As an Oklahoma fan, I was shocked when this call was made. While the Ducks fascinate me, and I far from hate them, I deplore these officials. I want to throw up every time I see this clip. The game should'nt have counted as a loss.

It's the continuous douchebaggery of their fan base acting as if this was no big deal. The ball was popped straight up into the air without having been bounced off the ground. I was at this game with greats seats and saw it clearly. That means the receiving team has a right to catch the ball free from interference. Oregon should have been flagged.

Not to in any way excuse the series of horrible decisions made by the referees, but the Oklahoma player who recovered the ball really should have shown it to the referees sorting through the pile rather than just nonchalantly walking away. I'm pretty sure that one referee signaled Oregon's football just because Oregon players were the last ones to get up and he assumed one of them had it.
The fact that they couldn't get together and correct that obvious mistake was the real crime, though.

So, the refs said the Oregon player recovered the ball and was down before the Oklahoma player recovered the ball. That part isn't even reviewable and cannot be reversed. Oregon must retain the ball since the play was whistled dead while they had posession. The only argument Oklahoma has is whether the ball in fact went ten yards before an Oregon player touched it. That part of the video isn't clear.

The biggest joke here was the idiot claiming that there was "conclusive evidence" when such a thing did not exist at all! The OU player even emerged quite clearly with the ball and handed it to the ref, so Oregon NEVER had possession of the ball that was awarded to them! How the hell can someone watch a replay and not notice that a Duck NEVER HAD THE BALL! This game cost OU a shot at the title that season, as they had a good chance to play OSU in lieu of Florida if they had only the one loss.

if you look at it from just the right angle... i can see how the ref thought that OU touched it first. I mean the oregon guys blend into the grass with the ugly green unis, so the blind refs probably thought that the oregon player was just the grass that the ball bounced off of. then when the OU player picked the ball up apparently recovering it... the blind refs probably thought that he was pulling it away from an oregon player. when in fact he was really just picking it up off the grass.

That was probably the worst call I've ever seen in a football game. They say it is hard to win in Eugene and I think this pretty much shows the reason why. Adrian Peterson ran all over Oregon in the 2nd half and it was really bad to see Oklahoma have a gave taken away from them like that.

Dan Fouts is wonderful because he doesn't mince words, not even on behalf of his alma mater. Terrible call. It affected the outcome of the game. But would the bowl and championship picture been affected had OU won? It would have been a campaign between 12-1 Florida vs 12-1 OU for the right to play Ohio State in the title game. Florida had the tougher conference schedule, but OU lined up better nonconference opponents. The edge probably would have gone to Fla.

But even if the refs did witness that Patrick had the ball, would they have done anything? These refs might be as inept as the ones who called the Rutgers-St. John's basketball game this past year.

They literally went to the pile up and went through the motions of acting like an official, and after playing the part....awarded the ball to Oregon. If the ball never slipped out of the pile, the pre-determined call wouldve been harder to determine, and that's exactly what happened....the fix was in on this game.

Not to in any way excuse the series of horrible decisions made by the referees, but the Oklahoma player who recovered the ball really should have shown it to the referees sorting through the pile rather than just nonchalantly walking away. I'm pretty sure that one referee signaled Oregon's football just because Oregon players were the last ones to get up and he assumed one of them had it.
The fact that they couldn't get together and correct that obvious mistake was the real crime, though.

By the way, the voice saying it was 'a bad call- it was a horrible call" is none other than the Alumni Oregon Duck Quarterback, Danny Fouts.
Don't blame the officiating on the players - whether they are Oregon or Oklahoma. It was the guy supposedly watching the reruns in the booth that missed the obvious call.

The refs clearly whistled the play dead before the Oklahoma player ever recovered the ball. So, the refs said the Oregon player recovered the ball and was down before the Oklahoma player recovered the ball. That part isn't even reviewable and cannot be reversed. Oregon must retain the ball since the play was whistled dead while they had posession. The only argument Oklahoma has is whether the ball in fact went ten yards before an Oregon player touched it. That part of the video isn't clear.

I remember when this happened. This wasn't the only play that the refs blew this game.
But, on this play, they got sooo much shit wrong.
A. Oregon touched the ball first.
B. The kick was touched by Oregon before it went 10 yards.
C. If that isn't enough for you, Oregon didn't even RECOVER THE BALL!
There was even instant replay, and they still screwed up the call. I don't know what they were thinking at all. Not even close.

The biggest joke here was the idiot claiming that there was "conclusive evidence" when such a thing did not exist at all! The OU player even emerged quite clearly with the ball and handed it to the ref, so Oregon NEVER had possession of the ball that was awarded to them! How the hell can someone watch a replay and not notice that a Duck NEVER HAD THE BALL! This game cost OU a shot at the title that season, as they had a good chance to play OSU in lieu of Florida if they had only the one loss.

if you look at it from just the right angle... i can see how the ref thought that OU touched it first. I mean the oregon guys blend into the grass with the ugly green unis, so the blind refs probably thought that the oregon player was just the grass that the ball bounced off of. then when the OU player picked the ball up apparently recovering it... the blind refs probably thought that he was pulling it away from an oregon player. when in fact he was really just picking it up off the grass.

Wow, i remembered this like any OU fan does. But this highlight just shows how terrible it was. This is why refs and umpires should not drink beer and smoke weed before they call a game. And on top of it all, there was no penalty on the replay official or the ref on the field. Talk about not caring. Thanks alot NCAA.

That was probably the worst call I've ever seen in a football game. They say it is hard to win in Eugene and I think this pretty much shows the reason why. Adrian Peterson ran all over Oregon in the 2nd half and it was really bad to see Oklahoma have a gave taken away from them like that.

Dan Fouts is wonderful because he doesn't mince words, not even on behalf of his alma mater. Terrible call. It affected the outcome of the game. But would the bowl and championship picture been affected had OU won? It would have been a campaign between 12-1 Florida vs 12-1 OU for the right to play Ohio State in the title game. Florida had the tougher conference schedule, but OU lined up better nonconference opponents. The edge probably would have gone to Fla.
