I wonder if you take a bunch of children of different ethnicities and raise them in an isolated society free from all racist cultural influence, would they naturally develop racist sentiments toward one another?
Also that still doesn't justify the humiliation, degradation, intimidation and pain we suffered here in bondage.
P.S many blacks were tricked into slavery things they were going to get gold and things you really think slave catchers were equiped to take on a villiage euiped with warriors with large populations lol
You act as if African slave catchers were doing it for fun thats not the case. The truth is they tried to enslave the Indians but they didnt make good slaves so they went to Africa "looking" for slaves. Blacks didn't have a slave supermarket in England selling blacks wholesale. Whites had a need and they estblished it with bribes and threats remeber every seller needs a buyer "supply and DEMAND". So the blame still falls on whites you may have not did the kidnapping but it was done in your name.
Five amigos of happy feet, dude come on what no one can use characters that sound like a different nationality without it being racist? And how is that jungle book one racist?
Thing is, take a look at the Popeye cartoon. This was during the height of WWII. The US had a MAJOR grudge against Japan after what happened at Pearl Harbor. Propaganda film was everywhere trying to further this rift between nations during wartime....even at the subject of cartoons to make children not like the opposing nation(s). That's just the nature of war. All aspects of it are cold.
im not the first one in the room to complain about somthing being racist, generally because im the one making a racist joke but there is a time and place for any type of humor. in my opinion this being completely racist or a mix with stereotypes should not matter. This cartoon was intended for children and jokes like this have no place around kids in common times. if you cant see this then you are likely to be one of the people who post a comment without a shred of common grammer skills.
@Landaux because being racist during that time was not only socially accepted but also expected. anyone who complained about it was never litsened to. some of these things are only sterotyping but you cant deny that most are racist based jokes for kids.
so when ethnic minorities make fun of yall in stand up comedy, dont fix ur mouth to say a damn thing cuz no 1 gives a fuck. dont like it, turn off the dvd or change the channel.
portraying black people as they are (or were) is not in and of itself racist, not even in cartoons. I didn't see a single racist thing here.....except for the black Elmer Fudd...and that was more of a sign of the times than anything.
reason blacks hate hate the nigger word is the slaves was from the congo in africa, the ones that caught and sold them as slaves was from nigar, if you look in federal cencus of 1860 in newton county mississippi, more nigars owned slaves than white people did, So don't blame white people did to blacks, blacks did it to each other
@bill3old Bill I totally understand that...But honestly the average black person does not know this part of the "n" word history. They mostly associate the word with a negative history and memories on racist people, laws, activity, and heinous inhumane acts. But this comment was super awesome! :)
@bill3old When people make this comment, it makes no sense. Regardless of who owned slaves, it was still wrong. It almost sounds like you are forgiving non-blacks for owning slaves just because some non-whites also owned slaves. It doesn't matter either way, it's still wrong. Slavery of all races has been going on since the beginning of time but it can never be justified.
@bill3old lol please 1st the word nigger come from a latin word meaning black 2nd Africans that caught slaves were a minority from small villiages on thecoast with no imperial connections to protect them from whites( if they would have tried that with Ethiopians, Mansa Musa's people or the Moors things would be different) and the whites still came and bribed, payed and threatened Africans to get the slaves (its wasnt a blow out sale). Also it doesn't justify the treatment we got from whites.
So are you trying to tell me that the imvasion Europe, and America took on Africa hasn't affected anything? Dude the Europeans and Americans came to Africa to preach the word of God, and instead they took over there land and raped the women, and put everyone in slave labor. Sure then the Africans used to send there criminals for trade when they were shipped over seas, but that doesn't change the fact of what happend.
@gdsculturelover i wanna walk like u, an ape like me - sounds like N*gg*! & it says only if we can be human too. The apes are referred to as Black men.
@1HELLOHELLO12 Now some where down the rode YOU let someone plant a seed in your tiny head that you are a bitch, and you now walk around with your slutty friends calling yourselves bitches. if i were you id think about getting you some therapy. :)
@1HELLOHELLO12 white people hated blacks and called them NIGGERS, they beat them down mentally and physically, the worst thing you can do to a person is get into their heads, white people got into blacks heads and made them see themselves in white peoples point of views, that they are nothing more than niggers, (that is not how i feel, i dont use the N word). why else would they use that word against themselves the way they do with smiles on their faces.
dumb niggers complaining again. so what if this is racist? blacks are mentally inferior and it is accurately depicted. the only reason people complain is because the jew media.
