dis is 2011 nobody gives a damn bout hair every one is nt ment 2 have long hair n eway &when u can buy it n all kinds of stores yall @ da shop du yall thng bcause da work is beautiful we have lots of haters way i live now i do hair too but i dont care what nobody says cause ima make my money if u dont like wht u see stop lookin it aint ur head or yo kids her mom brought her here there to get her hair done so im sure she knows whats going on in the shop

  • i've always wondered how the HELL do people sleep with hairstyles like this?? i remember i had an updo and in the morning it looked waaay different

  • @WhuddupSlime you have to get one of those hair sleeves that are really big and they close in the front. their like for beehives and such.

  • we do those in florida called lifeted braids exept no wax then we use the marcel iron to lifet it !! that is very cute one question though ... why isnt she caped up ?

  • I see what you are TRYING to tell me but I do apologize..HOWEVER that is an UNDERBRAID that is LIFTED! You can try and put a name to it if you like, but it is what it is...an UNDERBRAID.... Oh, and thank you for the compliment. I have been in this game for TOOOOO long to know that sometimes people will try to do something and then give it another name.

  • please...whomever is the camera lady.... stick to being a stylist.. thanks for the style learned alot...

  • thats beautiful

  • good job i love it

  • that's what we caribbean ppl call a flat geinny

  • Sorry, but that is not a Fishtail Braid! That is a sculpted style. I know b/c I specialize in Fishtails and we have been doing them in NY since the late 80's early 90's

  • @yvonne122371 The title says fishscale, not fishtail. The technique she is doing is called fishscale braids, or raised braids. U do beautiful work also, but they are two different things.

  • Very interesting, but I would have loved to see the finished product.

  • U DiD A GREAT JOB! KEEP iT UP!

  • Wax is not bad for your hair..it serves the same purpose that gel would only though its not wet..Anyone(you don't have to be a stylist) with ethnic hair should care for their with 2types of shampoos/condiitoners...Regular Conditioning (routine/wk)and Clarifying(2-3wks). This will allow you to style you hair with causing harsh stripping or damage. And the hairstyle is not ghetto its creative..Wraps get old!!!

  • Wow, soooo many negative comments on such a good video. What ppl seem to forget is that they dont have to share any tips, advice or tutorials with us period, So just be thankful that they even took the time to do it. Who cares what its called, every region, state, town will have their own name for it. Good job n thank u.

  • I love the way she did this, i think it makes it more easier thanks for the tutorial!!!

  • LOOKZ GOOD !!!

  • Great job!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much for this hairstyle. I was looking for this tutorial and you look young, so I guess it took a baby to show me how. but thanks again, and I'm going to try this as soon as I get back home. Gotta get my baby from school and dont let these haters bother you because regardless of it they like it or not, you are helping people like myself, and others, as I've seen in your comment section. Keep up the good work, girl.

  • nice girl..thats right start out young and youll B a master when ya older. U said u use ULI wax thats clear. BUt that wax look white

  • nice girl..thats right start out young and youll B a master when ya older

  • WOW!!! I found this video to be VERY helpful. I've seen this style look many different ways, depending on the occasion and person. I've tried different things on my head, from braids, quick weaves, natural, and down. People tell me braids and quick weaves break ya hair, but these styles only grow mine, which is well past my shoulders. I'm about to start cosmetology school and I fould this video really helpful for something I can do since its too hot to wear my hair down. Thanks sooo much.

  • I like the look of this style. It is beautiful. Can this style and process be done on natural unpermed hair?

  • Well I must say hat I am born and raised and I have long healthy beautiful hair...and my point is I get these hair styles ALL the time nad my shit is still correct. To you hatin azz bald head rag dolls you should try it....My bad you dust bunnies rather put a whole bunch of ragdy extentions in your s***....The QUEEN has spoken....*Best believe I WILL BE DOWN FLARES GETTIN MY 3 FISHTAILS* AHA!

  • She worked that i like. and 4 the haters as long as the hair is rinse for 3mins withe water prior to shampooing with a clarifying shampoo the hair should be fine. i really like it.

