  • Cool, Mr. T.

  • Thanks! I learned this in 7th grade metal shop, and haven't used it since.... so when I got my Atlas lathe I was in need of this info. Nice job, you are a great teacher!

  • Hi Tubalcain

I love your work. Thanks so much for the help. I am just beginning and find your videos extremely helpful.

Can you do a video on setting up the lathe (i have a small hobby lathe) to do some basic tasks like skimming the side of some bar, parting off etc with a focus on tool setup.

    kind regards

    max

  • Would you address radius sizes? I find that I have a tendency to grind mine too small and the finish isn't very fine, but too large and the lathe chatters.

  • These videos are awesome!!! The large models are fantastic to see what needs to be done!

  • After watching the 1st vid i had a go and it works well. I usually use indexable inserts so most of this is pretty alien to me. But you just carn't make a custom grind we out using hss tool steel. Thanks for your wisdom. Is this the same Tubal Cain who has written in 'model engineer' magazine.

  • Thanks. The tubalcain that wrote the books is from England.

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!

  • Thank you. Now that I know why the angles need to be what they are, maybe I can remember how to do it.

  • I'll bet most viewers fail to recognize the significance of the name "Tubal-cain".

    Excellent choice of name.

Your videos are the most useful metalworking videos I have seen. Thank you for taking the time to make them.

  • That's true, only about 1%.

  • @fooappbar totaly agree

  • Thanks tubalcain,

    You have another subscriber!

    Appreciate all youe effort.

  • Thanks for your support.

  • Thanks MrPete,

Better than a book. Do you realize that you are now the "old machinist" that's teaching us? :-)

    Clem

  • Great stuff, very helpfull to a starter machinist here.

  • Thanks for another great video!

    Keep em coming

  • MrPete// If there is one thing I haven't seen anybody cover its what RPM is good for each metal.. say steel, cast steel, aluminum, brass.. People can't tell in videos just how fast an object is spinning on a Lathe and they think it has to go incredibly fast to do anything with the tool... Sounds like a Video?!?!?

  • Thanks--yes-will do one in the future.

  • Great tools.. But they won't fit in my SouthBend.. lol - loved the wood demo tool shapes and great info.. A+ -Rob

  • Thanks for your interest------and humor.

  • Thanks

  • Another great video!