To me ,nothing is racist , cuz we got Yellow , Black , White, Brown in the world , if cartoons or movie just only have White , that's mean RACIST . but the movies or cartoons have yellow, black, brown that's mean they r not racism cuz that's fair enough . they should make many kind of ppl for movies n cartoons , not just only WHITE , that's very very Racism.
Why is it hard for some people to understand that some stereotypes are true.
Example:
All Chinese immigrants have a slight accent.
Is that not true? They have an accent because English is not there first language!
Having an accent is not racist, and complaining that is probably means you're either over sensitive and like to be upset about everything or you're a mother.
why is it not racist when black people call themselves niggers, but when a white person does it then that person is a racist hater??? on the black crows, the wiz had black crows, does that mean that the black producers, and writers and actors were racist against themselves??? people have gone soft now a days
They're caricatures because they need to be funny whilst being easily recognisable. They're over exaggerated and stereotypical because cartoons were hardly known for being subtle, were they? Show a stupid, idiotic, bumbling white man and it's funny. Show a stupid, idiotic, bumbling black man and it's racism.
This shit is not racist....it is stereotyping. And the Popeye cartoon is propaganda used by every country participating in the war. It is funny how the "coloreds" have an issue with this, but not the stereotypical pants on the ground, gold teeth, thug talk and attitudes, and the sky-high rate of black on black crimes.
The first cartoon you showed was not the before but the after. If you knew your facts bugs bunny's first appearance was with Elmer fud in "A wild hare".
Errrrm, i'm a brown person, and errrrrm where was the racism???
Over hyped PC bullshit, and it aint even us black and brown minorities that have a problem with shit like this, it's dumb middle class white people comin up with dumb theories about eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverything being racist!
as long as the world turns , and we are all different in color and ethnic , this will always be the way things are . some of us just have class and respect .
The crows, which is a scene from Dumbo, is not from a children's cartoon. The argument falls flat right there. For anyone crying racism I put a question to you. If you were the cartoonist and wanted to have Black characters, and make it funny, what would you do? Personally, I always found Elmer Fudd ethnically offensive.
These old clips didn't become "children's" cartoons until many years after they were produced. They were called "shorts" and they were played just before major film features in theaters that only had adults sitting in them.
well i find it crazy that people can talk about how bad these racist clips were back in the day. but look at the cartoons now. children cartoons and adult cartoons are showing racist scenes because it's "funny." This video shows that it has been going on a lot longer than we all thought. But if you have sometthing to say about the old cartoons, don't be bias and not say something about the one's today. right is right and wrong is wrong, don't make exceptions for the sake of "comedy."
@KoRnisgud Indeed. So many people are so freaking sensitive about their little feelings about this or that and how the white man keeps them down or about the 'N' word or some other silliness. It's history, crybabies! Can't cover it up or make it go away... Just deal with it and grow up.
Condemning an individual purely on the color of their skin?........ No. Stereotyping? Probably! Fuck everyone for confusing the two and dealing the race card for the sake of withdrawing sympathy from the oppression bank?......... Absolutely!
I'm done, guys and gals. Between the deniers (there's no more racism now! Nobody's lynched now! Get over it!), the lovers (I love these stereotypes...so get over it!), the kum-bi-yah-word-twisters (MLK said something about moving on guys, that means I want to silence your views so get over it!) I'm done. If you have a genuine question, like some of you here do, hit up my ask box. I'll let the racism lay out in the open air here to stink.
How long will you people beat this dead horse! Racism should be laid to rest, you just can't let it die, can you? The more you stir a pot of mess, the more it stinks. It's time to move forward, and treat every one his fellow man as equal. I watched this cartoon as a kid, I don't recall having an urge to join the KKK. I am as much against racism as anyone, as Matin Luther King said, "treat everyone according to the content of their character, and not the color of their skin" Let it be.
@sidrojoe That' an old view of racism. It's now people in business suits and ties and law enforcement uniforms and "colorblind" people. It's not a matter of stirring it up, it's there, open, stinking. MLK MARCHED. he SPOKE OUT against racism. What you are doing is not using MLK's words against racism like MLK, you are using them to silence those speaking out against them, that by not speaking about it it will not exist, as if a child puts a blanket over his head and cant see, dad is really gone!
