  • I agree that the Joffrey ballet version is much more powerful because of it primativistic approach. I could certainly imagine children responding to this music in this way. I am not saying that the approach is not childish in any way except for the very direct, untutored ways children might react to this music. It pounds, they stamp their feet .

  • Gergiev extraordinaire mais chorégraphie (petits sautillements trépignant !) et surtout costumes (les petites indiennes avec leurs nattes !) carrément tartignoles. ils n'ont jamais connu Béjart semble-t-il ! Dommage !

  • where's the passion? where's the primitive power?

The Joffrey Ballet version is so much better than this.

  • @toomuchrose. This performance is as close as we are ever likely to seeo of the way it was at the premiere in 1913. If you prefer one of the dozens-and-dozens of versions staged since then, that's fine. They are all derivatives of this.

  • @palubob Uh, no. The Joffrey didn't dance "one of the dozens of versions". In fact, the Mariinsky is doing the choreography and costuming that the Joffrey Ballet revived in the 80's from Nijinsky's notes. Except this is too refined and perfect, and their is less abandon in the dance.

  • @noodleinmybarf. Are you suggesting that Hodson copied the Joffrey choreography, without attribution, and that she, Archer and others merely copied the Joffrey costumes and sets?

  • individually they remind me of clowns, but all together, they're like an army. Beautiful ballet
