Hi Carl, I have a lot of difficulty getting my skew to cut if i hold it the way you do. Is it because the bevel isn't right or just isn't sharp enough? I started turning about 2 years ago and had to teach myself basically everything
how do you sharpen those tools? they look like not all of them are a straight blade. is there some kinda of jig? or special tool you use? or is it easier to get them sharpened by someone else?
Can you do a video on how to use the skew. I have been turning for about a year and a half now and I cant figure out how to use the skew. I usually just avoid the skew because when i use it i get terrible chatter or i get a catch
can you tell me more about the salad bowl oil finish your using? thank you

@OuachitaOutdoorsMan It's a food safe finish. You can find it at most woodworking stores

@nicholls611 It may be the bevel or the way your holding it I'm not sure with out seeing it or watching you turn.

Is poplar wood o.k. to use for a rolling pin? Also what kind of finish should. I use. Mineral oil or olive oil? Thanx for this video it is awesome.

Yes I think Poplar is a great choice. Use a food safe finish of your choice. I use salad bowl oil for my food safe finishes.

I would also be interested in a skew video. I notice you tend to use the skew going right to left and the gouge going from left to right.

I will try work a little piece in on one of the videos.
Thanks,

Yes, there is a jig that I use with my grinder. I have a video up on my channel about sharpening that I think would answer your quetions the best.