@lordrazi111693 I love Aussies! Anyway, race relations are different in Australia than in the US, first of all. Australia has to deal with what people have done against the Aboriginal people, US has to deal with a legacy of slavery, civil rights. If anything, just understand that even if you don't see it yourself doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I replied again to your other comment explaining further. I'm interested in your thoughts.
@yummieyummie123 the US does seem to have had a different degree of race issues. a different level of bad news.
but that doesn't mean that one needs to look for ill in every corner.
take it with a smile. all my friend have completely different backgrounds.
just chance. we joke about race all the time.
even if the creators wanted to entertain kids by presenting a different accent or way of speech that is associated with a certain group doesn't mean we need to rush to call em racists.
@lordrazi111693 I'm sorry but that way of thinking does more damage than good. It really does. "Color blindness" silences people's experiences and excuses racism and racist behaviours. Yes, mix it up! Be friends with people of different backgrounds, but that doesn't mean they leave their histories behind. That's asking them to become some1 else. They dont have to take anything with a smile, let alone racism which is another form of violence. Being in the US I see things first hand.
@lordrazi111693 no one is "looking" for it. It's there in our faces. You don't see it because you don't experience it and it doesn't effect you first hand. Also because there's a trend now to ignore these things, which isn't good. Notice how I never called them racists. I said these cartoons are racist or examples of racism. The title is RACISM in children's cartoons, not RACIST cartoon-makers.
@lordrazi111693 These are examples of racism. Entertainment is not an excuse, ever, esp. for the young impressionable minds of children. It's not just an "accent" in this one cartoon. It's one of the many EXTENDED unending, damaging and marginalizing stereotypes of blacks (stupid, slothful, big red lipped, uneducated, not well spoken, subhuman, singin', jivin') and Japanese (chinky, broken "engrish", and also makes fun of their culture of bowing). This was the only view shown.
@lordrazi111693 for fiction i shouldn't need to think of all the the possible histories and peoples that may be offended. it unreasonable and impractical. if u are black and that vid offended u the creator doesn't owe u anything.
@yummieyummie123 sorry it took me so long to reply. com died. i blame the jews. :)
in reply to ur point about color blindness being a bad thing.i don't see how? it does not silence people's experiences. and it does not require people leaving their history behind. it just means that if i make a film and i have a black guy do the monkey voice there is nothing wrong with that. nobody would have complained if it was a Scottish accent on the monkey.
@lordrazi111693 Just because you don't see the racism doesn't mean that it's not there. I said previously that the experiences of marginalized people can't be ignored just because I myself don't see it/ don't experience it. Exp: I'm not a gay man or disabled, but when a LGBT or disabled person talk about their experiences of homophobia/ discrimination, I can't deny it's not there. I must acknowledge that I have able-body privilege & heterosexual privilege, I don't get the same treatment as them.
@yummieyummie123 just because i don't see pain or hurt doesn't mean its not there. true
however if i see a cartoon. and there are talking animals. and some of the animals are black as matching their color in real life i find it hard to see how that can be offensive.
because of the way they talk?
its entertainment. its meant to get little kids watching. i doubt u had ppl sitting thinking: " lets make the monkey secretly represent a black man."
@lordrazi111693 EXACTY! They weren't even thinking because it was the norm to cast minorities, who were widely already considered inferior to whites, where PoC's homes and businesses could be burned down, where people could lynch another man based on the color of his skin and get away with it as "innocent funny stereotypes." It was normalized and never second guessed. That's why color-blindness is so dangerous.
@lordrazi111693 Without dialogue, these cartoons continue these stereotypes and racist thoughts unchecked. That's why people must talk about it, see it for what it is. I'm not saying throw these cartoons away. I'm not saying they don't have good qualities, because they do. I'm saying see the racism for what it is. The Jewish holocaust included a lot of good people looking the other way until it got too bad to ignore and thousands had already died. It only takes that kind of thinking.
@lordrazi111693 the damage is when that's seen as the "black way of talking," because it's not. There are plenty of educated blacks and asians who speak english well, and there are plenty of whites who do and who don't. The damage is when the entertainment becomes the normalized stereotype. Imagine an impressionable black or asian child seeing this wondering if that's what he really is, and always seeing these images? It's damaging. Privilege can blind us to these things.