  • Hope she's not gonna be bold at age 40!

I just don't understand why people do perm they kids hairs, it's not healthy at all.

  • The only problem I have with this, is the child has no protective covering whild products and heat are being admininstered. the child should have on a styling cape, they make them in children sizes. Otherwise, the braid came out nice, and it was done so without adding braiding hair for height and thickness. The product may seem a bit excessive, but it will help protect the hair somewhat.

  • NICE JOB!

  • my oh my! I wouldnt subject a child to such a thing

  • Dat wuz really gud lukz nice

  • omg i love dis g0od job!

  • I'm a hairstylist of 20 years and truth is... if you take care of your hair, it will not damage. I have the same clients I've had from the beginning and do all types of styles. They ALL have healthy hair. I make sure their ends are fresh every chemical service and do not apply so much heat to their hair, along with protein and moisturizing conditioners. Maybe you need to do some more research or try something different.

  • I hope I didnt come off as a hater b/c Im not, Ive been doing hair for 25+ yrs and BRAIDS are my specialty! Im just giving you some good advice..The way you are administering the technique is VERY damaging to the hair. Also, it is what it is..a French Braid. Fishtails, Fishscales take 9 pieces!

  • Honey you cant please everyone. This was a nice tutorial to share with the public. I wonder what the people with the negative remarks have on their pages to share that is as good as this one. And people...everything is not damaging if it is done right and your hair is kept conditioned, and also you can only suggest to your clients your opinion of how to manage their hair but at the end you have to give them what THEY want and what THEY pay you to do. Great work wsweetgold!!!

  • @sonyamobley Your right but as a HAIRSTYLIST in this game for 25+ yrs, all money you cant GET! This is VERY DAMAGING to the hair and as a professional , if a client of mine wanted it this way, I wouldnt do it. They can go to someone else and get their hair ruined! It can be conditioned to the HEARTS content, and its STILL NOT good for the hair!

  • So far I think I have improved my clients hair and known all over town and abroad for doing so. I use waxes, gels, sprays, spritz, and etc. Furthermore, there is absolutely NOTHING as far more damaging as hot irons and blowdryers and I'm sure you use those right? Secondly if it's called fishscales where she is from and she did it, then fishscales it is. Doesn't matter. Last but not least, did you know that braids are damaging permanantly. They kill hair follicles. Look it up!!!

  • @yvonne122371 Says who? So far I think I have improved my clients hair and known all over town and abroad for doing so. I use waxes, gels, sprays, spritz, and etc. Furthermore, there is absolutely NOTHING as far more damaging as hot irons and blowdryers and I'm sure you use those right? They kill hair follicles.

  • @sonyamobley What makes it DAMAGING is HOW you use them and HOW OFTEN! Braids are ONLY damaging also, depending on HOW they are BRAIDED and what is USED! Lastly, the ORIGINAL name is FISHTAILS! Thats like calling CORNROWS , FRENCH BRAIDS (as I have seen someone do) **toodles**

  • @yvonne122371 Exactly, that applies to everything. braiding to tightly is the cause of killing hair follicles which is irreversible just like applying to much heat will burn out or damage the hair (but it wil grow back). what this hairstylist did is not either. I've been doing it too long, I know!!! hairbraiding industry, yes this is a plain ol lifted french braid, hairstyling industry - these are the correct names for this particular hairstyle depending on where you live.

  • dats too much stuff in dat lil gurls head she put spritz and wax nd lot of heat i feel sorry for dat lil gurl she gone be baldhead if it waz left up to dem

  • Its not called a FISHSCALE it is a FISHTAIL aka FISHBONE.. That is ALL WRONG! You dont need to PRESS the hair out! ALL WRONG!! I dont know WHAT THIS IS!! WAX inbetween the HAIR!! OH NO!! You are DEFINATELY NOT supposed to do that!!! This is terrible!! She is doing a FRENCH BRAID! Im coming to DC in June and if you want to learn the REAL way you need to take my class... Check out my channel up here. I show you what the real FISHTAILS look like. My website info is there too.

