Me and my dad were alone at the house one day, and he was remembering lyrics to this song that he heard on a drug education video when he was young.
Being the one at the computer who was looking up songs to listen to, he told me about this one, and how it was so obscure he doubted he was ever going to listen to it. Of course, I went into "Challenge Accepted" mode and looked up the lyrics, and found them on a website and who it was by.
Thanks so much for posting this fantastic song. I used to have the 45 but I left it my old Seeburg juke box when I sold it in the 80's I bought this record new in either 67 or 68. I remember it being the "B" side of some other song. Does anyone remember that song? Anyhow, I always though this was the better song. Thanks again!
Was the theme song of a documentary about the "dangers" of smoking weed and doing LSD my Mom's 8th grade science teacher made her and her class watch back in 1967 I think. Back in the hippie days.
Oh, my God... I've been searching for this song for 43 years. What a rush it is to hear it again!!! Does anybody know where it can be downloaded/purchased?
@MacBruce1 Did you check i tunes and I believe there to be another legal source...remember it may not be avaliable, as it's considered more rare. Did you check out Richard & the young Lions & The Shevelles on youtube ... I have these singles but little good that dose you unless you live in metro Vancouver, besides, there in back of the carport., making them impossible to get too! even for my sake. thx for postin'
@cafe9802 Thank you, yes I finally found it on iTunes! They had it hidden away in some obscure corner, but I found it. Thank you so much for the advice.
I heard it briefly on WPGC in the Washington, DC, area in the spring of 1967. I like it a lot better than the only other song of his that I knew back then, "Everyone's Gone to the Moon".
@rslitman was this possibly the "B" side to "Everyone's gone to the moon"? I had the 45 till the mid 80's then lost it. This is the first time I have heard this amazing song since 1984.
@Kevin19700 I remember "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" coming out in 1965, and this one was definitely on the radio in the spring of 1967. This was in the U.S. So the two of them likely were not originally on the same single. However, it's possible that they were on a reissue single together or coupled on a single in a country other than the U.S.
@TheHunteroo I sure wish I still had my original 45 from 1967. Lost it in the 80's when I left it in my Seeburg jukebox when I sold it. Glad to hear it is available for download from itunes.
lsd cant kill you, the lethal dose of lsd is far too grand for anyone to aquire especially now that theres so little of legitimate lsd to go around. Anyone who is afraid to atleast try a psychedelic experiance to me is ignorant and stubborn and brainwashed.
Elizebeth Taylor would be a very influental person, powerful voice in show biz.....no wonder the term "king of pop" was picked up by the media & circulated thru whatever means.
I've got this one in my collection, but it sounds better on youtube(thanks). Anyway back in 1966, 1 of 2 radio stations here (Vancouver canada) didn't play it, thats the 1 reason I picked up on it. It's also got a good uptempled beat and in no way is it encouraging drugs....it's a forgotton classic that I didn't forget!
Thank you for posting this. The year was about 1969 and in Los Angeles one of the radio stations, KHJ, used the first 30 seconds of this song as a commercial stop set bumper, a little sounder piece that they would play sometimes almost like an anti drug PSA public service announcement. SO this song has stuck in my head for 40 years now, kind of like an itch that you can't scratch. But I'm scratching it now. Round round! :)
By all means this is a classic. My lyrics were "A million bright colors explode in your brain, today you're just high, tomorrow insane."

Total genius when it came to making perfect pop singles. No novelty or disguise here, just a brilliant piece of music and topical for its day.
