  • Much more bluesy than those "kings of sustain" or "more fun to compete million notes per minute race guitar runners".

Thanks to this music from heart & soul.

  • yep!

  • This is so keeewl. More than his technique, it's the connection between his current emotional state and his playing that makes Bobby great. He's got amazing style and composition acumen. The drummer (I think Kobie Watkins is his name) is another beautiful fussion of emotion and playing. This group is tight!

  • @sweepersan

Any update on when the new record is coming out? Can't wait to pick it up!

  • @thechallengeresponse Yes, finally!! It will be released in May 2012 on the CD entitled "Upper west side story"

  • is this song on any of bobby broom's albums?

  • @bluesbutcher590213 Yes, finally!! It will be released in May 2012 on the CD entitled "Upper West Side Story".

  • that's what i really call music

  • Very nice!

  • I've always loved how Bobby will blow my mind with some crazy chromatic bop lines and then stoke my soul with searing blues licks. I miss the Green Mill on Tuesday nights!

  • nice !...

  • This is why I love Chicago

  • Bobby broom is my idol .. this track is cool as ice and bobby sets the fret board on fire ...

  • Amazing!! Addictive , donno when can i stop listening to this, so beautiful in its mix of genres and beats.. wanna experience the same, dowload the entire album for free at DownloadMusic[.]im, .

  • Terrific Groove! Love the trio setting. Great tune as well! Looking fwd to your next visit to Indy!

  • Hazlo Bobby, hazlo.

  • this is the best new jazz I've heard. period.

  • It's been a loooooong time since I last heard music to which I said "daaaiyeeem!"

Well done chaps! Very cool stuff!

  • Cool.

  • It is basically a 12 bar blues form, and doesn't actually have any chords I think in the entire recording. But the bass implies the i-VI-VII chords in the key of Em by just playing the roots. 3shiftgtr, this is actually in just plain old 4/4 time, not a jazz waltz. The implied changes are:

    8 bars of Em (intro)

    Em, Em, Em, Em

    C, D, Em, Em

    C, D, Em, Em

There is one spot where the bassist skips the last 4 bars of the form, that I noticed, could be more.

  • if i dont watch this video, i thought its mike stern playing, but its still bobby,s style that remains, great ideas,inspiring...

  • me encanta la melo

  • That's... that's my cousin. WoW

  • Oh, sí nena, sí, maldito jazz - blues...

  • IMPECABLE...........

  • swabistylie-It is yes, technically a blues; a jazz blues. It uses the standard 12 bar blues form used by everyone from Lonnie Johnson, to Muddy to the Kings (B.B., Albert, Freddie), and substitutes chords, phrases etc. Instead of a standard blues shuffle rhythm, they use a kind of jazz waltz feel. Remember, in jazz, everything is implied. The blues is implied as they are playing over its form. But U are right, this wouldn't be classified as THE BLUES, more like A BLUES.

  • they actually don't play over normal blues changes, but it mirrors the standard form and it sure as hell is bluesy.

  • yah yah

  • Very nice, you sound so full with just three pieces, I work with a trio drummber, Guitar, and upright bass same as you guys, I'm a vocalist if you get the time give us a listen.

  • This track takes me into another world...i could sit back listen and relax all day to this.

  • This is cool. One of the better modern jazz performers that i've heard for sure. Love the drums. Jazz drums are so cool. I like the gutiar melody, it's very forward moving. Cool video too. It goes with the music real well. Love that bass boom boom boom, that acending line.

  • Naw, Bobby is distinctly Chicago if you lived here you'd know what I mean. No one knows how hip the Chicago jazz scene actually is except us Chicagoans. Its a damn shame.

  • Bobby is a bad bad cat. He was playing with Sonny Rollins when he was only 16 years old and killing it. He might be in Chi-town but he belongs to NYC.

  • Bobby Broom is a great talent certainly meriting wider recognition. Thank you for posting this.

  • I'm not sure you can think too much. Just too slowly.

  • like over think something thats simple

  • My feeling is that if you're thinking at all, then you're probably dragging. You should be singing. He, Broom, did a great version of Willow Weep with an organ trio--might have been called Deep Blue.

  • This is fucking deadly! Lovely feeling in the music!

  • This is tight! thanks for posting!
