  • Thanks

  • Thanks for everything Andrew, I saw all your videos on the how to play piano series and now I'm starting this ones. If it weren't for you I would never have the opportunity to learn piano or music theory. Thank you very much indeed. ;)

  • ive been quite interested in learning how to change key signatures and this is the greatest lesson i could have asked for. thanks

  • the minor pentatonic is the exact same scale as the relative major pentatonic A minor pentatonic =c major pentatonic

  • sun tzu

  • At exactly 10:01, the video just stops. Any attempts to move it beyond fail.

  • Fantastic! Thanks for the lesson.

Question: If we took the structure of the D Major scale and built a pentatonic scale wouldn't we get D,E,F#,A,B? I believe you said, "D,E,G,A,C". at 15:13

  • @br1an419 Ughhh...yes I made a mistake! I ment to say F#. I didn't notice I said that until you pointed it out... Thanks for letting me know.

  • @br1an419

your right that there is a F# in the D maj pentatonic , but at the time he said starting on any other note

within the C maj pentatonic scale ( D ) it will still sound good (in other words a mode ) which just means start on a different note of the same scale which was C maj pentatonic .

then he talked about the D maj to just drop the 4th and 7th degree's in the scale

    @Andrew

i don't think you made a mistake there . Anyway great work on your vid's thx for your time and effort

  • hahahaha i was like yelling sun tsu at the screen when you mentioned the art of war lolz. thank you for this. tremendous help with composing piano music

  • minor pentatonic would just be described as major pentatonic starting on the 6th degree (minor mode) 6-1-2-3-5 i believe? same scale alteration as major scale. C major pentatonic is same as A minor pentatonic.

  • Just a small correction on "number of tones": it is usually implied that the number of tones in a scale is the number of different notes in it (not counting the repeated note in the end!). The whole tone scale is said to have 6 tones, and the usual major and minor scales are heptatonic scales - which means "7 tones", not 8.

  • The tune Overtaken from the cartoon One Piece uses a minor pentatonic scale starting on A for its main theme.

  • why fuss around memorizing the specific intervals of the minor pentatnic when you can think of it as simply the last mode of the major pentatonic.

Since you were in C and A is the 6th of C major.. could you just refer to the minor pentatoinc and a aeolin mode of the major pent? to keep it simple

You could call it the myxolydain since it's the 5th of the pent but.... meh keep it releative to the major it make sit easier to reference it... is this contrary to what a music class would teach?

  • sorry about the fail on the treble cleft. Lawl!

  • Sir, it would be nice if we can go and examine a really simple piece and in a way get a review of how things have been applied there. Like a walk-through sort of thing.

This would help by giving concreteness to the theories through seeing how they are applied.

Also, I'm very interested in how instruments work in an orchestra.

    Thanks.

  • You stop for a while and return back ? you make me laugh man !! XD

  • wow when I played along when you said c d e f g a b c it was actually correct! :D

  • I'm addicted to your music theory lessons. Keep them coming, it gets more and more complex and more and more interesting at the same time. :D

  • Once again, thanks for the lessons!

If you're not going to do harmonics, maybe you can refer some materials so someone like me, who's interested in going as far as I can musically, can start to learn them.

Know of any good resources online? Or books?

Thanks again, keep up the great work. You're awesome.

  • Even though i'm still doing the level 1 course... (i'm learning terms at the moment)

It's great to see that your still doing them :)

How far do you plan to go up to?

  • Andrew, have you ever thought about the possibility of creating a few lessons or tips for playing the piano for people with visual problems?

That would help me a lot. I have double vision and it would help me so much if I didn't have to look at the keys at all. If I close my eyes, I get dizzy and really off time

  • @criss1956 Sorry, but I don't know how I would go about making such a lesson...

  • wow

  • I love your videos..But could you not give an example at your piano, it would be really cool to help understand what you're talking about :D

  • @blb8530 I was thinking of it, but I didn't actually do it. I do give one example in the next lesson though ;) I'll be uploading the next one on thursday night or friday morning depending where you live.

  • @Lypur I live in Begium...so probably it would be friday morning :D

Just asking, will you upload more 'learn piano' videos?

  • @blb8530 once i finish up with music theory. I'll probably go back to teaching more piano in the future when I think of something that i could make a video on.

  • WOW!! another one so soon!!! glorious heaven! :D

  • @Airvtz heh :) yes! The weather has been hot for most of the summer here, and when it's hot I don't record because my lights put out so much heat. I had a nice cool stretch, so i've been recording when I can!

  • @Lypur awesome! hot weather is awful i hate it , i love it when its cold,

    see you soon cheers!! :D

  • @Lypur Hot in Canada? The heat index here in Panama City Beach, FL was 114 degrees the other day. That what about 45c or so?

My wife is from Finland and wanted me to try the Finish sauna. I told her that when we want to go to the sauna here, we just go sit on the front porch. Now, she understands.

  • Very interesting! A subtle ladder for scale transposition. I hadn't noticed this pattern from the circle of 5ths.

How did you manage to get a 20 min lesson uploaded?

You should be thanked for sharing your skill and time. I hope people appreciate your lessons.

  • im only on lesson 14 on learning to play piano and i wanted to see wat this vid looks like and omg. i understand nothing. looks too complicated

  • Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War

  • Thank You so much for uploading these videos!
