My great aunt was gay, was in the land army in WWII, a district officer, and it caused big problems through her life as a teacher with rest room tittle-tattle, she lived with her friend until in her seventies until her friend had to go into a home because of her heaith. My great aunt was heartbroken, and a few years later she went in a home herself, but she lasted until 93 years of age. She was a brilliant lesbo.

I cannot stop listening to this song. I wish there were more like it. I am a fan of Ladytron's other songs, but there is nothing like Playgirl. The choice of instrumentation, the simple yet unique rhythm of the bassline (I love the parts underneath "tomorrow's world, hey playgirl) and the haunting, overlapping synth chords in the background, the near-silent but essential vocal harmonies... the cryptic lyrics.

Ladytron could be the best kept secret in the history of music. I haven't heard Helen's voice matched in any other band - save for maybe Morcheeba. She is a Greek siren, and the group has a refreshingly unique style. Check out the rest of their stuff and you won't be disappointed.