I just want to say that with sexism, homophobia & transphobia, fatphobia, ableism , Islamaphobia, and racism, it does NOTHING to keep silent about something that is/was normalized and that did/does marginalize people.SPEAK UP.
To ask or expect someone to be silent speaks to OUR PRIVILEGE either as a male, cisgendered, straight, slender, able-bodied, white, Christian. BE OPEN to LISTEN to people who are in the minority and experience these things. Don't deny their experiences. :-)
Elmer Fudd was already in existence and starred in the "Rest and Rewaxation" cartoon that ended up with him the bunny and the bear in prison...funny how no one seems to take offense at the Looney Tune portrayal of Appalacians.
This is racist no matter what time frame you want to look at it from
crows from Dumbo isnt racism....can you give me a valid reason of why it is? ("because they are black and are singing old timey music" doesnt cut it) same thing with Jungle Book wtf?
@crazychris1123 its not that it's just that blacks are singing to some music so now it's racist. Racism doesn't work that way. Racism is systematic where a group has power + prejudice. Racist minstrel entertainment has existed throughout US history. Repeatedly blacks have been branded as subhuman, savage and have been dehumanized though minstruel songs, nursury rhymes, advertisements. It's racist because it's ANOTHER harmful imitation and mocery of black people.Does that help answer ur question?
@crazychris1123 To add to your ? more specifically, the crows allude to Jim Crow, a (blackface) minstrel character. Blackface is racist and harmful (just like yellow face which makes fun of Asians) partially because it's exclusively negative traits are be taken as truth and in turn, have other people (and members of that race) believe these traits are true, which they aren't.You can see my other comments to this vid about y the Jungle book ape is a racist character.
@yummieyummie123 but why do people have to point out flaws in Dumbo? cant they just let it be? people say crap about it all the time acting like its going to do something..the movie was made already and it was great its a classic. Wasting time explaining who its racist is only taking time away from that persons life. I am 50% African American but you dont see me complaining about this or the Jungle Book. I saw both when i was a kid have NO problems with it then EVERYONE has to ruin the movie
@crazychris1123 Good questions! I do not believe pointing out racism ruins the movie. Something can be classic and good for other reasons but still very much racist. Pointing out racism like this is important for many reasons. Please understand that, to someone who identifies as Black (or not! they don't have to to be offended by minstrel blackface or racism) there is a legacy of this constant and normalized imagery that carries with it ideas that linger on today. (to be continued)
@crazychris1123 (continued) I don't think it's fair to ask somone to be silent about racism because of it's potential to make others uncomfortable because to many who's identity is distorted by things like this (and things much much worse) who have to live their lives around this stereotype of "jiveness" and "coonery"... it's elitist to act like someone should not speak about it. (to be continued, 2)
@crazychris1123 Lastly, It DOES do something. Yes, the movie was already made and that can't be undone. But now people have to talk about it so that it doesn't happen again, because we really aren't that far removed from this. it's not that old and don't believe that just because we have a mixed Pres. racial tensions don't still exist. If people live life at face value and ignore racism and silence people who speak on it, we are still OKing it. Which is bad!
@crazychris1123 Sorry I'm writing you so much, it's because I want to be thorough in addressing your questions in a 300 character space lol. Your identity as a biracial/multiracial person is important, but it also doesn't negate blacks and other multiracial people's anger/frustration/sadness or whatever reaction they have to these examples of racism. By not speaking about it like it's not there at all because it's a negative thing will not progress us forward. :-) Good questions.
@yummieyummie123 I understand that racism is bad but you have to have noticed that in many shows racism still occurs even in many jokes but people laugh it off (Family Guy, South Park, Simpsons EVEN kids shows like Pokemon and Dragonball Z were scolded for "accidental" racial profiling...Racism will NOT dissolve no matter which way you put it. There will always be a racist person in the world and/or racist quotes so why not ignore it? I'm sorry to disagree but speaking does not help at all.