  • That was awesomw Ciara from Baltimore

  • that look real nasty

  • i love this style wsweetgold.

  • ONLY PROBLEM DO THIS ON ADULT NOT KIDS

  • hey when I came home 2 Baltimore for a visit my mom brought me 2 your shop to get my hair done and I have not found anyone here(Florida) that can do my hair like you all did it keep the pic in my purse bcuz i was in love with it just wanted 2 say thank u and I will be back the next time I come home

  • I've ALWAYs wanted to know how to do this style so I'm so happy to have found this video!.. I know how to do just abt EVERYTHiNG concerning hair EXCEPT hair bc I've never seen it demonstrated... thx so much for the tut! Awesome demonstration!

  • Nice but not fishscale braids, fishscale braids are braided with extentions simular to goddest braids, no wax and hot irons, just gel and synthetic hair, like sadistic said "ghetto fabulous"

  • no those are fishtail braids it's a difference

  • @lilbmore20 Hey, she is doing a French Braid. Not a Fishtail. Different states give it their own name but the technique is the same. She is doing a plain ol French Braid lifted. Nothing fancy. My page has Fishtails aka Fishbones aka Fishscales.

  • Ghetto fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yall are so crazy ! yes the style is nice but cos'' rules cape ,towel remember bacterial infection , draping the client chapter ppl! lol

  • Actually the rule is, Sanek, towel, cape, towel and its not for preventing bacterial infection.

  • @cherybabybaby1 yeh but creative.

  • LOL underbraid! I wanted to see the finished look. What did she do with the rest of the hair?

  • the spritz, the wax, the heat from the irons, and trying to figure out how in the world am i going to sleep the first night without making my new style flatten out......just some of the reasons i've gone natural......Diggin' the style though...very cute!

  • it's very difficult for me to watch this little girl have her hair flat ironed then waxed then braided then spritz her hair was so short and damaged, instead of beauticians keeping hair healthy and strong I can only see you adding to the problem. all that I saw is a session on making sure that baby continues to have thin, damged/short hair. too sadd

  • I can see what you are talking about the only thing i can see that will help her hair is the braid. the spirts she used thats not to bad cause its the soft kind but she lost me with the wax.and the flat iron. that was to much wax she used...

  • Girl you did a good job on her hair! all dez haters on here! where yall page at then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im under my boyfriend profile but yeah i had my hair like this plenty of times and we been had this style in va for a while now. i really like it but it can be very damaging to the hair especially with the spritz then pressin it with the curlers

  • where is her cape

  • yes i just styled my doll hair and it came out just right ,but what kind of wax do you use

  • That's not fishscales... It's pretty, but its not fishscales.

  • that is what we call it in the haor buisness sum ppl call it fishbone i mean it doesnt really look like a fish scale or bone but that jus the name

  • thats a damn underbraid

  • How did you style the middle?

  • sprits is not good on the hair it drys it out and causes breakage

  • that looks good is that curling wax?

  • thatz real cute....in V.A dey call dem stand up braidz or lifted fish tailz

  • that hairstyle is way too grown for that girl

  • How do you sleep on it and it not get flattened?

  • In CT, NY, and NJ we call them fishtails. It is also done with gel opposed to wax and almost always done with weave by an African.

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • Thats right show em how we do it in bmore!!!

  • to many products on the hair at one time. then the hair is being cooked with the wax and hair spray.

  • good

  • now i see why its a stlye only in bmore, im from the south u never see stuff liket hat down here. but good vid, nice instruction

  • i dunno, i saw a woman in atl with that on her head.

  • I've never seen so much product used on one person. I was like okay she's gonna use some wax but then it was like two tbs of it followed by hair spray. The finished result was worth the product buildup; even though she'll only be wearing that style for 3-5 days max before a wash. The things we women do to stay beautiful. She'll look great but her necks gonna be killing her cuz of the position she'll have to sleep in to keep that perfect up-do. Lovely work; continue to keep Baltimore Beautiful!

