Another good point is the fact that an older car will still allow you to do some of your own maintenance if you wish to save money : a modern car is full of 'black boxes' and pc interfaces. You'll be lucky if you can put air into the tyres without it being a 'dealership job'.
Its not a good idea at all is it! Its all about cash. Its not recycling, its scrapping good cars that are almost as clean running as the new ones that replace them. The production of a new car is hugely polluting. Yet the public fall for it AND the £2K saving on your new PRICE HIKED car is lost by the time you drive it home!
THEY JUST WANT US TO CONSUME AND GET INTO DEBT
Going green my A*****E.
So sell your old car for £500, and buy one a year old & save way more than £2k SIMPLE!
Woo - a grand off a car that should be discounted by more than that anyway, to meet demand like every bugger else has to when there's over-supply! I agree - buy used, you won't be hit with depreciation and you would have to be *very* unlucky to have to pay out as much to keep an older car running as it would to just buy a new one.
I'll be sticking with my Saab 9000 thank you very much. I've seen many Fiats (amongst many others) a lot less than 10 years old being scrapped. I should check to see how much the government get in purchase tax on a new car too - then you realise they're not so generous after all.
Ok this is the only deal that looks slightly appertizing. 5k for a nice new panda doesnt sound bad. But ethically the destrucition of perfectly good cars is completely and utterly wrong. Poor families will be priced off the road, beautiful classic cars will be destroyed, all this on top of the financial crisis and "eco" Tax. No dont do it! Buy yourself a used car for allot less and keep used motors in circulation. Fuck the governement and the finance brokers! BUY USED!