@crazychris1123 Different strokes for different folks. I just believe that if nobody ever spoke up shit would never get done at all. It could have ended up a lot differently. I wouldn't count out all the people who spoke up about it, and made the world a better place for doing so. I choose realism with a healthy dose of optimism. :-) Good speaking to you :-)
@crazychris1123 I'll inbox you some useful information. I admit I might have passed over certain things, based on the limited amount of space available here to type lol. I just thought that it would be good for everyone to see and form their own opinions. Short answer, if nobody spoke, marched, protested, boycotted, or wrote then where would we be today? True, there is racist family guy now, but really we aren't that far removed time-wise from the cartoons in this vid. Rome wasn't built in a day
@yummieyummie123 my original question even if Dumbo had a slight racial dispute why do people point out racism in it but dont give a shit when its something like Family Guy? even IF it's considered an adult cartoon that doesnt mean it shouldnt be on the same list to hate on and children dont see Dumbo in that way anyway! They are of the innocent archetype and they'll only see it if people randomly go out saying its racist, which doesnt help the side of people "fighting" it btw
Saying this isn't racism because it's "of that time" and therefore "that's just how it was back then" is stupid. If that's true, then the holocaust was "just of it's time," it was OK and NORMAL to do then, to burn people and starve them and gas them which it wasn't. It was horrible! It was horrible THEN and it's HORRIBLE NOW. and it See how that sounds stupid as hell? Racism is racism no matter the date, kids. It's RACISM then and it's RACISM now. Don't fool yourselves.
actually, youre wrong, the holocaust was a result of the eugenic practices alive and well of the time, and the now :"racial": depictions where of the time
@squirlboy006 You are missing my point. I am not saying anything about the reasons behind both events... my point is that regardless of the reasons, they are both wrong. That's my point. The argument that eugenics or racism was "of that time" I believe is a poor excuse to attempt to pardon both evil atrocities. It's still wrong, and when people say "it was of it's time" it's a poor attempt to lessen and diminish something that is not right, no matter the reasons.
Who has and continues to have a stronger hold over others in the US? White males. It's factual and documented, but if you don't believe me, Just ask "PoC" and Women. Who were the masters during the golden age of Animation? Tex Avery, Walt Disney, Bob Clampett, etc... all White males. Voila.
@yummieyummie123 Funny thing is that teh most racist people on Earth are actually black people... you know another continent where people are killing eachother because they belong to different ethnic groups???? There are 3 or 4 countries in Africa that have civil wars like that at this very moment.
Also afro-americans are among the most racist people in the world... they blame everything on white people. How about going to school and getting a decent job like asians do in USA
@HachimitsuBoy85 lol... people still say this? This argument is empty and I'll tell you why, calmly, that you don't fully know the definition of racism in the US (where these were made), which is POWER+ prejudice, so your first sentence is incorrect. You REALLY mean to say that black people are prejudice, which is arbitrary, not factual, and doesn't add anything to this specific conversation. (to be continued).
@HachimitsuBoy85 I wonder if you are american, a troll, or a white nationalist variant. I see you have a trend of this afro-bashing from looking at your blog I can see your comments on other vids. Race relations in the US and the idea of the "model imigrant" asian are pervasive and racist. You can't honestly think that you can group and compare all black Americans to Asian Americans, who have a different historical relationship to whites in the US. These "stereotypes" have already been debunked,
first of all its mainly becuase of tribes and territory. it has nothing to do with the fact that they are black. if it was white people or asians who occupied a territory or something like that in africa that someone wanted it would be the same way. and never talk about ONE SPECIFIC race when saying anything bad or good. that right there is rascism AND stero typing. if you have statistic then state them but dont say stuff like ALL afro americans OR all asians blah blah blah that is rascism lol
I wonder if anyone takes the social views of the era into consideration before they label something as racist.
On a side note, I don't know why the crows from Dumbo are part of this. They were the ones who taught Dumbo to fly, so they are among the hero of the movie. Same with the Latino penguins in Happy Feet. And I have NO idea what Jungle book is in here for.
@KayValo87 Not that I agree with whoever made this video but I suppose he assumes the voice actor for the monkey was black and hence, the reason why it is grouped in.
@KayValo87 jim crow is a character used by white people to humiliate blacks by painting themselves black and dressing in shitty clothes, during the civil rights era in the south. and jungle books in there because "ape" is a racial slur against black people and hes saying "i wanna be like you" which means he wants to be equal to the white men. and the penguins arent all that racist.
@Xxjared333xX I can see how the jive talking crows can be viewed as racist. It could be seen as making fun of Blacks especially with a character named Jim Crow. Unless the animals in the jungle book were portraying racial groups in a denigrating manner I don't see anything racist about it. The Popeye scene with the Japanese was clearly racist. Racial stereotypes are very common in old cartoons and some still exist in the present unfortunately.
