@EKB316 And the crazy thing is that he wasn't in all that many game shows...He wasn't a career game show host, like Bob Barker and most of the other greats
@EKB316 I think you're right about that. It's just too bad he wasn't the host for the 2002 "Pyramid" version. Donny Osmond, as hard as he tried, didn't quite cut it.
@professor0526 Dude, I'm scared now than I was before Donny Osmond was named host. I heard that ANDY RICHTER was supposed to be the host for the newest incarnation of "Pyramid"

@professor0526 That was the key thing. He gets comfortable, we get comfortable with him, he makes the show his own, and boom! The Price is Right still has life.

the hottest tv game show theme ever! im lovin' this, takes me back in the day. the horns make this song, but the bassline, beat, and rhodes are so sweet!
@ professor0526 Davidson was awesome!! dnt dis Davidson i grew up watching him on the squares and Osmond was ok, but Dick Clark will ALWAYS be the mastermind of Pyramid
@now316 I actually agree with you...i never really got to see the 80s version of Hollywood Squares, and out of the clips i've seen here, he's pretty good on there, so much so i wish GSN would broadcast those episodes of "Squares". But i agree, he wasn't quite at ease on "Pyramid" and it showed. As for Osmond, he was probably the best host the producers could find and he did a good job with the format and set he was given. That said, i still hate that dark set...lol
@jmjfanss Not me....the set they had for "Donnymid" was just way way too dark for me...i like lots of lights....the other thing that turned me off was when they used those darned monitors instead of trillions....i missed hearing them turn like in the original series...but i guess i'm rather old-school compared to some ;)
@professor0526 I've never heard it called "Donnymid," but you're right. One more thing I didn't like about that show was that there was no "$100,000" sign at the top of the Pyramid. And that theme song... I was ready to vomit!
@PatrioticPirate I was ready to vomit myself when i heard that song....maybe even if they couldn't get the original, they could have got something better than what they had...and if i hadn't seen the other shows in the series when i was little, i wouldn't have figured out what the show was about...they could have easily called it "The New $100,000 Pyramid" or something. But as i've said earlier, Donny Osmond was certainly a good host given his lack of previous game show-hosting experience
@professor0526 I'll go with you on the hosting of the show. Donny would be a good host, but between the music, and the missing elements from The Pyramid itself, this was spoiled in the freezer.
I used to love this theme as a kid. I remember as kid making prank calls on my neighbor's phone and she would say No time for playing games, This not no Game Show!...LOL!
@DetroitLove4U I love how the theme has this '70s R&B-ish vibe to it once the bass and Rhodes Piano kick in toward the end of the song... Ol' skool, right? :-)
@gameshowluvr86 It's truly funny that I'm nearly 32 years of age and as a small child I caught this game show back in the mid to late 80's! Honestly, your reply is very synonymous with my take on it all this time. I had downloaded this exact extended version and had rolled around town in my SUV blasting this beat on my Kenwood stereo with down fire12's even with a friend and we were having a blast!!! I miss the days I guess I missed because I was too young or just not quite born yet!!
I've heard a rumor that Cbs is considering reviving Pyramid to replace As the World Turns when the latter gets cancelled in September of 2010. If that's true, they'd better not fuck it up like what happened with Osman's version! Keep it 1980's style! Show appreciation for the man who made Pyramid what it is, that man being the one and only Dick Clark! Same theme song, same sounds, same logo, same gameplay, same everything! Looks like Daytime Game Shows could be making a comeback!
I hope you're right... hopefully they find someone who a: knows how to host a game show and b: knows how to host a game show. Donnymid still leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. (I wonder if CBS still has my application to host????)

Pyramid Favorites such as Mary Cadorette, Richard Kline, the late Nathan Cook, the late Nipsey Russell, the late David Graf, Singer Audrey Landers, Earl Holliman, Martha Smith, Ed Begley, Jr., Ilene Graf, Henry Polic II , Brian Stokes Mitchell, Charles Siebert, Game Show Legend Betty White, Game Show Queen Vicki Lawrence, Pyramid Sweetheart Teresa Ganzel, Game Show Goddess Markie Post, Pyramid Diva Shelley Smith, and Pyramid Phenom Adrienne Barbeau.
Not to mention Patty Duke, Billy Crystal, Brian Mitchell, Terry Lester, Bill Cullen, Dick Clark (yes, he guest starred), Joanne Worley, LeVar Burton, Lynn Redgrave, and Barry Jenner
This theme rocks, and especially whenever somebody wins money in the Winner's Circle whether it be $10,000 $25,000 or even $100,000, but this version also had the 7-11 and the Mystery 7 and of course a $5000 Bonus for 21-21 Tiebreaker.
No one does Pyramid like Dick Clark and Bill Cullen, Donny Osmond's had too many strict judges & John Davidson ruins the Winner's Circle Wins, and the set was designed by Ed Flesh who also did Chain Reaction, GO, Sale of the Century, SCRABBLE & America's Top 10
The Intro to the CBS/Syndicated Pyramid always sounded better than $10K/ $20K/ Syndicated $25K/ $50K Pyramid shows cuz they didn't have the "From Television City in Hollywood" in it. It seams to me, watching these as a kid on the USA network, that $25K Pyramid and $100K Pyramid were paired in a 1 hour block.
You what's funny: when I was a little kid listening to the theme song to the $25K and $100K Pyramids back in the day, I used to always think this theme song sounded so funny to me. But now, it's one of my top favortie classic GS themes of all-time!!!
I agree with you; it is one of my favorites along with the themes for "Press Your Luck," "Card Sharks" (1978-1981 version), "Hit Man," and "High Rollers" (1987-1988 version).
This joint is just so hip-hop! Peace.

Someone should do a remix of the old theme with a hip hop feel.

The pic of Dick is seen on the cover of January 1987 TV Game $how Magazine, complete with Xmas themed Winner's Circle categories.