  • that was really unique I've tried to do that on a couple of times but it doesn't turn out like I want to. I have tried that it on a few clients. Do you have any suggestion on how to get it tight or does it need to be loose.

  • I use ULI wax. It's clear, but you could use any kind. If it's too hard sit it by you oven for a while and let it melt down a bit

  • WHAT KIND OF CURL WAX DO U USE?

  • GHETTO! This is the ghetto hairstyling side of Baltimore! It's a joke! All that wax isn't healthy for the hair at all.. Trying shampooing that crap out.. :::Gags::

  • I was thinking the exact same thing...she flat ironed the hair to make it straight to only add wax (moisture) that would make to curl/kink back up THEN you gone put a hot marcel iron back in...THAT DIDN'T MAKE A LICK OF SENSE TO ME..

  • wax will not make the your hair kink up beacuse it is not water based it is oil based...and she put the hot iron on it after she spritzed it to make the braid hard....i have done this hairstyle plenty of times

  • who said wax would make it kink up?

  • if you look at the comment above mine you will see that i am repling to her comment...and i am not hating i am actually supporting your work...make sure you read b 4 u try to come at someone....

  • Stop Hate.. N!!!

  • @wsweetgold what kinda wax u use

  • @BlackBuddha777 its not wax u dumb fuck

  • @BlackBuddha777 wow does being different mean being ghetto???

  • @BlackBuddha777 ..Its not ghoett..This is called creativity..When you have creativity in ya blood like this you can do anything in this business and it make you unique..Salon Owner/Operator Lisa @ Pretty Girl Weaves Salon Albany NY

  • @BlackBuddha777 n as for shampooing out..Theres a shampoo called CLARIFYER....Any skilled stylist kno to use it on GREASY black hair. Peace Out

  • @BlackBuddha777 Its not really GHETTO, its just not DONE RIGHT! What she is doing is a regular cornrow! That is not a Fishtail. That is a Cornrow w/ some hair products added. Some people dont know the difference b/c they havent seen the real technique done before.

  • @BlackBuddha777 bees wax seal and conditions, whats bad for hair is lack of moisture, suffocating the scalp, excessive manipulation and excessive heat!!

  • @BlackBuddha777 the wax helps to protect the hair. Learn a thing or two before you speak.

  • Can you do another video of how to Fishscale Braid . that was vvvvvvvvvvvvvvery pretty I would love to learn to do that braid.

  • if you can do a reagualr french braid than you already can do this style...the fishscale is only a loose french lifted and seperate the parts....

  • what kind of wax do you use for this style

  • where is the finished product? And how you would you sleep on this?

  • That's what I was thinking...if you've spent all this time and MONEY to have braids that sit up, how in the ham & cheese(i don't swear) do you sleep?

  • so all you do iz briad big??

  • Is that FISHTAIL braids?

  • NO the FISHTAIL BRAID is much more difficult...it requires 4-5 strands of hair....not many people can do it....it is very beautiful....

  • what type of wax are you using....is it like the white curling wax.

  • yes,

  • that's cute I wanna see the finished loook

  • that looks really good, I would have loved to seen the ending results. Please post more videos

  • waht is this for bullshit i want my 5 min from my life back

  • is the wax to make it stand up??

  • o yeah i got my hair like that before, im in ohio.... but i got a fish tail with that before

  • how do u braid like dat??

  • 2 cute!!!

  • Is she under braiding? And can you do this with twist too? MORE>>>>MORE>>>>MORE>>>>post...MORE

  • yes you do with a twist also

  • love the braids, never knew what they were called until today.

  • I loved it, 2 thumbs up! What kind of wax did she use/ or whats a good wax to se for a style like this?

  • you could use any kind, but try not use a red wax. you want the wax to melt clear. Like a beeswax. Also put the wax by you curling oven so that it will melt a little. Sometimes the was can be too hard to smooth onto the hair.

  • omg....thats what up! You know Im on it from here. Loved it.....we want more. we want more!!!

  • we want to give you more. What state do you live? im guessing NY. I am there all the time!!

  • aww the little girl looks so shy

  • Cool video very hands on