I wonder if you take a bunch of children of different ethnicities and raise them in an isolated society free from all racist cultural influence, would they naturally develop racist sentiments toward one another?

reason blacks hate hate the nigger word is the slaves was from the congo in africa, the ones that caught and sold them as slaves was from nigar, if you look in federal cencus of 1860 in newton county mississippi, more nigars owned slaves than white people did, So don't blame white people did to blacks, blacks did it to each other

@bill3old When people make this comment, it makes no sense. Regardless of who owned slaves, it was still wrong. It almost sounds like you are forgiving non-blacks for owning slaves just because some non-whites also owned slaves. It doesn't matter either way, it's still wrong. Slavery of all races has been going on since the beginning of time but it can never be justified.
gidiyup 3 weeks ago

@jerryfinsternumber9 they're only true, because people think they have to fit them.

The crows, which is a scene from Dumbo, is not from a children's cartoon. The argument falls flat right there. For anyone crying racism I put a question to you. well i find it crazy that people can talk about how bad these racist clips were back in the day. but look at the cartoons now. children cartoons and adult cartoons are showing racist scenes because it's "funny." This video shows that it has been going on a lot longer than we all thought. But if you have sometthing to say about the old cartoons, don't be bias and not say something about the one's today. right is right and wrong is wrong, don't make exceptions for the sake of "comedy."

I'm done. If you have a genuine question, like some of you here do, hit up my ask box. I'll let the racism lay out in the open air here to stink.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago

What you are doing is not using MLK's words against racism like MLK, you are using them to silence those speaking out against them, that by not speaking about it it will not exist, as if a child puts a blanket over his head and cant see, dad is really gone!

lordrazi111693 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 I love Aussies! Anyway, race relations are different in Australia than in the US, first of all. Australia has to deal with what people have done against the Aboriginal people, US has to deal with a legacy of slavery, civil rights. If anything, just understand that even if you don't see it yourself doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I replied again to your other comment explaining further. I'm interested in your thoughts.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 the US does seem to have had a different degree of race issues. a different level of bad news.
but that doesn't mean that one needs to look for ill in every corner.
take it with a smile. all my friend have completely different backgrounds.
just chance. we joke about race all the time.
even if the creators wanted to entertain kids by presenting a different accent or way of speech that is associated with a certain group doesn't mean we need to rush to call em racists.
lordrazi111693 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 I'm sorry but that way of thinking does more damage than good. It really does. "Color blindness" silences people's experiences and excuses racism and racist behaviours. Yes, mix it up! Be friends with people of different backgrounds, but that doesn't mean they leave their histories behind. That's asking them to become some1 else. They dont have to take anything with a smile, let alone racism which is another form of violence. Being in the US I see things first hand.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 no one is "looking" for it. It's there in our faces. You don't see it because you don't experience it and it doesn't effect you first hand. Also because there's a trend now to ignore these things, which isn't good. Notice how I never called them racists. I said these cartoons are racist or examples of racism. The title is RACISM in children's cartoons, not RACIST cartoon-makers.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 These are examples of racism. Entertainment is not an excuse, ever, esp. for the young impressionable minds of children. It's not just an "accent" in this one cartoon. It's one of the many EXTENDED unending, damaging and marginalizing stereotypes of blacks (stupid, slothful, big red lipped, uneducated, not well spoken, subhuman, singin', jivin') and Japanese (chinky, broken "engrish", and also makes fun of their culture of bowing). This was the only view shown.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 for fiction i shouldn't need to think of all the the possible histories and peoples that may be offended. it unreasonable and impractical. if u are black and that vid offended u the creator doesn't owe u anything.
thats my opinion. i could be wrong
lordrazi111693 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 sorry it took me so long to reply. com died. i blame the jews. :)
in reply to ur point about color blindness being a bad thing.i don't see how? it does not silence people's experiences. and it does not require people leaving their history behind. it just means that if i make a film and i have a black guy do the monkey voice there is nothing wrong with that. nobody would have complained if it was a Scottish accent on the monkey.
