  • i play percussion, (snare drum on this piece) and my middle school band and i have 2 play this (it might be for UIL.) just wondering, has anyone else ever noticed that robert sheldon's songs usually go fast, then slow down, then speed up again? :-)

  • thats usually how most composers write music... i feel that robert sheldon is one of the best in our time and WILL be cherished forever! I REALLY love his work.... especially A Longford Legend

  • Yes that is called an overture......

  • I played this song my junior year in high school. I was first chair first flute. Its a neat song to play

  • Our band is playing this and I am so scared! I can't do some of these more complicated baritone parts. Any words of advice?

  • @GothPunk32

Practice slowly. Also, familiarize yourself with your E-flat and G-flat major scales because those two are used for the more complicated solo lines you get near the end.

  • i play french horn, ya im in middle skewl, any advice?????????????????????om playing this for UIL and im scared. im almost last chair.

  • Haha,

someone pleaseee write back to me!(:

    Is this piece hard?

Lol,i need help cause i have UIL coming up.

  • Cassidy.

    No. It's not.

    ;)

  • Lol,Megannn!

    Thanks lol.

    && you checked it out!!

    hehe.

  • nahhh

  • @irockXyourXsocks not really the hardest parts are in the clarinet and flute parts

  • Lol,thank you.

    I play flute.

    Gah!XD

  • Its not hard at all, my honors band is playing this....it super fun!!!! :D

  • It depends what instrument you play and how much experience you have. If you play the euphonium, (which is what I play) then it's not all that hard. I'll ask the instrument in my band you play if it's hard if you tell me what instrument you play.

  • @ItsTechnologyTime

Im also play euphonium, the part is not hard at all. Considering Ive been playing baritone and euphonium for 6 years

  • @gerren623

    I've been playing it for 1 1/2.

I'm really good at it..my friend says.

I'm first chair supposedly, but im last cause im failing.

Anyways, yeah it's my second year honors band.

    It's pretty easy.

  • were playing this for UIL to. not braggin or anything I dont find it hard. Im second chair trumpet.

  • We played this at our third concert of the year and since then everyone will randomly play lines of it while they warm up, such an epic song!

  • My band just finished UIL and we had to play this song.

This band is really good, the only criticism is tuning, but that is just nit-picking.

  • woo hoo! we played this for uil......i luv this song

  • fancy seeing you gentleman here!

  • The melody at 1:20 and other parts of the song sounds really familiar. Anyone know what it's from? It's really bothering me!

  • HAHA dude i was just looking this song for myself and i find you were here too. nice.

  • i find it to sound a bit like bohemian rapsody at 1:20, but i dunno, thats just goin on a limb there, aha

  • im playing the solo in this piece for my band-euphonium

  • which band is playing this? it's really good!

  • This is a pretty fun song to play before 61 and after 137, in between those measure numbers, I would prefer to have more than a bunch of slurs for bassoon. I'm playing this for UIL (University Interscholastic League) on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 and my band has this song perfect and we love it!!

  • haha played it this year (my freshman year) in the fall.. it was a fun tune. pretty easy, too.

  • I played this song last year! The beginning and the end were my favorite parts because they just sounded so... how did my band director put it... jaunty!! That's the word! Sprite-like in other terms!

Also, I believe that the trumpet player messes up around 3:30; the solo note should have been continues, but not quote me on that one!

This piece is manageable, but keep in mind that expression, interpretation, and professionalism are the keys to truly fine performance. Playing notes on a paper is not enough.

This is a great recording! Thanks for the posting it.

  • No, I'm pretty sure the trumpet was correct. Pretty sure. Like you you said, it's all about interpretation. It sounded right to me.

  • na evan its really easy.... trust me

  • Wow, what band is playing this?

  • My middle school band is playing this... We are screwed.

  • you'll will pull it together. we played this my 7th grade year. its pretty easy once you've practiced it and learn the rhythms and have all the notes under your fingers. its really fun to play too.

  • also, just make sure the flutes and piccolo stay in tune with everyone else in the slow part.

  • its band music...

  • lmfao.

  • I can't even remember what I wrote (it doesnt appear now?), but apparently people didnt like it, ha haha
