What a faboulus start of the show of this super group. I like the preapering during "Take A train" coming around from Al Stewart. Jagger moving and just running on stage, never losing his breath.
You are mashing up a couple different stories which took place a couple years apart. And since both stories come from Keith Richards, there are probably half bullshit anyway. Keith is a very entertaining guy, but he never lets the truth get in the way of a good story.
@funkybasswah That's my problem with much of the songs played on the 1981-82 Stones tours: too fast and hurried up. I'm not sure that's because of Charlie's drumming.
Anyone notice that the marquee behind the stage keeps rolling "Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones?"
Mick had them put that there, and the rest of the band was FURIOUS! Like the band were Mick's hirelings. This would culminate in Charlie Watts throwing a right hook and knocking Jagger over a silver platter of smoked salmon, sending Jagger flying across the room and trying to crawl out the window.
@StyrofoamKup I don't know about the second part, but in Keith's book Life he does tell about how in the 80's it was all the sudden "Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones" and the band was mad at hell.
@MitchMansfield r u sure? i dont see it? that sounds like mick though ahah but damn i love them all oooooooooooooh now i see the big JAGGER but didnt charlie really knock him???
@ironmaiden0112 --- Yes, Charlie beat his arse. It didn't happen the night of this show, but a while later, in Amsterdam. It was a result of a lot of little things Mick was doing in the early '80s, acting like the Stones were his backup band. The other boys didn't take too kindly to that, especially Keith - the guy one who wrote all of the music, and most of the lyrics. :)
@MitchMansfield The incident with Mick and Charlie happened in 1984 in Amsterdam, about three years after this concert. But things like 'Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones' were certainly a signal of Mick's prima donna behaviour, and the beginning of Mick and Keith's feud, that culminated in the eighties. Mick became ambitious and thought he didn't needed The Rolling Stones anymore (much to Keith's anger).
@robin14669 - Yes, you got it. I was trying to iterate how things like the digital marquee blaring "MICK JAGGER & THE ROLLING STONES" led to Charlie belting Mick across a platter of salmon. Not draw a timeline. None of it happened in a day. And Keith's ire was well placed, as well as that of the rest of the band. :)
@imaccuish The politics of the Rolling Stones (at that time) dictated that if you were going to kick Mick Jagger's ass, you had to plan it carefully. Keef pulled Charlie off Mick, and Watts was mad as hell at him for it! Charlie asked Richards "Why'd you stop me?!?!?" Richards: "I was afraid you'd fuckin' kill him!" Watts: "And?"
Oh yeah Lets spend the night together VHS and DVD. I like how he changed the lyrics from there's a girl to there's a woman. Woman sounds better to me.
Is it normal to press thousand times like button for this video?

@MitchMansfield I dont know how true that is but I wish somebody would have done something similar to Axl Rose.

@MitchMansfield Charlie's punch (in Amsterdam) was four or five years after this tour. That's a unusually long time to warm up for a right hook.