lordrazi111693 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 Just because you don't see the racism doesn't mean that it's not there. I said previously that the experiences of marginalized people can't be ignored just because I myself don't see it/ don't experience it. Exp: I'm not a gay man or disabled, but when a LGBT or disabled person talk about their experiences of homophobia/ discrimination, I can't deny it's not there. I must acknowledge that I have able-body privilege & heterosexual privilege, I don't get the same treatment as them.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 just because i don't see pain or hurt doesn't mean its not there. true
however if i see a cartoon. and there are talking animals. and some of the animals are black as matching their color in real life i find it hard to see how that can be offensive.
because of the way they talk?
its entertainment. its meant to get little kids watching. i doubt u had ppl sitting thinking: " lets make the monkey secretly represent a black man."
lordrazi111693 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 EXACTY! They weren't even thinking because it was the norm to cast minorities, who were widely already considered inferior to whites, where PoC's homes and businesses could be burned down, where people could lynch another man based on the color of his skin and get away with it as "innocent funny stereotypes." It was normalized and never second guessed. That's why color-blindness is so dangerous.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 Without dialogue, these cartoons continue these stereotypes and racist thoughts unchecked. That's why people must talk about it, see it for what it is. I'm not saying throw these cartoons away. I'm not saying they don't have good qualities, because they do. I'm saying see the racism for what it is. The Jewish holocaust included a lot of good people looking the other way until it got too bad to ignore and thousands had already died. It only takes that kind of thinking.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@lordrazi111693 the damage is when that's seen as the "black way of talking," because it's not. There are plenty of educated blacks and asians who speak english well, and there are plenty of whites who do and who don't. The damage is when the entertainment becomes the normalized stereotype. Imagine an impressionable black or asian child seeing this wondering if that's what he really is, and always seeing these images? It's damaging. Privilege can blind us to these things.

crows from Dumbo isnt racism....can you give me a valid reason of why it is? ("because they are black and are singing old timey music" doesnt cut it) same thing with Jungle Book wtf?
crazychris1123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 its not that it's just that blacks are singing to some music so now it's racist. Racism doesn't work that way. Racism is systematic where a group has power + prejudice. Racist minstrel entertainment has existed throughout US history. Repeatedly blacks have been branded as subhuman, savage and have been dehumanized though minstruel songs, nursury rhymes, advertisements. It's racist because it's ANOTHER harmful imitation and mocery of black people.Does that help answer ur question?
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 To add to your ? more specifically, the crows allude to Jim Crow, a (blackface) minstrel character. Blackface is racist and harmful (just like yellow face which makes fun of Asians) partially because it's exclusively negative traits are be taken as truth and in turn, have other people (and members of that race) believe these traits are true, which they aren't.You can see my other comments to this vid about y the Jungle book ape is a racist character.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 but why do people have to point out flaws in Dumbo? cant they just let it be? people say crap about it all the time acting like its going to do something..the movie was made already and it was great its a classic. Wasting time explaining who its racist is only taking time away from that persons life. I am 50% African American but you dont see me complaining about this or the Jungle Book. I saw both when i was a kid have NO problems with it then EVERYONE has to ruin the movie
crazychris1123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 Good questions! I do not believe pointing out racism ruins the movie. Something can be classic and good for other reasons but still very much racist. Pointing out racism like this is important for many reasons. Please understand that, to someone who identifies as Black (or not! they don't have to to be offended by minstrel blackface or racism) there is a legacy of this constant and normalized imagery that carries with it ideas that linger on today. (to be continued)
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 (continued) I don't think it's fair to ask somone to be silent about racism because of it's potential to make others uncomfortable because to many who's identity is distorted by things like this (and things much much worse) who have to live their lives around this stereotype of "jiveness" and "coonery"... it's elitist to act like someone should not speak about it. (to be continued, 2)
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 Lastly, It DOES do something. Yes, the movie was already made and that can't be undone. But now people have to talk about it so that it doesn't happen again, because we really aren't that far removed from this. it's not that old and don't believe that just because we have a mixed Pres. racial tensions don't still exist. If people live life at face value and ignore racism and silence people who speak on it, we are still OKing it. Which is bad!
