• OR OF The Golden Girls!!! LOL;D

WoW, you had me, once again, completely mesmerzed!

It's so true.. how we tend to so quickly pigeon-hole people.. Because it's so easy! We don't have to spend too much of our selfish time THINKing about what this person IS! The whole totality of the person! I wiLL have a look at Paul's vid in the a.m.! YOU are a FIVE-STAR TOUR GUIDE! ;D

  • Thanks, Anni. One moment of reflection about ourselves and others reveals the superficiality of our categorizations...but most of us don't bother to take that second.

  • Wheeww! Am I glad to find thiss one again! ..Somewhere between the Library and Africa, on my journeys herein, I LoST my waaay, and I never got back to see Renetto's video HERE I was s'posed to! {huff-puff!} ..I'll make it up noww! ..--that's what I get for cheating and going back to some of your EARLYest features! ..perhaps a roadmap is called for. ;D

  • I saw Renetto's vlog at last the other night! It was really interesting to me because my father was an electronics engineer, going through many of the trial-and-error times Paul did! And to hear the process of such things, it was really enlightening! Allll 30 whatever minutes of it! lol THANKS muffriend! xD

  • Well, that's what creativity is: trial, error, learning, revising. Repeat. Welcome, Anni.

  • Wise words from an obviously wise man. The box is closing in as the worlds changes faster - take this man's advice and think and live outside of the box! Great vid!

  • Kind of you to say so. Appreciated.

  • You ALMOST convinced me to re-subscribe to Renetto... I think (after I finish watching you) I will subscribe to YOU. ... yuck. that sounds supercilious. Okay. Fine. I will try to open my mind. - roc Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Roc, you and I both know Renetto's a big bundle of stuff to deal with, all over the map. I like some of what he does very much, some of what he does not so much, some not at all. That said, I think he's consistently worth checking out. Appreciate the sub, for sure.

  • Okaaaaay. <whining, big sigh> I'll try to watch him. But, I'm NOT subscribing. I'll visit once in a while and put a post-it on my screen to remind me. - r

  • Now that's what I call the response of a, and I mean this in the most respectful ways possible, mature woman. That big sigh is always the signal that sense has prevailed!

I'll be interested in hearing your reactions.

  • Excellent vlog Tom.

On of the things i like about this site, is that it allows some of us to show a different side to ourselves, that might otherwise be hidden. This may in turn lead us on to new horizons, who knows? :)

  • It certainly does, Andy. As for new horizons, I've just posted a video about just that subject.

  • I'd better go & check it out :)

  • In most organizations though, you get punished by not being what they expect you to be. You have to turn yourself into a pigeon, at least in appearances to survive. They won't even let you use the phone until you are telephone certified with a piece of paper.

  • Oh yeah, dex, the conspiracy to keep pigeons in holes is widespread! Some, not all, of the conspirators actually live inside our heads!!

  • At least I'm clear in my own mind that my organization that I work with is super silly most of the time. If I wasn't clear about the lunacy of what goes on, I would get carried away by the insanity current.

  • Super silly or supercilious? (Sorry...couldn't resist!)

  • both

  • not surprised.

  • Believe me Tom, I know only 2 well what you're talking about. As a young aspiring documentary filmmaker I've had deal with constant setbacks & disappointments. Things almost never go the way you think, these kinds of Industries are difficult enough 2 get into without having 2 deal with trying 2 stay in them. Aspiration & ambition can be soul destroying cause creativity can't be bottled up, it has to be expressed and it makes you afraid. Afraid to take the risks you know you have to. Nice vid.

  • I like that: "...it has to be expressed and it makes you afraid." I know exactly what you're talking about. Stay strong. Thanks.

  • long videos is more than okay. I love the unedited. The point, the essence always feels more..real.. when its woven into a bigger context, when its inhabitet by a long silence or whatever. It just.. i mean, those pauses or this nonsense around makes it kind of feel more.

  • I struggle with pauses, 'cause I'm always makin' it up as I go along. I also think in "spirals" so that I zero in on a target...an idea I have a sense of but don't yet have well-thought-through...which means circling around the idea rather than zooming straight at it.

