I have only the tiniest bit of native blood in me, but of couse I'm as white as it gets. Wish I could learn more. All I've found on ancestry.com is that I have a (a few greats in front of) grandmother by the name of Isabella Lnu (1744-1795) who married Robert Duffield (1739-1795) in 1763. Isabella's father was named Running Horse (1720-?). They lived in Virginia. That's all I know. I think the culture is just absolutely beautiful.
You're right, it is distracting and I apologize. i did this on OneTrue Media as a slide show and I tried to choose "worls music" that hade a snycopated "native American" type of beat. i guess I didn't do to well. i did go to the PowWow in Riichmond this past Veterans Day weekend and i anm using the music from the videos that i shot. Check it out!
Thank you so much, TwoEagles! I went to another PowWow this past weekend (the wk. end of veterans Day/2009) and I was pleased to see Ms. Irene Bedard there again! Irene is the real deal, pleasant, professional and yet still himble. She was very nice!
She played the voice of Pocohontas in the animated Disney film, She had the official literature and she was quite nice! I wish I could get her name, wait let me google it....hmmm i can't find it yet. they talk about he voice of powatan and an Indian consultant -
Disney also hired Shirley (Little Dove) Custalow-McGowan, a Powhatan who travels through Virginia teaching the history and culture of her people, to work as consultant for the film. When she saw the early rushes, she said, "My heart sorrowed within me...Ten-year-old Pocahontas has become twenty-year-old Pocahontas. The movie was no longer historically accurate."
its ironic, I am the only Japanese/Native American Dancer you will ever know. And yet this video has taiko drums, not a n pow wow drum