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 Sorry I'm writing you so much, it's because I want to be thorough in addressing your questions in a 300 character space lol. Your identity as a biracial/multiracial person is important, but it also doesn't negate blacks and other multiracial people's anger/frustration/sadness or whatever reaction they have to these examples of racism. By not speaking about it like it's not there at all because it's a negative thing will not progress us forward. :-) Good questions.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 I understand that racism is bad but you have to have noticed that in many shows racism still occurs even in many jokes but people laugh it off (Family Guy, South Park, Simpsons EVEN kids shows like Pokemon and Dragonball Z were scolded for "accidental" racial profiling...Racism will NOT dissolve no matter which way you put it. There will always be a racist person in the world and/or racist quotes so why not ignore it? I'm sorry to disagree but speaking does not help at all.
crazychris1123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 Different strokes for different folks. I just believe that if nobody ever spoke up shit would never get done at all. It could have ended up a lot differently. I wouldn't count out all the people who spoke up about it, and made the world a better place for doing so. I choose realism with a healthy dose of optimism. :-) Good speaking to you :-)
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 that doesnt really answer my question you went completely around it but ok lol

Rome wasn't built in a day
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@crazychris1123 What exactly are you asking? Why speak out about racism?
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 my original question even if Dumbo had a slight racial dispute why do people point out racism in it but dont give a shit when its something like Family Guy? even IF it's considered an adult cartoon that doesnt mean it shouldnt be on the same list to hate on and children dont see Dumbo in that way anyway! They are of the innocent archetype and they'll only see it if people randomly go out saying its racist, which doesnt help the side of people "fighting" it btw
crazychris1123 2 months ago
Saying this isn't racism because it's "of that time" and therefore "that's just how it was back then" is stupid. If that's true, then the holocaust was "just of it's time," it was OK and NORMAL to do then, to burn people and starve them and gas them which it wasn't. It was horrible! It was horrible THEN and it's HORRIBLE NOW. and it See how that sounds stupid as hell? Racism is racism no matter the date, kids. It's RACISM then and it's RACISM now. Don't fool yourselves.
yummieyummie123 3 months ago 17
@yummieyummie123
actually, youre wrong, the holocaust was a result of the eugenic practices alive and well of the time, and the now :"racial": depictions where of the time
squirlboy006 2 months ago
@squirlboy006 You are missing my point. I am not saying anything about the reasons behind both events... my point is that regardless of the reasons, they are both wrong. That's my point. The argument that eugenics or racism was "of that time" I believe is a poor excuse to attempt to pardon both evil atrocities. It's still wrong, and when people say "it was of it's time" it's a poor attempt to lessen and diminish something that is not right, no matter the reasons.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 Sooo when Elmer Fudge the white hunter does the same thing it isn't racist?

@HachimitsuBoy85 nope. Racism is Power+prejudice.
Who has and continues to have a stronger hold over others in the US? White males. It's factual and documented, but if you don't believe me, Just ask "PoC" and Women. Who were the masters during the golden age of Animation? Tex Avery, Walt Disney, Bob Clampett, etc... all White males. Voila.
yummieyummie123 2 months ago
@yummieyummie123 Funny thing is that teh most racist people on Earth are actually black people... you know another continent where people are killing eachother because they belong to different ethnic groups???? There are 3 or 4 countries in Africa that have civil wars like that at this very moment.
Also afro-americans are among the most racist people in the world... they blame everything on white people. How about going to school and getting a decent job like asians do in USA
HachimitsuBoy85 2 months ago
@HachimitsuBoy85 lol... people still say this? This argument is empty and I'll tell you why, calmly, that you don't fully know the definition of racism in the US (where these were made), which is POWER+ prejudice, so your first sentence is incorrect. You REALLY mean to say that black people are prejudice, which is arbitrary, not factual, and doesn't add anything to this specific conversation. (to be continued).
yummieyummie123 2 months ago

@KayValo87 Not that I agree with whoever made this video but I suppose he assumes the voice actor for the monkey was black and hence, the reason why it is grouped in.
refusesnoriver 3 months ago
@KayValo87 jim crow is a character used by white people to humiliate blacks by painting themselves black and dressing in shitty clothes, during the civil rights era in the south. and jungle books in there because "ape" is a racial slur against black people and hes saying "i wanna be like you" which means he wants to be equal to the white men. and the penguins arent all that racist.
Xxjared333xX 3 months ago
@Xxjared333xX I can see how the jive talking crows can be viewed as racist. It could be seen as making fun of Blacks especially with a character named Jim Crow. Unless the animals in the jungle book were portraying racial groups in a denigrating manner I don't see anything racist about it. The Popeye scene with the Japanese was clearly racist. Racial stereotypes are very common in old cartoons and some still exist in the present unfortunately.
