  • Brilliant , you explain things so well, keep it up Lou !

  • @Durberville1 Hi Jeff. Thanks for your kind words. I enjoy modding guitars and hope I can help others do the same. It's fun to take an inexpensive guitar and turn it into one that plays and sounds great!

  • Hi I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A SQUIRE STRAT BULLIT and fit seymour hot rails will i still be able to get the fender twang sound out of the hot rails on the clean sound by twang i mean Mark Knofler sound.

  • @Howardtripper Go to Semour Duncan's web site and the navigate to the support/audio-samples/strat_replaceme/ page. . If you scroll down a bit, you'll be able to listen to the Hot Rails and compare them to other pickups. The best thing for you to do is listen and compare.

Don't forget that part of Mark Knoffler's tone comes from his amp. If you are not using his amp, you won't get his exact sound. However, you can come reasonably close. Hope this helps.

  • Hey, i have a squier strat that i want to rake the guard off completely, i like the sleek look it has without the guard. Any suggestions or advice u can give?

  • Hi Dan. Since the pickguard holds the pickups and wiring in place, you have to decide how you are going to mount your pickups and secure the wiring. You can screw the pickups directly to the body, but first make sure that they are high enough so that the spacing between the pole pieces and the strings is correct. You might have to put a shim under them. (See next message. I'm running out of room.)

  • I'm not sure how you are going to mount the 5-way switch and and tone/volume controls to the guitar since they are designed to be mounted under the guard. You may have to cut out the section of the pickguard that holds them in place. You could mount them to the underside of that piece of guard and screw it into place. That would probably work. I would also suggest that you protect any exposed wiring.

Good luck. Let me know how things work out.

    Lou

  • really nice work you got over there! A very intresting hobby !

by the way whats the name of the song you play in the beginning?

    keep up the good work!

  • The intro. song is my instrumental version of "I Saw Her Standing There" by The Beatles.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice compliment. Actually, I have two hobbies... 1) modifying guitars, and 2) recording videos. Lots of fun!

  • Hello my friend...you really rocks. I wonder if you know how to upgrade such mentioned guitars into the Hank Marvin (The Shadows) echoes. Hank's guitar has a special wiring. I wish I can have my strats modified to sound like the Shadows. I used a foor pedal effect such as the "Magic Stomp" with EFTP to get Shadows echoes. Nice tutorial though, I like it very much. Thank you for sharing.

  • Thanks for your comments, roodie. I appreciate your kind words. Unfortunately, I do not know how Hank Marvin's Strat was wired. Perhaps you can find out if you do a Google search. Nothing wrong with using an effects pedal to get the sound you want.

  • how hard is it to solder-connect the new pickups in??

  • Soldering is not hard once you get the hang of it. Just practice a lot before you attempt the real thing. The difficult part of wiring up a pickguard is following the wiring diagram. It is tricky and it's easy to make a mistake.

  • It seems like a lot of work but I am sure the result is sweet!

  • Hi. The work on the neck was not too bad. I didn't need to remove much wood and application of the tongue oil was a snap. Just wipe it on. The wiring was already hooked up, so I only had to move the assembly -in one piece- to the new pickguard. The tough part was the grind-and-polish. It took a lot of work, and it was scary since I had never done it before.