  • IM GLAD YOU DID 2 VIDS I LIKE YOUR VIDS !

  • Thanks, Sonia. Been a while since I've done that.

  • I think we have an all star cast doing the comments here. Yes that is Paul for you.

  • I always know when I've do something wright... I get a response from the Father of YouTube... thank you so much and thanks for giving me some direction on my next video...

  • My pleasure! Looking forward to it.

    Love,

    Dad

  • Great catch and analysis, was a excellent video. I don't subscribe to renetto anymore, but that one made me re-subscribe.

  • I think he's such an interesting and complex guy. Some of his videos aren't super engaging, but then, that's true for all of us, right? I find much of what he does fascinating. Thanks.

  • Another great response, thanks man for this.

  • Appreciate that.

  • I'm a Renetto watcher and a tlg847 watcher :)

Great video as always Tom, you have great perspective. Paul is a really fascinating person and his videos where he shares his stories are so real and captivating.

  • I agree, Michael, and your videos are very interesting as well.

  • FIVE STARS,,,,and the situation with longer videos,,,,hummmmmmm,,,, i hope this is a TREND

  • Thanks, rodney. You got this ball rollin' for me...ah, jeez, don't encourage me to do this long stuff!

  • How do we acquire these skills? Same way we do any others, Steve: understanding their "why," "what," and "how." Why are they important? What does success look like? How can you achieve that success?

I'm eager to see the paper.

  • It's definitely difficult to change models and the difference between succeeding at education and at work entails a very big change. I assume by "jigsaw" you mean having to collaborate closely with others, which is the essence of work in today's interconnected, networked world, where jobs intersect by design. Thanks for the kind words.

  • It was a very interesting video. I'm facing that problem, and so are my friends now in college. Job security is a major point in many peoples reasons for becoming engineers.

  • It's pretty incredible, isn't it? Trying to scope out where the world is going at this rate? Better be an engineer who knows how to think and feel and design and not just copy. Otherwise: not so safe.

  • Yeah thats a big problem, another big problem is that for my school 75% of all civil engineering graduates end up in land development. That whole industry is not only slowing down a lot (housing market) but its also more on par with a drafter than any other field of study.

  • It's understandable that people go to where things look good at the moment, which is fine as long as we realize that they're not going to stay good in that place for very long. The drafting aspect of engineering is prime automation territory, isn't it?

  • Hmm well I wouldnt say that its prime territory yet. But with all these ITT techs and Devrys offering 6 month drafting programs, there are a lot of people going into it, and it doesnt require a 4 year degree.

  • Amen. I agree with you. =:0) Maria

PS. I have to say that though I am a Redskin (redhawk - sigh) and a Muskateer, you're not so bad for a Flyer.

  • Well, your Southern Ohio heritage (unfortunate though it may be!) makes your "Amen agreement" all the more meaningful! Thanks very much.

  • I'm not a Renetto watcher, but I'll have to go over and check out this video. It's always interesting to hear how certain people think and how they use the skills that they have.

  • I'll be interested to hear your thoughts, Russ. Paul's a fascinating person and he delivers some powerful advice in this video.

  • That was encouraging for me to hear Tom. Change and the speed of change is unpredictable today. One of the things I am hearing you say is to keep on learning and growing new skills so that when I do see a new opportunity I will be prepared to take advantage of it. Great message. btw I love Lucy in South Park sounds like a winner to me :)

  • You couldn't be more right, 2/6. Be prepared, be nimble. That's the name of the game. I Love Lucy in South Park, holy shit!

  • I watched Paul's video earlier and I enjoyed it too. It is not too often that you get to hear the story of someone putting it all on the line in hopes of a payoff. 34 minutes may be a long time in Youtube terms but to me it was well worth it. Much like you though I hope that he shares some of his failed attempts too so that we see that everything isn't always peaches and cream. Take care Tom and great video.

  • Thanks. It's amazing to me that we get to hear and tell stories like these told by people we've come to know to be as complex as Paul is. Unique, really.
